So I was wondering. If I was sitting on a bunch of information on a massive and yet to be popularized exploit, would I be able to sell it to CCP?
Back when I played Second Life I would steal exploits from the PN and sell them to the Lindens for Linden. I made a decent amount of money from doing this and the lindens were able to patch serious exploits before they got out of hand. I once paid philip linden -9001 lindens and instead of banning me he asked me "how did you do that?" so I told him and he paid me 25k lindens and raised my withdrawel limits enough that I could turn that linden into an actual cash reward. needless to say the exploit I showed him was patched that day less then 45 mins after I showed him.
So I ask dose it work the same way here? Can I sell super secret exploits and the means to easily fix them for isk or plex?
I make this thread because I have my ear to the ground and there has recently been some rather unsavory talk about a newly discovered exploit that could cause some serious problems for CCP if people started using it.
I won't say what it is but I will say that if CCP made me an offer I would gladly betray those who shared it with me in confidence.

Well CCP Sreegs did give something to the people providing useful info about the vulnerabilities of the new forums and not exploited it.

Edited by: VKhaun Vex on 06/06/2011 01:12:18 I read a lot of comments about things other games would call 'exploits' that seem condoned by CCP.
I read somewhere that people can PvP in high security areas through faction and corporate warfare, but people will come into the fight with unaffiliated alts and intentionally try to take damage from area of effect weapons like smartbombs, which causes NPC guards to join and help their side. Sometimes corporations have big events, to try and destroy people's large expensive ships in high security areas before NPC guards can stop them.
I've been warned and suspended in other games and banned from personal dedicated servers for doing things like this that I thought were very clever at the time.
I wouldn't waste their time with an 'exploit' unless it was exploiting an actual bug in the game (Like your sims example with sending a negative amount) not just an exploit of normal game mechanics.
Gate camping sounds like it's a TRADITION in EVE, but that alone will get a reaction from CSR's in some games. Not that it's an exploit, but I'm just saying their attitude about things is a bit more liberal.

What I have to share is in fact an exploit. It has nothing to do with pvp or pve and more to do with how the server handles character assets.
Truth be told it would probably be more entertaining to watch it rapidly gain popularity, I just figured I am low on isk and I would not mind selling it as I am one of few people that actually knows how it works. I don't know if you could milk any ISK/PLEX out of CCP, but I am fairly sure they won't like the idea of you admitting you know of an exploit and fail to report it. Then again, it doesn't hurt to try... what's the worst that could happen other than getting banned ? _

Ummm ... instead of wasting your time asking us (since nothing we say matters) - why not petition CCP and ask them?

I'd say that there is about an equal chance that CCP will either silently fix the exploit in the next patch, or they will ban you right away and ignore the exploit for half a year until someone else makes bilions from it.
Getting a reward? A snowball's chance in Hell. ---

CCP Sreegs posted this a while back:
1. You must provide us with details regarding the exploit including reproduction steps when possible. 2. You must not abuse the exploit in question once you've discovered it, whether as a "prank" or otherwise. CCP is a corporation and we must treat all exploitation of our corporate assets with extreme seriousness. What may be hilarious to you may also be a crime in whatever country you're pulling your masterful prank from. I'm working internally to try to formalize a program to reward people who give us information which better helps us to secure our systems. In the meantime I've made it a personal habit to ensure that people who help us out are given some form of reward and that happened at least twice in this particular occurrence.
