Because it made traveling too easy with close to zero risk. Set destination -> Autopilot -> Afk.
Also, what would be the point of traveling yourself if autopilot was practically just as good? :P

Running out of things to complain about Calathea Sata? --- There are two sides to the EVE community; those that scream for change and those that scream against it. Often they are the same person. |

Given that CCP doesn't like warp to zero at all, it shouldn't be too hard to figure out.
Maybe its a tech issue, but I don't see why they didn't just make it so you can't place bookmarks within 30~km of gates and stations. Would have solved the server load problem rather easily, and kept the original design in place.

Early in the game, all gate jumps were to 15km which necessitated the need for bm. Copying bm crated a HUGE impact on the server so they decided to can them (no pun intended). Much to the chagrin of the day (and the bm sellers) CCP decided to get rid of the need for jtz bm, thus reducing the load on the server.
Now pls - stop posting and PLAY THE GAME

It's a mechanic CCP uses to insure that a chance for combat exists. This, in turn, is supposed to prevent or reduce AFK piloting, because you know, forcing folks to be at their keyboards for mind numbing travel is important in EvE. On the other hand, autopilot warp to zero would kinda wreck the "fun" people have in lowsec.

This, If AP warped to zero you would never have any reason NOT to use AP for traveling. |

Well what's the use of tediously at-keyboard warping anyway? It's boring beyond all reasonability.
I don't really care about not jumping to zero but the fact that your journey will take an hour longer is really extremely annoying. Make it warp to 5 so your enemies may still web and scram you but not 15.

The real question is; why doesn't warping to an object manually place you 15km away?

I like this idea. Right now Autopilot has the two disincentives of being dangerous and being much slower. Lessening the time difference would probably get more people using it. More people using it, more opportunities for what could vaguely be termed pvp. Even a fairly inept gatecamp should be able to catch and kill someone warping 5km off a gate and slowboating towards it without even an afterburner.

I do, except for the odd time I'm in a shuttle or frigate. Autopilot is just too slow. I'd probably risk it with an insured Tech 1 ship if it was a bit faster though.
So are you too slow to catch a ship that warps in at 5km, or do you just prefer more people manually warping and being that bit harder to catch?

Warp to Zero never should have happened. CCP just pussied out over killing insta BMs.

It was funny to be honest. On one hand, you had prats complaining about not being able to gate camp effectively any longer, then on the other hand, you had the same people complaining about server stability. The best thing about warp to zero being introduced was it done away with the massive lag fests that were happening when everyone was copying and selling "instas" via escrow.
Remember when CCP announced they were removing all the instas? The weekend before the removal was so laggy and there were so many server crashes because of the copying that CCP asked people to stop copying, lol. Ah, the good old days, and it's funny when people complain about the server stability these days.
