Originally by: Mara Rinn In my case, you've got less than a month to increase performance of CQ by around 500% and make it work on Mac OS X - or alternately, make CQ optional. If you can't get that much more performance out of CQ on low settings with shadows off, shaders low, textures low, low quality character models, yadda yadda, I won't be able to play the game - not even for the purpose of logging in to change skills.
+1
This is a real worry, CCP, and you need to address it. We've seen you leave this testing until the last week, meaning no actual testing takes place and you release a patch that does not work. ùùù ôIf you're not willing to fight for what you have in ≡v≡à you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.ö ù Karath Piki |

Originally by: Vult How many of you have actually tested Duality? Those of you that have tested it, yes, it sucks. It's also in an extreme beta phase.
It has a long way to go before it playable. Only 1/4 of the stations will have CQ, and that quarter that has quarters will have missing textures - assuming you can wait the five minutes for CQ to load.
Quote: Those of you who haven't tested it on Duality, either go test it, or stop passing judgement until it's finally released. Then, give me your stuff.
Until CCP releases a playable version on Duality, we have to assume that what will be released in June will be just as slow and broken. Remember their history for fixing bugs reported on Singularity before releasing the new version to Tranquility?
What makes you think they've got some magic build of CQ that will magically work when it hits Tranquility?
I've already cancelled my account. Now I'm in the process of gathering up a few PLEXes to reverse redeem in the hope that CQ will actually become playable on the kinds of computers I'll be buying when my current ones fall apart.
You already have my stuff, I've already been giving it away at a billion ISK a month for the last four years.

I'll buy whichever model suits my previous needs that happens to have the "best" graphics option at the time.
I want to play "Sims in space". It will provide a different atmosphere to flying spaceships around all the time. I'm happy to wait until my current computer falls apart and needs to be replaced, at which point I'll be buying whatever the contemporary top-of-line equivalent is.

Originally by: Dev Blog When you dock your ship, your Captain's Quarters will replace the current hangar view with a multifunctional room from which you can perform all the actions you previously could in the hangar view as well as manage your planetary infrastructures, explore new opportunities with a redesigned agent finder, use the corporation recruitment interface to find new allegiances, and watch streaming data, fed live from the vibrant universe of EVE.
So effectively what we're currently getting is an entirely new interface for the things we want to do in station (and a couple of others like PI), but very little new gameplay options at all.

I for one, welcome anything which brings new features/options to EVE Online. I even support Planetary Interaction, even though I personally can't stand to use it, because it gives more things for other players to do. And if they're happy, that means more retained players. Captain's Quarters and the following Incarna features have a lot of...potential. The only thing which gives me pause is that CQ in it's stated release iteration will bring no new real functionality. Everything you can do in CQ, you can already do with the Neocom, and will still be able to do, without touching anything in the CQ. Give us players some new Incarna/CQ-only features through which we can make ISKies, affect gameplay, interact with others, etc...and then we'll be (mostly) a happy lot. |

Please at least say they're using system resources not related to space-based activities. I don't want to be lagging out and find I'm the only one outside the station. |

Don't worry, good stuff will come later. They just need to sort out the client, learn how to build their 3D environment, sort out character interaction and having more than one avatar on screen at once. This will be an iterative process, but some of the things they've slated so far include in-station amusements such as strategy games which you can bet on.
Good stuff coming, for those whose computers will let them play EVE past June 21 :)

#1. Super excited about Incarna, bring it on. #2. Please port over the clothing options from the old character creator. There were some really unique racial garments that I liked, new options are nice but more generic. I'm fine with Microtransactions for these, just do it. #3. As to making it optional or not, I don't care, but how about you add such cool stuff to CQ that people WANT to use it? I'd say a viewing window on the undock when you're station camped would be a nice enticement.

I am looking forward to this release and what it can be in the future. That is where i have a problem... These graphics are nice but it will be a LONG time before it turns into something actually fun. I had visions of docking up in a mission and going in guns blazing to rescue someone, etc. Not gonna happen for years yet when there are other graphics engines that could do it now! Look at Portal 2, it is beautiful. Something like that could be used just as well. I still see the opportunity for another game company to do something great in this field (Traveller MMO anyone?).

Reading all those comments ive been thinking... ...maybe CQ will not be such a "slow down" to fps as everyone expects...
Well we already got 3d station interiors in which something is happening all the time and your ship sits in the middle...
So maybe in CQ instead of station interior and your ship you will have CQ interior and your avatar ( which you can spin like ship hopefully )in the middle and you can leave everything be and do your thing or explore CQ if you want...
So they are practicaly replacing one 3d interior (station) with a 3d model (ship) with another 3d interior (CQ) with a 3d model (you)...no biggie as it seems to me...
Also to add... I have
AMD Athlon socket 939 @ 1.8 ghz 2gb ram and an agp (yes...agp mind you) Geforce 7600 (yup i cant even buy new graphic card, there is not anymore on the market the type that fits :P )
That system configuration evaluations (in control panel/system) in win 7 are: Processor : 3.5 RAM : 4.7 Graphics : 5.8 Gaming Graphics : 5.2 Hard drive : 5.2 Final score : 3.5 *(i nave localized win7 so i translated those lines freely how i think they sound in english version , i hope its clear what i want to show )
I play eve on high shader setting and all details on medium...
Character creator was ok in first phase, and started to be jittery when i was adjusting lights and pose in the end. (but that could be partly because dreamweaver, mozzila, adobe reader (with a few books opened) and a winamp (which i have on constantly) were in the background...)
Well the good part is that i live in wh so mostly not much things on my grid..etc...but when it gets laggy i just lower the shader setting...and its ok I can even dualbox some some simple tasks...
Either i am a magician at setting up my OS and all the drivers and keep hardware-software communication at its finest and all that...or many people here are overreacting...
... a bit

