Loved getting paid to talk with people about games, but GameStop has some messed up policy (what job doesn't); although maybe it has changed, been like 6 years since I worked there. Once I got my reals career didn't need a second job anymore. James315 for CSM 8! |

Wouldn't compare it to a minimum wage job. However there are more people wanting to work in the game industry than they have positions for so you end up with employee's who will work on the cheap. Making the atmosphere all the more unpleasant. Couple that with it being a niche game with comparatively low numbers and I'm sure it's even more of a stressful environment.

Once I got my reals career didn't need a second job anymore. I worked for a small video game shop called "Games 2 Go" that did the whole new and used game thing but also specialized in hard to find systems (Neo Geo, 3DO, TurboGrafix 16, Magnavox Odyssey, Philips CD-i, etc) and imports. The job itself was great, probably one of the best jobs I ever had since I got to sit around all day listening to stoner music and playing all these rare import games and stuff my friends didn't even know existed. The bad part was that 95% of the people who came in were looking for the same old crap they could buy at the local department store, and they expected us to somehow carry it for less than those stores would. So between that and the kids who would come in and try to rip off stuff they would have had no way of even using (I remember one kid tried to make off with a Mega Drive system which he wouldn't have even been able to power up let alone find a PAL monitor to play it on) the shop eventually closed. That sounds like it would have been a blast. I used to go through phases where I would collect old games and systems; build up a nice little collection, then need cash and sell it all...lol...your store sounds like it would have been my heaven. Now that I make enough I wouldn't have to sell my collection, I'm not as interested in collecting games anymore...funny how that works out... James315 for CSM 8! |

Then why the hell did you bother posting here? Don't look for threads you have on interest in just to post you don't care. Nothing better to do with your time?
OT: I've read a lot of the things on that site a while ago, seems they just get reuploaded to seem more recent lol. |

After reading a lot of those it's clear that most of the issues aside from the obvious poor management is that publishers have far to much say/power over what gets done. I mean sure these developers need to get the funding from somewhere but... at what cost? Lazier development, no new ideas, gaming is getting kind of stale (on consoles anyway) |

Whaaaat? It's nothing like that at all. The real problem is finding qualified candidates to fill the positions we have open. The atmosphere is generally fun and upbeat - much more so than other industries that I've worked in.

Stopped takin it seriously right there... How so? Have you considered... I dunno... perhaps... maybe, just maybe that this issue should be addressed at it's source rather than at it's symptoms? Tackling the problems rather than exacerbating them? Just a thought.... look into it. |

Hmm. Try animation or programming. There are a lot of positions, some skills in over abundance, but there are still some fields that are in demand and pay well. Often the sourced employee is relocating, so you are not going to just be able to pay minimum wage for skilled/trained employees, otherwise they stay at home and freelance onto various projects.

10 out of 10 for pointing out the obvious. Now, for your next trick, tell me again how to get a refund on subs already paid before CCP's staff began their campaign of hatred against certain individuals.
And for the trick after that, tell me how to get CCP to create an Internal Affairs department as opposed to merely telling us they have one. |

This is ancient history and almost necro dragging this up again.
It reads mostly like whines from disgruntled ex-employees, but I suspect that the 'must speak Icelandic to get anywhere' has a core of truth, or least it used to be before they became more international. As I am horrible with foreign languages and Icelandic looks insanely hard to learn this might be a problem, especially if you want to work in Reykjavik. FIRE FRIENDSHIP TORPEDOES ! Any review site tends to be generally biased toward the negative side of things.
This is due to the fact that people who have no issues, are generally happy with their job, and are having a good time, tend to be getting on with their lives and having fun, and don't feel the need to poast about it anywhere else other than describing how awesome of a week they've had on places like facebook.
On the flip side of the coin, those who're disgruntled are more likely to want to make noise and have their bad feelings aired on professional sites to feel some kind of vindication.
I've been lucky enough over the years to meet a crapload of CCP's guys and girls at various events and have had the pleasure of visiting their offices in both Reykjavik and Atlanta.
All I've seen is awesome people and awesome working environments, so I'm calling butthurt on most, if not all of the reviews tbh.
