What is the magic formula? Please share \o/ !!!
What are the connections between game-time / skill training and the margins available in tech 2 production in a high sec npc station?
As it stands, I'm starting to view t2 manufacturing as a boat on fire in frigid water.

You would have to be a tad bit more specific about your exact complaints. Is it invention profitability ? Is it T2 manufacture profitability from contract-purchased BPCs ? Is it the price of the materials ? What ?

There's no magic formula, just find your balance
Edit: Oh, and it helps if you build at POS instead of stations.

I was being vague in an attempt not to vent too much frustration.
As it stands I haul at least 30 jumps on a day that produces a seemingly-worthwhile stock and margin, however it is becoming more than I can stomach. Afk-ing is not an option as the value of each haul has gotten too large and would be a crushing loss.
Invention/Manufacturing ratios are working out ok, as once I have a large stock of quickies I throw in a profitable(Really couldn't I just do one L4?) tech 2 small haul.
Upstart costs have been very depressing, along w/ all the aforementioned hauling. I have 6 science specifics on the main manufacturing character (not including the two ship racials) and their respecitve ship data interfaces. Also, Advanced MP/Lab Operations, and Supply Chain management/Scientific Networking. I need to accept that this is the price I have accepted for quick logins for updating queues as well as not narrowing my production options' variety too much. Granted, to some extent I have been at the mercy of the Tech 1 BPC contract-market. It's been give and take.
I have about 1/2 of my assets in liquid at the moment, excluding a small POS sitting in my hangar waiting for me to do a standings grind to anchor.
That's my setup in a nutshell. I've attempted to diversify, automate, and be smart about what T1 BPCs are a worthwhile purchase. How effective I've been at each of these I am doubting.
Balance...must find balance.

So, in other words, you find that the reward is not large enough for the effort you put in ? Yet you still continue doing it anyway ? And you don't wonder how many other people do pretty much the same thing you do ? Or how that translates into each individual's profit ?

I do wonder.

"profit" or "profit per hour of research (in RL/ingame) and per hour of clickedy-click-clicking"

Edited by: Brooks Puuntai on 25/05/2011 06:49:10 With t2 production it scales alot with how much effort you put into it. Running 1 account doing everything you shouldn't expect to be rolling in isk and will make it seem like a chore. Also the more you try and save costs the better. Meaning using assembly arrays to build the t2 components, t1 ships, etc. The hauling is a pain at times but its a necessary evil.
So choosing your POS location in relation to where you plan on buying/selling your goods is key to reduce logistics. Also finding a good system with decent amount of build slots is good to for actually building the t2 items. Sometimes its not always best to look for THE BEST margin when it comes to where you sell, due to increased logistics and slow turnover.
edit: it kind of seems like you are getting ahead of yourself if you are just starting out. If you are planning on diving in headfirst you want a decent amount saved up prior.

If your issue is production slots (character based) then just make some new accounts for production. I can handle about 170 mfgr / lab slots... But if I get reallllly into doing r&d/production I still run out. The balance moves towards you paying for spare accounts, but they are obviously nice to have when required ;).
Not bad for killing a station for a few months to grief someone either :/. ----------- Never Forget the joy of finding a main to link to a scammer alt. N-y-p-h-u-r ! ! |

@Brooks
Thanks for the suggestions. A second production character is in the works. As it stands I am 5 jumps from a major hub on a dead-end sector of a constellation, so available NPC production slots isn't a critical issue to me (save for the weekends), but build times tend to be suffocating. I will look into the placing of my POS in a system that takes into account your comments.
I do have a portion of isk equal to the materials I've accrued to inject into my R&D/manufacturing, so I will work towards integrating it w/o hindering any other Eve activities. Just means a lot of the necessary evil.

Edited by: Mnengli Noiliffe on 25/05/2011 18:02:49 I'm afraid you can't go on with only npc stations since you need huge load of BPC to keep manufacturing slots busy... unless of course you know a place where there are free copy slots in the npc stations.

Out of curiosity I am an inventor. Period.
I hate the manufacturing portion.
Can this be sustained long term to sell my bpcs? I managed to dump my final supply before doing some "reogue" work at reasonable prices eariler. I mainly invent drone II bpcs.

Well, the inventing part of a T2 job is the easier part. Anyone who has the skills to manufacture a T2 item also has the skills to invent it.
The inventing part is also much quicker than the manufacturing part of a job. I usually spend a weekend inventing and get all the BPCs I'll need for a month.
So good luck, but I don't think there will be a steady demand for invented BPCs on contracts--especially not for small items like drones or ammo.

Eve is a flawed crafting game because there is no value added profit. T1 items have almost no profit margin on production and the only people making isk from them are buildings 1000s of items at a time. T2 is getting closer and closer to that as more and more people get the resources to make them. Basically the grown up version "derp, I mined it so its free".
In the end Level 4s are the easiest isk in the game when calculating out risk/reward and effort. Station trading is up there too, but it can be tedious.
