I've heard of these great programs for AFK mining, I think they are called macro's or something to that effect. You might want to look into it.

I realize that it is very inefficient and slow, but I'd rather get a "free" 112 k veldspar while I'm watching a movie with my girlfriend or eating dinner than nothing at all. That's how I have it now with my wreathes, and if I could do this with two mammoths I'd ge a free 265k veldspar after a night out (if not more, depending on how I should've calculated the bonuses).
You came here looking for others opinions and I gave you mine, and even reading your rebuttle I still think that your wrong.
A full mammoth of ore is still only worth a couple of hundred of thousand of isk. Its not really all that much money in the grand scheme of things.

AFK mining overnight (if you can even manage it) is a horrific waste of time. You'd be much better off parking in a hub system and trading, or doing planetary interaction. You could easily make 10 times what you make in your little mining frigates just by setting a buy order, and selling it for a higher price the next day (with the right products and a little luck). Planetary interaction, you can just run a 8 hour cycle, go to bed, and collect your ISK in the morning.
I don't know who turned you on to this "sitting on a veld roid all night" idea, but they should be shot for giving you the worst advice possible.

You'd be better off station trading to make money when you're unable to play.
Thanks, that's what I feared. However, the rocks I find now are big enough for my wreathes, even with 2x expanded cargohold II! ^^
Station trading? As in traveling between stations buying cheap and selling for a profit?
@ Velicita - I'm having a hard time believing that would be profitable for you! ^^
Suicide gankers don't do it for the money for some bizarre reason they consider it fun.. almost like afk mining

Edited by: Page Starcaster on 13/06/2011 00:54:44 OK lots of ideas here. Most have no effect on what the OP has asked.
PI can be done yes. But this does not affect the time the OP is talking about. He could still do his AFK mining and do the PI at the same time. Just cash in the PI goods when he is not AFK.
Trading too is also a great AFK isk maker. Your orders are filled or sold while you are AFK and you come back to reset new ones when you have time to be ATK. But he could still do this and the AFK mining at the same time.
But really there is better ways to make money AFK with an industrial ship. you could set your hulk to AFK on the same roid for 5-6 minutes and make the same isk as AFKing for 2 hours with the industrial.
If you do some market research you will find some items sell high in Jita and Low in another trade hub and vise versa. I find that even with a small industrial you can make several mil per load buying cheap in one hub and hauling it to where it sells high. To avoid the suicide gankers you just need to haul high volume items. Make your profit moving high volume low value items not high value low volume items.
It is simple to do. Just make the purchase, load it, set destination to where you want to sell it,( 20-30 jumps away can make for crazy profits) hit auto pilot and go AFK for the night. Come back in the morning sell your load buy some thing available cheap there, set destination to where it sells high. hit auto pilot and head off to work. I have made an extra 20-30 mil per day doing this, besides the isk I make when actually logged in and playing. And that was with a mammoth before I got a freighter. Although this method does not scale well for a freighter load. it is to hard to find high enough volumes to justify using a freighter over a T1 industrial.
At any rate you should have little trouble finding a load you can make more isk off than AFK mining with the same ship. Even 30 jumps or more only takes a few hours on auto pilot for a freighter. If you have the capital to play with you can do this with rare items that can be bought from NPCs locally and sold in area's the items are not available, for huge profits. Just be careful how much your cargo is actually worth. even a freighter can get suicide ganked if its cargo is worth more than the ships it would cost to gank it. You do not want to AFK auto pilot a freighter with over 1 bil in cargo. for small industrial the maximum safe value of your cargo is much lower. But there is definitely much more money to be made with about the same risk in AFK hauling than in AFK mining.

Is eve broken badly or am I really reading that a player needs 5 toons to make a profit???
Why? Why can't we have a mechanism for industry so carebears can team up and profit together?
Why does the game not provide mechanics, just like fleets, for industrial purposes?
5 accounts is just silly, why play an MMO if you refuse to participate with others and further why does an MMO require such horrible play mechanics to keep a decent level of income?
BTW, you can make almost as much if not more cash then nullsec running level 4's, it just doesn't make sense to mine at all, in the end highsec mining will always net you less then running level 4 missions.
