They will eventually remodel all the ships they said, it's all in process.

They just said that's their plan. No idea when though.

They said in future expansions when the first one was released, at the pace they have until now, we are probably getting them along the current century.

ignore poster above me, they rushed the maller and the punisher out for the alliance tourny prizes.
They aren't remodeling all the ship they are HDing them. check out the punisher more, it looks a lot better.

Actually the new Scorpion looks nothing like the old Scorpion... with the exception of the tail. I'd say the same with the Maller, sure it's roughly the same 'feel' but the new one looks a lot different in terms of the wings.
So it's not just sprucing up the textures.
OTOH I do remember CCP saying that it was ships that were otherwise quite naff looking that were getting done first. Well... the Maller looked fine. The intergalactic bog roll holder (aka Typhoon) should have been next in the queue I'd have thought.

that's not what I said at all. They are modeling some ships, they are chaing the texture pathing of the rest.
That was the whole point of trinity, to make 2-4 million poly versions of all the ships. Thus you can go back, retouch the low poly, and increase the normal projection of the high poly.
The maller and srcopian are exceptions to the overall project. As in they said they would remodel any ships that they deems not up to par with the art direction.

Hey now, I generally am not a fan of any of the Minmatar ships but I have to say the Phoon is the one that just screams MINMATAR!!!! It really looks as if they sc****d up a bunch of super glue, duct tape, chewing gum, silly putty and anything else sticky and then started rolling the gooey wad through a salvage yard with a dozer and WALLA the mighty TYPHOON was born.
Well after they went inside and hollowed out the spaces for engines and what not at least.

I'd also swear the crank on the Punisher's wings was different and it too had different notches & what not cut in to them. Again, not just a texture tightening exercise from what I saw.
I'm sorry but the phrase HDing has conetations of them simply making the textures 'pop' (MOAR SHARPEN FILTER MOAR!) which may or may not of put my back up.

It's a bog roll holder of the Gods, but still a bog roll holder. Now the Tempest? CCP can fark right off and leave that one alone. It's a majestic beat that was done right the first time.
Space whale also needs a good kick in the 3D Studio.

No it's not just a texture thing. do you know how normal mapping and topogun work? if not, youtube it, I don't have time to write a 5 page essay on it.
But the short version is this. You take a high poly 4 million tri model and make a low poly version of it. Then you project the high poly to the low poly. You can pick whatever tri count you want for your new low poly, lets say the old one was 1000.
In case of the punisher they took the high poly, used topogun or similar software, remade the low poly at 1400, to let through more detail of the high poly normal map projector. This means the model is yes, different.
However in the case of the maller and scorpion they didn't just change the low poly, they remade the high poly from scratch.
Normal maps may seem like just a texture to you, but it's not that simple.

*snip*
No, I know what a normal map is. As you and I both just said... that's different to "HDing" the thing. If you'd have said all of that in the first place I wouldn't have had issue.
I still contest that they have changed the high poly model of the Punisher though, but I do agree not as much as the Maller or Scorpion.
