Having trawled through all (currently) 31 pages of posts on this forum I have to say I'm quite disgusted by CCP's lack of contact with players about the issues they feel they must resolve by extending extended downtime.
Didn't CCP promise more contact and information or am I dreaming?

Since last patch, people that don¦t put in long time skills at patch days get a fake extended downtime - you won¦t be able to play until tomorrow 1500 while all the others (that were clever enough to put in long timers) are online.
Also you will lose 3m skill points if you don¦t learn it till next patch.

It was more than just hot, it was industrial grade scolding hot. McDonalds was told to reduce the temp of coffee 3 times due to serious burns prior to this incident and they actually made it hotter. This stuff was hot enough for the worst burns in under .5 seconds and was not safe for any sort of human consumption.
Also the lid was not properly placed on the cup to keep the coffee contained. This case has multiple incidences of neglect on the part of McDonald's. What isn't reported is the damages were reduced later on on a settlement in the case.
Whilst nobody can prove it either way, the general concensus is that McD's were microwaving the coffee to reheat it if it had been left standing in the pot for too long. Microwaving liquids can cause bubbles of super heated gas to form contained by the pressure. It's the reason your microwave has a turn table, it avoids this problem. But once you disturb the liquid the bubbles in the liquid all their trapped heat is released and the liquid explodes. In essence the now 100+ degree C liquid spills itself.
But yes McD's have been fined and warned several times about this. This womans case has stayed in peoples minds because of where the burns were and is often used, wrongly, as an example of the publics stupidity.
The compensation was indeed downgraded at a later hearing.
Well, I sort of agree. I mean anyone who put's a beverage in their lap between their legs deserves everything they get. That's why they made cup holders in cars, it wasn't just for spare change.

CCP's QA is crap. Why is this issue discovered AFTER the patch release? If you are not ready for a patch then leave it on your test servers until you are sure everything works fine. The bugs you need to fix during the downtime are the ones you cannot produce without a number of players, not the one from your test cases before the server is even avaliable to public. If every shyt happens on the live server then what's the point of your test server anyways?
maybe because there are no starbases on the test server..

No. It means that POS guns were blazing away on blues, their own tower, other modules or indeed had grown thrusters and started exploring the solar system.

patch day order of operations:
1. Check server, if more then 1 schedule update spend day doing other things.
2. watch tv, play world of tanks, go to sleep.
3. wake up, have breakfast some where fancy.
4. check servers, play if up, if not up, resume tv or other outlet until up.

God, get an F'n grip folks. CCP's come a LOOOOONG way from their previous Patch-Time Fopahs (DAYS vs an extra 2hrs).
These are the days of "instant gratification", if something is not provided when and where people want it, all hell breaks loose. It's almost as if these people have never experienced this in a real world situation....I'll just stop there on that point.
There are 2 test servers if you are biting your nails until they bleed because you don't have your EvE fix, or you missed out on a few million ISK (We all miss out on ISK, so that point is irrelevant). SP isn't even worth complaining about. If you are so thick you can't think ahead to train a long skill but still blame CCP for it....
I could really drone on for hours about the upbringing of this new generation we have, it's really quite sickening. I have a complaint as well; too many places in the world don't allow for legal beating of children, and thus we have spoiled little ****s running around like the world should revolve completely around them. (Among other things, but a good beating used to solve all problems)

Well I have learned that IT is not as serious as you would want - especially when proposing Timelines ...
95% of a project take 5% of time - the remaining 5% of project take MORE THAN 95% of time planned ...
But could CCP not start their working day a bit earlier ... 10 AM ? come on .. you know patching takes ages .. start at 5 AM .... so you have way more time left of the day to fix issues before entire Europe gets back from work and school and tries to play EVE ^^
but .. all ends well if the patch fixes the issues you brought with the last patches
so I hope for the best results

<Clicks BAN! button>
Smart people still load long skills before EVE upgrades on assumption that CCP will have some issues. Just feel fortuante taht modern CCP patching troubles are measured in a few hours or less than 50% over schedule. There were times in distant past when CCP overtime was measured in half days or more.
Heh it still does not hurt to put a skill with at least 3 to 7 days before completion on the end of your queue -- just in case of disaster. No one says you have finish that skill if EVE comes up sooner. At least your queue had something that will be useful in the future.

LOL, Downtime extended due to "patch issues"? No surprise there. Anyone who didn't set a long skill train hasn't learned yet. Hopefully they give out skill point credit for you like they've done lately when they remove a skill from the game.

Dude, don't put your cup between your legs for two reasons, first, if it's cold, your junk get's cold and your beverage get's warm. Second, if your beverage is hot, the possibility of spillage and melted wedding tackle abounds.
