Edited by: Nova Kierra on 05/06/2011 20:28:56 I have a new alt with no specific skills yet. I have a choice to go either route: caldari/missiles, minmatar/projectiles, amarr/energy weapons.
My main objective is militia pvp, secondary - level 4 missions for corp standings. (Not max ISK/Hour)
With Caldari Frigate I have access to Navy Hookbill. For 20 million a piece it's considered a fine pvp ship by many. I personally don't have much experience in it. Caldari Assault Ships and Interceptors are nothing exciting. Same goes for Caldari Cruisers. Drake on the other hand is a great pvp ship or so it seems looking at the Killboard of 4 militias. I could see usefulness of a HAM Drake in a small gang, but solo PVP? Can it even survive a gate camp in Tama?
Minmatar have great frigates, assault ships and even interceptors. They have one of the best cruisers - Rupture and a pretty good battle cruiser - Hurricane.
Amarr have Punisher, Crusader, Harbinger, Pilgrim, Curse -- popular ships that come to my mind.
Instead of training every ship race to V and both missiles and gunnery I would much rather specialize in one thing at a time first. So what do you guys think? Should I train Missiles/Caldari Frigate-Cruiser-Battlecruiser-Battleship? Amarr ships / Energy weapons? OR Minmatar / Projectile weapons? Which race has the best solo PVP ship?

Edited by: Deen Wispa on 05/06/2011 23:33:36 Go with minnie. I crosstrained over to Minnie from Gallente. I will be entering FW in the next couple days and intend to use my stabber (yes, you read that right) to hunt targets. The stabber is underestimated and gives many of the opposing targets too much confidence. You can easily go 2 on 1 against another cruiser and frig or 2 frigs. I've fallen into a couple of traps with my Stabber last week and the GTFO ability for minnie ships is amazing. There is no way I could've survived had I flown my Vexor.
Ruptures are also fine ships too but it can scare people away from a fight especially frigates.

Edited by: VKhaun Vex on 06/06/2011 04:08:11 What do you want to fly later? What kinds of larger ships do you like? What else will you do with frigs?
Knowing what you want to skill can really narrow your choices.
When I started as Amarr I had no idea I'd end up liking missiles and speed the most, and it completely changed how I wanted to skill. Even though I really like the punisher and then later the thrasher (LOL INSTAGIB ARTILLERY), I'm going to be flying Caracals, Hookbills and maybe Maledictions for now, due to the missile and Caldari ship skills I'll need for the Cerberus and Tengu later. It wouldn't make sense to try and do projectile turret and laser skills now that will be wasted on those missile boats later.

Minmitar ships are great at solo engagements due to speed and GTFO ability, as stated. Consider, however, that not all engagements are going to allow you to light the MWD and run away.
Amarr ships are usually more survivable, EHP wise, and can kick out an incredible amount of DPS. Pulse lasers are fantastic at damage projection with scorch. When you're webbed down and forced to slug it out, you're going to last a lot longer than a speed-tanking ship.
Finally, the curse & pilgrim are probably the two best ships to solo-PVP in.
