"Docking request... accepted."
My question is this - why is there sometimes a substantial delay between these two events? Sometimes 10-15+ seconds after the request before I actually get accepted.
It doesn't seem consistent.

Probably because the server isn't ready to accept your docking request. Why would you even have to make docking requests if they're going to get immediately accepted anyway? Might as well just say "docking."

Sometimes your ship needs to get a little closer to dock, not sure why tho Signature removed due to the excess of awesomeness, my lord. |

Scotty, the docking master, is sometimes on a bio brake. Give a brake for the poor man

Warp to zero never warps you to zero.

That 10-15 sec delay can be deadly especially if you are running from someone. That "inconsistency" is a bug up my butt as I dont know if I can dock in time.

"Docking permission requested." "Docking request... denied." "You are an enemy of the state." *pop*

Because the real docking radius of a station is 200m. When you warp to zero, sometimes you can come out over 2000m away. And yes, it's deadly in slowass ships in a huge camp situation.. but in those, why are you warping to the station anyways? You request permission as soon as you are on grid, but you aren't "docking" til you're within 200m.

you have to be within 500m of the station to dock. Warps can be up to 2500m accuracy. If you want perfectly fast docking in a station every single time, get a bookmark within the station's docking radius, instead of warping to the edge at 0m.

It's about session change timers...if you just had a session change, you have to wait 30 seconds before making another (IIRC). ~Gnosis~ |

fly covops, you get very aware of how far off a jump can be on a regular basis my favorite is not getting close enough to dock up or drop cloak so you get
"you can't dock while cloaked"
it also happens on gates warp to zero will get you 2009m off the gate so you don't drop your cloak and cant jump sitting there in a camp spamming the jump button as you coast in at 3m/s to the 2k mark
"You fail to jump because you are cloaked" "You fail to jump because you are cloaked" "You fail to jump because you are cloaked" "You fail to jump because you are cloaked" <boosh>

That depends on the station.

well, 500m of the docking radius of the station (as shown on the overview.) I've seen station models that have 20km of empty space that are all 0m. Was pretty sure it's always 500m, but I haven't tested it on every station model, so I accept that I could be wrong (could even be the 300m or whatever posted above... the point is that a warp to 0m does not always warp you to within docking range, but a bookmark at less than 0m would, if it really bothers people that much.)
