You sound angry kiddo. It must be a sad life to have to say what you really feel from the safety of the internet instead of being a man and applying it to real life. Good thing there are people like you around; it would suck to have to make my own coffee.
The irony of social skills being nerfed and you trolling posts about these changes... Still, that's kinda the point isn't it? Trolls never get irony :-D Not about social skills, trolling MMO players for playing MMOs while being a player themselves, etc, etc... Can you say irony fail? *amused*
I mean how sad and repressed are you to mock people taking their gaming seriously in 2011? You're like the deeply repressed closeted gay person badmouthing gays to everyone else in case anyone should realise *gasp* *shock* *horror* you're gay. Well I'd like to be the first to welcome you to the 21st century where gamers are from all ages, backgrounds and socio-economic groupings, don't feel a puritanical screwed up need to feel ashamed about having a good time, and care about a quality gaming experience (especially given the lack of free time, information overload, and stress in the modern world).
Newsflash - you belong to last century. 1980 is calling you to troll USENET. Run, don't walk and GTFO of our community. -- Frog blast the vent core! |

I enjoy playing video games and I'm certainly not embarrassed about it like you seem to think. The simple fact is, it's just a ****ing game. Seek professional help if a virtual world is that important to you.

would you play a game with many difficult things, complex mechanics and multiple possibilities?
or you want a game with very few things to master, streamlined experience and predictable outcomes.
I loved eve because of complexity it provided to players, a whole new dimensions of technology, socializing, industry. No other games have industry on the same level as eve, nor comparable socializing. EFT killed much of the technology mystery - and Battleclinic's perfect knowledge ruined surprise and superiority effect of setups. Both of them are big spoilers.
I hate games with few options to learn. Example - Baldur's Gates DnD - complex game mechanics, Dweep complex puzzle game. Hack and Slash games, Xbox games - utter crap with 3 function buttons.

I agree with the OP, this change is a step in the wrong direction.
And the aim to make people spread out a bit will fail.
The new mission hubs will be -
0.5 systems away from low sec multiple L4 security agents of the same corp or faction.
So how many systems does that leave?

Why are there distribution agents? They handed out POS PARTS for completing a mission or 50000 antibiotics, etc... Manufacturing agents gave you MANUFACTURED goods to sell on the market! See, there is no landscape memory.... No one remembers the good old days when the divisions meant something...
We used to end up with lots of useless junk in lots of different stations. Part of the reasoning for changing the system was probably lag related.
Did prefer those times to now though, not because it was a better system but because mission rewards are so boring now (isk and useless points).

Maintaining a status quo and developing to the point of over-development is the story of humanity; so much so that it will in the end kill us.
Groupthink was evolutionarily advantageous but it will also contribute to our death as a species.
Nothing new is happening here. I'm surprised you're all surprised, given how erudite you present yourselves.

I don't see a dumbing down. What I see is a move away from the notion of the RP player. WoW did the same thing. The company starts out with a game that caters to the RP type person. I.e. the person that respects the context for things instead of just exploiting the game mechanics and power playing with the best combo of things.
Most video game people could care less about keeping the play within the intent of the developers. So, the developers just start standardizing things and making a more streamlined, straight play through style rather than try, through the game mechanics, to set up a richer environment based on some notion of a backstory or "real world" ideology.
That atmospherically enriching environment means nothing to the majority player base so it gets nurfed to a purer form of game mechanics to put everyone on a more even playing field.
An easier way of explaining it would be to use WoW as an example. WoW started out as a more convoluted game with more process involved in leveling and then end game play. The instances were harder, getting qualified for end game raid dungeons was more involved.
Then by the third expansion WoW has been nerfed down to quick, easy runs through dungeons and pretty easy to get into end game stuff just by "earning points".
Like EVE is becoming, WoW went from a jump through your ass process to log on, play through and log off.
Oh well, I suppose this is why good ole pen and paper D&D type games will continue to exist. That's only way to do it the way you want and get what you want.

