This game is composed of a lot of (good 80%) of men who find that it is ok to be a sexist/racist guy among their their sexist/racist corpmates and alliances mates. Everywhere you go: a fleet, mining op etc - everywhere you hear words like: Homo, ***got, Jew, ******, Paki, *****, ****, Etc. Etc.
Fleets with names like: "Let's kill ***gots in ..." or "Kill all the ... *****es in" etc. etc.
Majority of players in this game that i have met (and I have been playing for 2 years now, and yes this is my alt) fit into the above description. What is wrong with majority of you people? Treating women like things who are only good for satisfying you in bed and mother your children - time to grow up and mature. I know that this will get a lot of replies and trolls but whatever. If you think that there isn't an alternative point of view out there, then enjoy living in your "bubble".
I realise that people won't change straight away, but hey we did not abolish slavery and such in one day.

If I see there is a problem - I deal with it or at least voice it. Sitting on your behind and wait until someone else will fix your problems isn't a way out. No need to quote some religious "leader".
Now for the rest of players - I enjoy the game with you and it's awesome!
Think for yourself. Question everything.

So, don't be offended when something offensive is said, basically?

I agree, it's irritating (won't say offensive because I don't get offended).
My solution is simply to not speak to people like that. I get more enjoyment out of ignoring/blocking them or leaving the corp/alliance if it is widespread than I would get from arguing with them.
You can't change other people, but you can change your own actions and perceptions to make your own life more enjoyable.

My experience is that most Eve players are quite mature in their outlook, so if the people in your corp/alliance are bigots and you don't like bigotry, then you're probably in the wrong corp/alliance.

Can't go to war thinking your enemies are nice people. Consider the benefit of anonymity on the internet and given the brutal nature of EVE PvP it's hardly surprising that people get emotionally drawn into that brutally which manifests as hatred for your opponent. --- There are two sides to the EVE community; those that scream for change and those that scream against it. Often they are the same person. |

Edit: quoting freedom of speech rights in this case simply demonstrates your complete lack of understanding for their intent/purpose and the responsible use of said rights.
Actually, your understanding of what a white knight is. Is on par with your understanding of the restrictions placed on freedom of speech. Those restriction exist in the real world for real reasons not in a videeo game for some little tool who is frightened by the cold air suddenly coming out of the fridge.

Freedom of speech just means you can't arrested for saying what you like, it doesn't extend to not getting sanctioned by CCP:) Quoting from their Terms of Service As an Eve Online subscriber, you must observe and abide by the rules of conduct and policies outlined below, as well as the End User License Agreement. Failure to comply with these regulations can result in the immediate termination of your account and you will forfeit all unused access time to the game. No refunds will be given. -- You may not use any abusive, defamatory, ethnically or racially offensive, harassing, harmful, hateful, obscene, offensive, sexually explicit, threatening or vulgar language. (Alternate spelling or partial masking of such words will be reprimanded in the same manner as the actual use of such words.) -- You may not organize nor be a member of any corporation or group within EVE Online that is based on or advocates any anti-ethnic, anti-gay, anti-religious, racist, sexist or other hate-mongering philosophies -- You may not use ôrole-playingö as an excuse to violate these rules. While EVE Online is a persistent world, fantasy role-playing game, the claim of role-playing is not an acceptable defense for anti-social behavior. Role-playing is encouraged, but not at the expense of other player. You may not create or participate in a corporation or group that habitually violates this policy.

Nope - it has nothing to do with free speech. It is simply not liking a person who continually says things that you don't like. Incompatible personalities.
You may like bigotry, and if so your friends are likely bigots. But if you met a person who loudly exclaimed "JIGGLEDLEYBOO!!!!!" and twirled in circles every hour on the hour, I doubt you'd be close friends with the person.
Nobody likes everyone.

Ya know what I like best about Eve? It brings out the primal nature in people. Don't believe me? Go live in a WH for a while. I guarantee during your stay there you'll get good at hiding from bigger predators, and ambushing defenseless prey. And o yea, packs can get the job done so much better then roaming alone.
As for being sexist, OP is clearly one of them.

Just you generalizing and saying that is just as sexist as any guy that thinks he's superior to women.
As for being racist, I think you're misunderstanding what you read.
what you're seeing isn't racism...it's the primal urge to compete with one another. It stems from our predatory nature, and women do it too.
Lets look at lions for a sec. A typical pride will have more then 1 male lion in the group. Obviously the alpha is the one in charge, but 99% of the time he gets along just fine with the other male lions. However, every now and then the two lions will fight with each other, to reinforce dominance and mating rights. the weaker of the two will back down, and later on everything will be back to it's harmonious ways.
Humans (generally speaking) have evolved beyond the point of fighting for mating rights. But that need to compete is still there. Two male friends, no matter how close, will always nip at each other from time to time.
You can't say that men are the only ones that do it too. I work in an office composed primarily of women. There are literally two women right now that are trying to get each other fired. I'm friends with one, and one day I asked her why there's such animosity between them. Her response:
"I just don't like her."
It's just human nature.

This is also mostly true, but not everyone has an equal need to compete as everyone else. Myself for example - my desire to compete is extremely low. I'm not saying that I don't occasionally want to fight, and I am extremely assertive IRL when someone tests me (though not aggressive, it doesn't come to blows).
But...
I mostly have no need to compete. It is probably the reason that I find sports to be extremely boring - I never care what team wins and so the games hold no interest for me. Maybe life would be more interesting if I were more competitive, but I find being laid-back to be quite peaceful and rewarding.

Think for yourself. Question everything.
Those are just words, and they only have the meaning you give them.
Take the word "gay." It was originally a slur against homosexuals describing their flamboyant demeanor in the 60s and 70s, when gay people where really trying to define themselves.
Now it's accepted as a legitimate noun for homosexuals.
Go figure.
Personally I prefer "heterosexually-challenged." It sounds more dignified.
So how's that for troll food?

I'm from the U.K. And our humour is traditionally: self-deprecating, sexist, racist, homophobic and my personal favourite, toilet humour
I'm not gonna lie, I'll admit I find all the above very funny in the context of a joke. But just because myself and others get a laugh out of it. It doesn't necessarily reflect our personally view.

It's used against anyone who looks middle eastern with brown skin.

I understand your point, but if someone tells a racist/sexist/? joke and there are no minorities around to hear it, did racism/sexism/ occur? In the U.S. when you hear someone start to make a point by saying "I'm not racist,but..." you just know some racist crap is about to come out of their mouth.

Quoting this because it's the sort of thing that gets said a lot to excuse racist / sexist jokes, however I suspect the real reason so many people go along with it is because its the path of least resistance.
If you're genuinely going to take a stand when someone makes a joke that's out of order then you'd better be prepared to stand up for yourself in a shouting match on TS, not to mention that people who don't conform to the lowest grade of 4chan humour are easy to frame as outsiders or trouble makers, as demonstrated by this quote.

I never got that. People call me a Brit (short for British), or Americans Yanks (never met an American offended by that term either, and I guess Amers wouldn't work, maybe 'cans?) and it is not racist, but someone calls a Pakistani a Paki, and it is somehow terrible.
Random thoughts:
Try using the n-bomb while black, in a conversation. Now try it while white and spot the difference in response.
Why does ginger mocking not evoke the same response as mocking a member of a racial group?
