Edited by: Twizzle on 13/02/2005 02:29:43 Edited by: Twizzle on 13/02/2005 02:16:47 ok, I was told that I can not post the actual stupidity of the CCP GMs..so I will summerize it for you:
I and 3 other people were in AZ, 5-6 PKers came in...no one new showed up in the local chat. I docked to change ships, came out and there they were. I was killed...no questions asked...I sent a msg to my Corp mate to warn him, in the time it took me to type in GET OUT...he was dead...he didn't have a chance to target, or know they were there....even if they BM warped in and were lucky enough to be on top of him....as everyone knows...you will see the person warping in, before they can see and lock you....I wasn't there, so maybe there was a lack of paying attention...who knows...but he never saw them in local either....the first the other person knew of anyone new in the system is when the kill was exclaimed in local chat.
I explained this to CCP for purposes of possible exploit..they explained that there is a know "display problem" that people don't always show up in local. Ok...it's a problem..I can handle that..hopefully they are working on fixing that.
I then asked for replacement of all lost items, since it is a "known problem" as even stated by CCP....they said no...because it was not due to a game related problem.
I reposted what he said..that it is a know problem, and that I feel he is wrong...he then said..it not open for discussion..your not getting anything back.
I asked if the problem was being worked on...I was told..there is no need...
What I gather is..the game is going FULL PK...if your not into PK, then you need to find another game to call home...because they just gave PKers a WORLD or good over any miners, etc.
"Oh no..a market bug...someone might make an isk or two...shut the servers down...now!!"
then you have
"What..you mean if you want to play on a non-PK end of the game, you have to be stuck in secure space? The PKers can come into a system, kill everyone without being seen, and go on. Bah..no need to worry about fixing something like that...It's the players fault for being there."
several of us, from various alliances have discussed what happened....we all feel that something is greatley amiss....has anyone else been in a situation, where 6 PKers enter a system, and 0 out of 3 people there see them for the entire time they are there? Is this something that IS and Eve problem? do people that chose not to PK stand a chance with this going on as a regular activity? I am debating my next months dollars going for an only PK game...how about you all?
Thanks for your input

They said it is a known bug, but they could not confirm it happened to you. And this thread will be locked/edited/deleted for posting conversations with GMs. -------------------------------- CCP can patch away bugs, but they can't patch away stupidity. |

They're going to lock the thread because you can't post private conversations with the GM's here. Delete them and post a "summary" if you like so its not specific.
As for your problem I've used cloaks on occasion and I've noticed I always still show up in local. I have noticed a few times though since Exodus where local seems bugged.

How is a GM supposed to tell the difference between someone who experienced a bug, from someone just trying to get a free ship?

CCP needs to wake up, and realize this is not counterstrike, a bug doenst mean you wait 3mins to restart, it means weeks.
EDIT, my first ? Was a forum bug? Cause his post was blank. Websites got as many bugs as the game.

"Verifiable" to CCP means something like CONCORD blows up your ship, but there is no record of agression. They can verify that.
Since they have no way of telling whether you actually could see ASS on local or not (it's a client bug) they can't "verify" it. In fact even if it were verifiable that you could not see someone on local they still probably would not give back your ship because this in itself did not "cause" the ship to blow up. That's the way they reason.
Logical arguments like "if x were true then obviously y must be true" don't work with them. Their attitude is basically if you don't like it, tough. They think if they started giving back ships there would be a flood of additional petitions so they discourage them by rejecting everything except absolutely provable screwups.
Unbelievable, annoying and totally unfair. The icing on the cake is the patronizing cut-and-paste paragraphs they send you denying your petition.

Favoritism in a way?
or just being proved WRONG?

GMs don't accept screenshots concerning petitions. Bugs, yes. Petitions for losses, no.

The main problem I see here is that they were seeing you in local chat and you weren't. Nobody should appear on local chat unless they talk, it would make this game way more interesting.
I am sorry about your loss, you are one of the very few who dare to go in low security systems and you are punished for this, it is not good at all.

did you try talking to the people who killed you? maybe they have a logical explanation
if there is an exploit, people gotta know how to use it. Once word gets to GMs and they can make sure it works, then you got a real case
else you can try figure it out and use it on others out of revenge, till GMs admit you were right :)

Twizzle - sucks, but then you have to see it from CCP's (and everybody who hasn't had this bugs) point of view. If they accepted your petition wanting a new ship due to bugs, which you HAD NO PROOF OF, then everybody could petition everytime they had a ship destroyed. And GMs aren't trying to 'hide' anything - they don't want you posting conversations because they could be talking about potential exploits. And exploits are not allowed to be talked about on the forums (for obvious reasons...).
Gunsnroses - Nobody is going to boycott a game the majority of us have no problem with because one dumbass lost an apoc to lag, 'k? But if YOU want to boycott it, then fine, go away. ---------------- Haha, stupid monkey! Now I'VE got the Oscar! Enjoy your worthless gun! |

If 100 people quit thats 18,000$ less a year, assuming they dont have alts.
Its not a "few" people with bugs, lag, crashing.

Edited by: Nemo Maximillion on 13/02/2005 06:24:25 Knowing that CCP must go through alot of #%$$@# and has to sift through the dross for the real problems as mentioned before in this thread how can we help them debug things? If things like this must be substantiated, how can this be done? I am not very much a computer wiz kid, but if screenies can be doctored, and some problems don't show in the logs, what is left? If there is something I am not thinking or using for my corp, then someone please educate me. I had a corp mate loose a BS to the non-respnsive gate jump thing, at that time I told them to relax settle down its just a game and CCP can't catch everything. In anger he cancelled his second account but kept his main. I like this game and the people in it too much to loose it to a "simple" issue of not being able to prove an event happened. that's my two isk worth, how can we "proof" these events? what is acceptable. Once we know, then next time will be ready, luckily Twizzle was not on an important mission.
Nemo
p.s. According to Twizzle, he was ambushed wiht no time to be negligent. So if he had an escort, the escort would have been in the same trouble as he... the attack was that sudden and swift with no hints on local or whatever. With that said, if that is how it is suppose to be, then we will modify our efforts.

It was lag. You said you watched your ship explode AFTER it warped out from your alt's perspective, as your main character had CTDed. How would you even see it explode if it had warped out!? It sounds like a classic example of lag to me.
And 100 people aren't boycotting the game. You and your dumbass corp is, and good riddance, frankly.

Just because you can't prove something doesn't mean they can't fix the bugs. You only need to prove something if you want your stuff back, otherwise you can just file a bug report without ANY real proof (although an example of how to reproduce the bug is pretty helpful). ---------------- Haha, stupid monkey! I said IF a 100 people did. WTF ARE YOU THAT FUGIN BLIND?
You need banned for your simple ignorance.
I crashed, that was the main cause of my death, Any lag that may have happened afterwards, was not the direct result of my death because the lag affected character wasnt even logged on.
Use your brain, I knows its a new concept, but its needed to survive in this world.

No one has stated the obvious that you were probably attacked by pros who were in system and ontop of you before you happened to glance at local. I have done this countless times never because of a bug. Also just before exodus local was bugged constantly. I was often seeing yulai local in deep 0.0. Since exodus i havnt seen any local bugs at all. ______________

Just noticed this tidbit, when you are in unsecure space by definition you ARE on the PVP server. You consent to pvp by crossing into a .4 its as simple as that. If you dont like this dont go there.
If it is a bug then it is unpredictable and woudl not give pirates as a whole any significant statistical advantage in the game.
But more than likely you were not paying attention. ______________
