I sometimes watch my 15 year old son play the odd FPS game, 30 mins at a time max, the game is branded "old" in less than a month if it's a great one.
Eve seems sooooo far removed from what Dust appears to be I strugle to see the point in connecting the two at all, if CCP think they can make a FPS to rival the others out there then get on with it I say, but as an Eve player I dont really care for it. --------------------------------------- -=Snasty, short for Shagnasty ever since the GM's in SWG made me change it...!=- |

This honestly blows...I knew it wasn't coming out on PC but I really thought it would come out for Xbox 360. Why don't they just make a Bluray movie of Dust514 because that is all the PS3 is good for. ================================================= What is right is not always popular, and what is popular is not always right. |

This is what a lot of people have been saying since Dust was announced as being for consoles. Even if it can somehow get people playing it, in a segment packed full of FPS's and several large well known names amongst them. It's got 2 months to make its money and then it's gone.
Now if CCP are going with their initial plan of bolting this in to the sov system somehow then... anyone playing EVE is well and truly screwed in 2 months after Dust is released.
I'm not quitting EVE just yet, you can't have my stuff, but I am shopping for a new MMO to waste my time on.

I feel sorry for your son. EvE players are not the target demographic for Dust. What is wrong with you? Dust is for an entirely different gamer! CCP is trying to bring in different players, NOT appease the existing player base. If we pods are appeased, great; but it's not the main aim. They've explicitly said this. For EvE having such a "smart" player base I don't see why this is escaping so many people. I guess the galaxy needs scam victims too...
Dust is designed for twitch-based FPS kids... not MMO players w/ spreadsheets.

Precisely. This is why i was excited about dust. I love EVE because it truly is a thinking man's game, and I feel fully engaged when playing it because it isn't mindless. That being said, sometimes I just want to shoot things, and the promise of doing that along while inside the EVE universe really made Dust sound special.

It does and by failing to read what was written you're just as eligable for that scam as you think us two are, unless your yet another version of the copy paste brigade idiots who appears when trying to have a discussion about salvage tables needing tweaking.
We know Dust is aimed at FPS players. We THINK it's a PS3 exclusion but not 100% certain. We were TOLD it's going to be bolted on to the EVE sov mechanics. We are saying that's a bad thing because the shelf life of a FPS is measuring in months.
Does that make it simpler to understand at all? Or are you really saying that you want no 0.0 warfare to happen, ever, because a required element to fully capture a system is no longer present because it's 2 years in the future and nobody plays Dust anymore?

I feel the need to nip this in the butt. Not a single dev, not a single fanfest not a single dev blog, has ever said, EVER that dust was tied into sov. that is something that only fans have said since day 1.

Totally stoked for the release of Dust514. I hope it's just a time-limited exclusive, but even if it isn't I'm okay with that as I own all of the various consoles. I understand why they would pick PS3 over the Xbox, as for me it's usually a superior graphical/sound experience (and the Blu-Ray holds so much more data on a single disc, which alone makes it a leader). ~Gnosis~ |

1) If DUST never gets off the ground, it won't negatively affect EVE in the slightest. It has been designed that way since day one.
2) DUST includes many elements lacking in current FPS that are intended to provide a reason to continue playing. No buying the next release, simply playing and enjoying ongoing updates to the game you already own. Granted, some of the new content will be micro transaction stuff, but if you get new environments and game play options as part of the free update... why wouldn't you continue playing?
Sure, you'll go out and pick up the flavor of the month from time to time, but DUST can always be your standby... a game where you are rewarded for continuing to play.

CCP said that Dust might have somewhen down the road a loose connection and part in sov warfare and that this part is not mandatory (read: you can play sov wf without dust being involved at all) and that if dust OR eve-ssg fail each game could go on separately.

I don't get why people think this will be tied to Sov. either... What seems more likely in my view is using the ground troops to "upgrade" your control of a planet for PI. Similar to deploying a space-upgrading facility in a system one has sov in, an EvE player could charter some Dust guys to take out planet-side resistance to your very-one-sided monopoly which is undoubtedly crushing the slave-like population. I think it'll be an amusing feature for people who do PI... I'm sure the breadth and complexity of PI will increase significantly... but for pod pilots that have no time for PI, the Dust-EvE link may as well not even exist. I mean... I don't know more than anyone else about Dust... but that seems pretty plausible/probable to me.

I wouldn't be so suprised... Since microsoft has so far never allowed another paid MMO service on networks. I recall Champions online was proposed to be one, but became Pc only when MS pulled the plug on the 360 version. --------------------------------------------- Somewhere beyond happyness and sadness, I need to calculate what creates my own madness o/ |

Edited by: Barakkus on 07/06/2011 00:19:29 The big problem is the shooter market is over saturated at the moment, I mean look at all the crap that has come out/coming out this year. Bullet Storm, Breach, Gears of War, Brink, Duke Nukem, Call of Duty stuff, Medal of Honor, Section 8 Prejudice, Red Faction Armageddon, Battlefield 3, Crysis 2, Call of Juarez The Cartel, Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine, Operation Flashpoint: Red River, Deus Ex, etc...granted all these titles are PC titles, but many of them ended up/will end up on console too. Most people into the genre play something for a while then hop right to the next thing that comes out, and it keeps going...people rarely go back to a shooter once it's a year past release after they find the next new shooter on the market.
The only thing Dust will have going for it is the MMO aspect, but I don't think many console gamers will care at all for the most part. All the people I know that are hardcore console gamers could care less about MMOs and most won't even consider playing anything that is considered an MMO. - [SERVICE] Corp Standings For POS anchoring |