Delicious tears from missioners playing it like a job always saying "isk/h" are the one who dumb even more the stuff and thanks to you loot nerfs came and will come.
When you play a few hours p/day or week the system wasn't that bad or that good, was an option to make some isk and some LP's to get shiny stuff for your mission run ship or sustain pvp.
Thanks to those mission "pro's" loot was nerfed now cruiser and even frigate wrecks loot is more valuable than most battleships wrecks. I ran hundreds/thousands of missions for standings always looting salvaging everything with different dedicated ships, my income was far from what I can read but those guys are the guilty ones, they made it a job.
The problem thanks to you, plex/sanctums/incursion runners with your isk/h, your tasty tears and argument isk/h feed CCP for nerfs. The other side of it being that casual players are the most affected ones.

Sorry CCP but the OP is absolutely correct. You are dumbing down your game, and this last patch is a PRIME example. Turning missions into the classical fantasy mmo quest of "go here and kill ten rats" is not the direction this game should go. And whatever happened to that random pirate faction rat or random named in a mish? Not every mission or anything just that 1 in 200 chance one that dropped nice loot, useful loot.
So removing skills and agents that were unique that presented differing tactics to win is bad, granted they were nerfed to almost meaningless. But you could have made the fact that guristas for example, were bad ass with kinetic instead of being like every other faction!!!

Change, in this case, is good. The old system involved much hoopla over the orders of NPCs. The new systems rewards players who work for other players. Things must be produced and hauled, bought and sold, used and replaced. And the wealth earned by joining that virtuous cycle is good, honest, active wealth, earned by the sweat of the digital brow.
Even those bloodthirsty souls in null space, that spend their days in endless destruction, even they have built. Their bridges, their stations and their capitals fill the wasteland, standing testament to the age old desire of humanity to make, to mend and to build.
But the money earned by the missioner's grinding is foul wealth, wasted on frivolity. What have you built that any should listen?

The only thing they forgot was making missions less eye-bleedingly boring and repetitive. I'm a pretty new player and I regret pre-paying even 3 months for the circa 2000 PvE grind system. I should have done more research but it's fine. And yes, I know that there is PvP (and that is the alleged heart of the game). I just don't feel like doing that so I will probably cancel.

You know, there are all sorts of things to do in eve. You don't have to pvp, although it is fun, and you shouldn't submit to the tedium of missioning.
Try building or trading on the market. Both beat the tar out of missioning.
And do at least try pvp before giving up on eve. Red v blue provides reliable fun at an affordable price, and is chock full of polite, friendly folks. I only mention the last bit as I've seen too many unhappy posts from carebears ranting about the horrors of smack talk; I don't mind a little smack, but I suppose it's not fun for everyone.

I wouldn't be too concerned about where people allege æthe heartÆ to be. Everyone considers their favored activity in EVE to be what the game is æreally aboutÆ or where the æreal game lies,Æ when neither the game design nor CCP's statements suggest any such thing. The nullsec folks especially, for some reason.
Everyone wants that extra validation for their tragic waste of time: to know that at least they're wasting it the way it's æmeantÆ to be wasted. Everyone wants to be the One True Scotsman.

Known side effects include irrational fear of change and whining like a little ***** about video games.
Simply stating the OP is a bittervet does nothing to nullify his well-reasoned opinion on why features that were removed from the game have caused some detriment. All it demonstrates is your logical ineptness. If we are to take anything from your statement, itÆs that all change is good, and any opposition to change or desire for features removed to be included once again is ôfear of changeö or being a ôwhiney little *****öà
I pity the world you must perceive yourself to live inàwhere you must be at the whim of everyone in control, fearful of voicing opinion because you might be viewed as a whiney, or fearful. Perhaps youÆve no place asserting such irrationalities within the realm of logical discourse?

Sheeesh, whine and cry about each other in the game.
I have only been playing 2 years but i can tell you this. To me the game gets less interesting with every single "patch". Since Dominion each patch is actually damaging the game and making it....stupid.
CCP, STOP, quit messing it up.
