I just wondered. Game will be more interesting if we only can see a char with name and current corp without the information about when that char created and what is his/her corporation history. So anyone know why it is useful for these informations to be public?

imo because in EVE your reputation and what you have done in the past and who you flew with actually means something.

Just a personal opinion here, but in EVE your character's reputation is arguably worth more than any other "currency." And your employment history is partial proof of your identity and your history - key contributors to your reputation.

Its ok, but why I can't choose who I want to show my "employment papers(history)". For example when I roaming, I don't like everybody knows im a new char or things like that, but when I wanna apply for a corp, I would show them my employment history tab. Sory for bad english.

If that's true, why have you removed the ability to see the NPC corporation standings of other players?
My corporation requires every member to have either 8.00+ or null standings with Roden Shipyards so that every member of the corporation can use their stations to jump clone. So to be brutally frank, right now, I would honestly care more about whether my prospective member had good Roden Shipyards standings than whether he'd once been in GHSC. ----- Andreus Ixiris CEO, Mixed Metaphor

Maybe before character transfers became so common.
The only reputation that matters is through people who actually know you personally or have heard of you. Is someone like Chribba well known because of their employment history?

standings are still included in the API - if you don't require a limited API key off your applicants you're doing it wrong anyways...

What's good for the standings is good for employment history.
Remove it and allow people to see it only via API.
If its such a big deal make a Eveboard page
It allows "creepy stalking"
It slows down the servers by a pico-second.
All these were stated reasons for removing standings ... they all equally apply to employment history, character age, etc. But then CCP was never known for any sort of consistency.

Agreed.
Standings are also a key contributor to your reputation. Or rather, they used to be...

this isn't serious a solution, to minimize the game, and check the standings with out of eve program. lets shard eve into smaller programs just because we have the api thing which works once an hour
hey lets call it eve offline.
how many times you check your market transactions via api? hey every time you want to undock or make a gang, put an option to do it via the api ****, and fruck it remove the fleet options from ingame, you would do that only via api, with random programs that a dude makes in his shed

Well, if you have a screwed up history, you shouldn't be able to get rid of it as easily as just selling the char. And anyone who buys a char with a screwed up history learned a valuable lesson about reputations and being scammed in eve ----------------------------------------------- I don't post on an alt, I post on my forum main! |

Nice strawman ... maybe go back and reread .. its about having employment history not being public .. not removed from the game.

Im not sure this is true anymore to be honest - money talks in eve - regardless of reputation. I think the reputation bit is no longer viable, as even trusted people scam and cheat their own! We have seen this many times over!
I dont understand eve sometimes, its openly allows and promotes scamming and untrustworthyness, infact eve if you want is full of low lifes and scum (sorry but true) but then tries to say rep is important - Que?
The use of alts and various accounts just means anyone can cover themselves. People can buy chars etc etc, so you end up being someone else anyway
Personally I think employment history is not required not viable anymore and should be just removed.

The only REAL explanation I can think of in the "standings vs employment" debate is that (for whatever technical reason) pulling up standings put strain on the HW, employment history does not.
I noticed that whenever I looked at someone's standings, there would be a 1-3sec delay getting the info. Employment history always popped straight up. My understanding is that certain large scale battle tactics included everyone in fleet pulling up standings of various pilots to induce lag.
Of course, that last bit could be tinhattery, but the delay I always experienced pulling up standings occurred.

How would you know before recruiting him?
Currently the only way to find out is when your standings drop after a week (or five days?) of accepting him.

You can obtain standing information from the api.

He never said personal reputation was irrelevant. Also, when you buy a character, you aren't just buying skills. Smart people would know that they need to check the whole package, including employment history. It's part of the choice you make, as was already said. It's your choice to do the research or not, and to buy a character with a history most of the game won't like.

Still not an argument for why it should be available in the game, instead of via API only. Buying a char, ask for api, eveboard, etc.
In the standings bruhaha thread, there were some laughable arguments that being able to see standings was immersion breaking. If that's true then a whole lotta other information would qualify as immersion breaking.
I think the biggest problem is employment history gives you the age of the character immediately. I can immediately make an SP estimate. Now that's some intel.

Mission runners don't seem to be understanding how much they are shooting themselves in the foot by wanting to remove employment records. Here's the gist of it, griefers can freely join mission running corps and LOL everybody and join new corps without issue.
