What has happened to the price of platinum? Has it suddenly become less desirable for some reason?
Invested in it while it was selling at 4000 isk per unit... it's now going for just over 2000. We are taking down the POS now as the profit margin is so low that it's not worth the effort :(
Any reason it might go back up soon?

Highly unlikely - unless all of a sudden Neodymium decides to spike heavily in price while Technetium maintains or even goes down in price. Most likely platinum price trajectory - downwards. At least for the near future. _

I'm very interested in putting up a POS at a platinum moon. If anyone is getting rid of their POS at a platinum moon, please let me know and I'd appreciate it.

Akita, can you explain this, or better yet, point me towards a resource that I could educate myself with?

EVE mail me. If the offer is good we may sell our moon. Very close to hisec.

Platinum is used in Neodymium-replacement alchemy and in reactions with Techentium to form Platinum Technite. It's also used in Ferrogel and Sylramic Fibers (via Hexite, with Chromium), but those are not experiencing any sufficiently heavy price shifts, and in Amarr racial components (via Tungsten Carbide, and Tungsten is not exactly scarce), but it's not like Amarr-flavoured T2 stuff will be seeing any sudden increases any time soon, so unlikely to see any price shifts because of that either.
So basically, the two big things that are most likely to influence Platinum price are Neodymium and Technetium prices.
If Neodymium prices would rise, there would start being a demand for Platinum alchemy, but since the fuel costs make the reaction not attractive (and fuel prices are unlikely to drop a lot, but you never know) at the time, Neodymium would have to raise up quite a bit before that starts happening... and for Neodymium to go up, Technetium would also need to stop going up and something else needs to go down. If Technetium prices go up, they tend to "suck out" value from Platinum first before any other moon material (barring any other changes in build ratios, that is), so as long as Technetium keeps going up, there's very little chance either Neodymium or Platinum would get a ramp-up in price. _

What's the point with Neodymium prices in conjunction with Tech?
Couldn't the current Neodymium price drop just be the caused by the current missing nanotransistor reaction lines due to NC vs. DRF conflict? A lot of Tech is thrown on the market without beeing reactes as usual. Maybe Neodymium could go up in price again when the conflict settles and reactions are running in full swing. What do you think?

I think that the Neodymium price bulge was most likely a very big but failed manipulation attempt (or, depending on how it went for the manipulator, it might have been a success for him), and if that is correct, then the current price level is the stable one, the "price drop" being merely the correction to natural levels. _