There are plenty of performance focused products out there that are also focused at noise reduction. It's a pretty common focus these days, since we all hate epic load GPU fans.
My 460's in SLI can only be heard when they hit full load, usually when I decide that taking a single 5760x1080 client to war is an epic idea. (Which it is, but sweet jesus does it make me dizzy some times.) ----- Cheesecake, Natures ultimate weapon. |

Hm, I somehow don't get what this blog is about. Telling us again whats already on duality ?
I'm really looking forward for walking on station, minigames, sitting in a bar with the FC that killed you 20 min ago and stuff, BUT a QC single-player environment... I see very limited use for it. If we could invite other players, okay. Hold up a meeting ingame would be cool. Maybe even make sense. But if your alone in there. Just checke everything out once, the wait for the next "expansion" that you can do MMO-stuff in there ?
I really hope CCP gets some more then beeing alone in Station till the release. Maybe give us a timeline when you start testing what party of Incarna on sisi/dual ?

Originally by: CCP Guard Loading times on Duality are not at all representative of the finished product as we've stated before. Duality has been running a very early test version and we've done very little optimization yet.
Is there a performance metric for achieving a playable state? Is CCP committed to not releasing to production a client that fails to meet this criteria?
I have seen games release clients before achieving a lag-free playable state and have seen a significant fraction of the player base simply walk away. The character creator was released in what I considered to be an unplayable state. I am concerned about the damage that would result if the same happened with the captain's quasters.

WHOOOOOOO!!!! I have been waiting for this for ever!!! Anyways, my system can definitely handle loading the person-full-body-outsidy-walky bit. But I completely understand that others cannot. For this little conundrum -- why not make an option to not load the full-body-outsidy-walky bit at all? And just keep the old system in. Or maybe, re-do some kind of low resource U.I. (the old side bars are still there, so i know the backbone systems hasn't changed much, it shouldn't be to difficult?)
Annnnyyywayyyss, I have been on duality, it is pree good, runs quite smooth on my system. My only request: could we get an option for a first person view not an over-the-shoulder cam?
Good job CCP!

Preface: I am not afraid of change. I have been looking forward to Incarna ever since it was first mentioned, before it even became known as WIS or Ambulation. What I am afraid of is a loss of immersion, which would be tragic as an effect of an expansion meant to increase immersion, and the high likelihood (at this point) that CQ will not live up to its potential simply because CCP is being stubborn and blinded by their excitement.
Originally by: Logan LaMort For once CCP, stop guessing at what people want and actually make some options available for users.
Originally by: Ciar Meara The thing that disturbs me most is the big "undock" button on the gantry. What is that supposed to do? From the video's shown so far we have some sort of "unpod" chamber. That is where we should have to go to interact with ships and pod. The gantry should be eyecandy for shipspinning (and perhaps later a lookout over the stationsactivities?).
Originally by: Mirabi Tiane
Originally by: Fix Lag There was one thing people asked to not have with Captain's Quarters, and that was being forced to use it instead of the hangar screen.
So of course it's going to replace the hangar screen.
YOU WERE DOING IT RIGHT.
NOW YOU ARE DOING IT WRONG.
I put it in nice big letters so you can't say you weren't told.
Quoted for justice. A capsuleer doesn't eject their pod from their ship and get out of their pod every time they dock. Some capsuleers probably stay in their pods 99% of the time. The following options MUST be implemented: [ ] Always show hangar when docking. [ ] Always show quarters when docking. [ ] Prompt to choose between hangar and quarters.

Originally by: Dyniss Geeze guys its not terribly expensive to upgrade a pc
Shouldn't have to upgrade the computer when it is already adequate to play Internet Spaceships. My upgrade cycle is three to five years (three years for laptops, five years for desktops).
I haven't used a discrete component PC since before World of Warcraft was released. It's been iMacs and laptops since then. These machines have been adequate for the tasks at hand, without breaking the budget, and without creating excessive noise, leaving piles of cables lying around the place, or taking up floor or desk space.
Your priorities are clearly different to mine. CCP is now telling me that their priorities are different to mine. I'd like them to reconsider. All I need is CQ to be optional: i.e.: we dock the same as we currently do, and choose to enter CQ when we feel like playing Sims In Space.
Until EVE becomes playable on the computer I have in front of me, I'll be finding some other game to spend my time on. It's really that simple.
Quote: AMD Phenom II x4 965BE 3.4ghz Newegg price $140 ASUS motherboard Newegg price $95 8gig of Gskill ram Newegg price $95 Coolermaster HAF tower Newegg price $150 ASUS geforce gtx 570 dcII Newegg price $350
Windows 7 Home Premium $299 700W Power Supply $90
Not bad for $1000+. If I spent the weekend futzing around with it, I'm sure I could get all the vibrations minimised and figure out how to have the fans only turn on when extra cooling is needed. Then I just have to find somewhere to put a tower case that isn't going to interfere with walking past, sitting at, or working on my desk :)
Then there's convincing the other half that I actually need to spend $1000 on my game when there's repairs I need to do to the car, garden beds to be sorted out, paving to be done, and new clothes to be bought.
