Originally by: Seul Manus Ahh but your jump clone body is still just a copy. The concept is immortality, and true immortality is the original body lasts forever, not a series of copies.
Exactly but my example is that you're jumping from the body you were born with into a clone.
Now imagine if you jumped from that clone to other clones, and maybe a long the way had a few pod deaths.
All those copies of you, will accumulate memories, and will die or jump clone into new clones which will carry on with these memories.
Now imagine after all these years one of your clones decide to jump back into your original body, the one you were born in.
You'd wake up after all these years of being in suspended animation, with years worth of memories that are not yours, yet you wouldn't know the difference. It would be as if you lived all those lives. Now that's not bad for immortality. It just means you'd have to jump clone before you died, and it also means that your original self never did these things, but no one would know the difference. The other clones are either in suspended animation or dead.

Edited by: Seul Manus on 02/06/2011 15:57:30 The trouble with biology is bodies age, and clones will have to be aged along other wise one clone will be younger then the original body, and the next clone will be a bit older hen the original body to keep up the appearnce of age in the clone.
Other wise you'd have a 200 year old mind in a teenagers body.
I'd be better if the 'pod' was just an escape 'pod' as in one of many as the ship is abandonded, and the said 'pod' would via the games code warp to the nearest station persay.
The player in his/her escape 'pod' would have just a 'pod' to their name and the isk in their account, or a new noobie ship if they are broke.
They will have lost their ship, their cargo, and their crew are scattered as their employment contract went up with the players ship.
Elite had this coding as far as no tub of goo, so I can't see why CCP couldn't either.

Basically what happens with rejuvenation in Peter F. Hamilton's commonwealth saga. Though it didn't have alot of spaceships, lots of wormholes though. --- There are two sides to the EVE community; those that scream for change and those that scream against it. Often they are the same person. |

My major concern with Incarna currently is that so MANY stations exist is high sec, for what seems like no reason. So, if you're not in Jita/Amarr/Motsu ... will you see anyone when you dock?
I'd be happy if CCP removed 50% of the high sec stations, they don't serve much purpose, why the hell would those corps put two or three stations in one system when they're nothing corps anyways.

Walking from the CQ onto the balcony with an Abaddon activated in the hanger is really amazing. The immense scale is really incredible.

The question is why arent there bathrooms. The complete lack of showers/bathrooms is an immersion breaker for a feature thats only existance is to make the game more immersible. I don't need them to be function but its silly there isnt a shower.

hehe, the garbage bags and overall "ugly" look to it may just be because its the Minmatar CQ which is HOPEFULLY just 1 of the 4 CQs that we will get. For what it is though, (ugly minmatar CQ) I actually really like it.

I just want to point out the new tutorial explains 1st thing, your old body has been destroyed in order to become a pod pilot...

Immersion breaker is that CCP expects me to be wearing clothing while I'm in my pod and that I should lose said clothing if I get podded. Have they read their own lore/chronicles or watched their Incarna teaser trailer?

Originally by: S'qarpium D'igil I will say that it could use some more sound. It seems like that's all that it's missing, really. The atmosphere just isn't quite "right," and I think it's because of a lack of background noise/sound effects/station ambiance.
These are stations full of thousands -- if not millions -- of people, and yet it's so quiet that you could hear a pin drop.
QFT. An earlier MMO, Earth & Beyond had amazing station ambiance. There were even station announcements about vacations, contraband checks, etc.. would love to experience similar sounds, at the very least, when we start exploring the station on foot.

Yes but .. but .. you have to have clothes with you in case you dock somewhere else? Actually it's quite annoying to have to put on cheap clothes first before you undock.

What's wrong with just leaving your pod naked and walk around aux naturel?
I mean, this is like tens of thousands of years into the future, you'd think people are used to looking at someone else's willy now.

Nothing wrong with it except the hypocrite 21st century censoring that have the idea that seeing naked people will permanently damage and scar your soul. I guess mirrors should be prohibited too, the idea .... !

THIS.
If they let you walk around with nothing on they would have to change the ESRB rating to M and the media watchdogs who think they know what's good for children would probably campaign to have EvE banned. I would think we should not even think we have a body in our ship. The pod would be our brain pattern.
Reminds me of the movie Johnny Mnemonic
When in the pod its just a standard human form with our pattern but when we are in our portrait form we have shaped them to what we want to look like.

Then I'm glad RL future faster then light interstellar travel will be more like Star Wars then Eve Online.

Edited by: Sakura Ren Fenikkusu on 18/06/2011 17:03:45 Everyone should read the EVE novels, it gives a very good idea about the whole process of cloning and how things work. I'll give a quick run-down of how I see it though:
You have your body, which is enhanced with cybernetic implants.
These cybernetic implants increases your abilities, beyond that of a normal human. You are able to learn subconsciously, that's why you can inject a skill book and just wait for it to finish.
What makes capsuleers immortal are the medical clones. When your body dies, or is about to die, a toxin is injected into your brain that "freezes" it. You brain is scanned, and all your memories and current though processes and transmitted to your medical clone, where you "wake up" in a brand new body.
Note: In the novels, you are wake up without any hair and absolutely no scars, tatoos, or piercings. Imagine having to get a new tatoo/piercing every time your were podded? *shudders*
Now, all medical clones have a certain capacity, think of this like a hard drive. Unless you upgrade it, only so much of your memories and thoughts can be transmitted and stored inside of it.
The pod itself doesn't assist with the cloning, it's only purpose it to connect you with the rest of your ship, and protect you should the ship be destroyed.
That is why it is also possible to die while outside of your pod. As can be seen in a certain part of an eve novel, when a capsuleer intentionally kills himself with molten metal to "jump clone". I believe this is also how deaths will work with DUST 514, but kinda hard to believe that the marines would be augmented with cybernetics.
Well, I don't think I missed any aspects, so there you go.
