Hi CCP.
Could we have a client to change skills and also experience in game service like mining, trading or combat on either iPad, iPhone or tablets please?
It is because combined tablets and smartphones sales will surpass PC soon and it means if we have iPhone, iPad or tablets clients soon, we can actually play Eve on the go.
It also means we can have new friends in this ever going Eve community.
Not forgetting it means CCP is practising prudence in making Eve available on consumerlised platforms in the near future. There will be one tablet bought every minute.

Edited by: Albetta on 06/06/2011 18:43:34 No. Tablets would be good only for an application like evegate that allows for answering messages and changing skills. Mining, combat, etc like you suggested would be too intense for tablets.

High end tabs can already play EVE (just not on max settings do to pathetic GPU cooling (not much room for a real fan).
Maybe when they make a liquid cooled tab we could really play EVE (and other semi-high graphics games) on tabs. But till then, they are limited by their lack of heat prevention.

Yeah - I'm on my iPad most of the time, and can't play Eve all that often. I'd at least kill for a companion app that has local chat (based on where your character is currently), EveVoice, a way to view the overview, a better fitting tool, a way to update and do PI and contracts. Essentially anything non-combat related.

Right! Just copy and paste the EVE code into a tablet program! It's not like they will have to completely rewrite the game engine and spend thousands of dollars in development and testing on a platform they have absolutely no experience with!

Golly, Jim. You've hit a nail on the coffin. These features are a must have. Combat, whilst you think it is an option, I would prefer to have it too because running missions (unlikely with short breaks) and quick skirmish against non-computer players (very likely) can be important especially when friends are needed to do something together.
Also, combat features are important because tablets will be a large percentage of computer ownership in the near future. Put it simply, some realistic numbers I am one person who has four computers. One iPhone, iPad, BlackBerry and a laptop. That is I own 3 tablets and 1 PC. If Eve Tablet client was available, I can access Eve on three platforms that I usually have almost on a 24 hour basis.
That's Eve 365.25 days a year for the layman. --------- Sent from my BlackBerry.

Tablet, PC, phones. Isn't it just another machine? I mean Apps that run on the iPhone can run on the iPad. Make one Eve Tablet, you can have it on phones and tablets.
Wouldn't that be good business sense for both CCP and the community?

CCP has talked about this in the past. For it to be reality it would have to not introduce much in the way of development time.
While I think it would be nice, I just don't see it happening, with everything CCP has in the pipeline, they just don't have the bandwidth for another project like this without greatly increasing the Eve playerbase and therefore the revenue stream.
Besides, you same people in here begging for the iApp would be *****ing about how they are not fixing bugs/lag/<insert your pet bug here>.

I'm against it for purely personnel selfish reasons that I don't have access/time to such a device or the ability to 'play' on the go like when I'm at work as some people might.
Having said that this is CCP who've ditched support for Linux, Costs too much/not enough users, ditched support of older hardware, costs too much not enough users plus **** you buy new hardware, etc.
Seems to me they aren't interested in spending more money on developing for another platform whatever those costs. Now they've said they want to add more features to evegate so that is a 'door' to add more content accessibility for some people to at least do more on the go in game.

This is viable on tablets because their sizes are getting bigger. Phones, that'll be interesting but since if Eve App works on tablets, it should work on phones.
People on the go wouldn't be fussed about sizes on phones since most would not using it for P2P but they would welcome the free accessibility as featured on tablets.

That's a good idea but not that economically feasible on 3G. It is something that would make do for now but not future proof.
The future is more tablets or phones bought than PCs as I have mentioned earlier, as it has the potential growth of 400%. My god, that's four hundred percent.
The figure is seen from current trend like I have an iPhone, iPad, BlackBerry and a PC that is 3x new computing devices than a traditional PC. I am sure others would have 2x new computing devices than a traditional PC. Most importantly, they are accessible almost anywhere!
With dedicated Apps, it would be just data between tablets and CCP. If I were to use remote desktop, I believe I am transferring the entire image. This means more money lost from the player on the go.

Eve Station is good. But as I mentioned earlier, long term evolution is that tablets can play games. Why not have a dedicated Eve App that can also do PC gaming? Phones and tablets can play console-like games these days. PC-like gaming is the next step.
Heck, first there was Angry Birds on iPhones. Now, there's Angry Birds on PCs. I am using Angry Birds here because it is a very well known game or brand. Just like Lady Gaga. --------- Sent from my BlackBerry.

If CCP is all about expanding the number of vectors into New Eden, this seems like it should be an easy sell.
The beauty of it is, they only have to do like 65% of it, release it then abandon it. Then file it with FW, PI, Eve Gate, etc.

Believe me, this topic has come up and been requested MANY times with little to no response from CCP. There certainly is a demand for it, but it's up to CCP to supply it and currently it looks like a no go
As it currently stands, EvE Gate is a complete waste of developer efforts and a useless feature. Especially since almost everything that you can do with EvE Gate you can already do with a 3rd party smartphone app. The features that are exclusively EvE Gate features are worthless anyways and barely warrants mention. _____________________________________

Golly. This is kind of sad that CCP is not looking at Apps. I mean the whole planet is churning Apps every single day and it is sad that it is not being considered and overlooked even though the demand is there. Eve App would be a God's gift to the community.
I do however see a point with Eve Gate. As it is now, a web based Eve Gate means Eve is one step more accessible by everyone on any platform. However, the next step would be a more featured Eve in the form of an App.

It's different. CCP will have to recode the entire game to make sure it is compatible with the tablet and smartphone. Everything will need to be re-coded, as they will have to figure out how to make the game work without some of the things a computer has. Not only that, but they have to make sure the tablet has the proper specs to run the game. And like someone previously said, the device would overheat as it doesn't have an efficient method of cooling for a game on EVE's scale.
I don't have anything against the idea itself. From a creative standpoint it should be done and if it could CCP would of probably done it already. However smartphone and tablet technology is still in it's infancy. The mighty Iphone hasn't even been around for a full decade.
Please consider the technical aspects of the game before making future suggestions. If designing a fully functioning game was as easy as you try to make it sound, there would be a lot more games out there.

Considering how little they want to support anything but the core client, and only if it handles all the shiny bits.
Never going to happen.
They could have kept the lite client deal so they had a broader range of users but now they are limiting it with the shaders and other system requirements as they add in incarna's content (and making it mandatory)

No. There once was a time where there was a lite version of Eve. This was removed due to the increase of production time when coding 2 different clients. Its wasted production time for something that will only be used by a small % of people. If anything they will just add some more capabilities to evegate and that is your mobile Eve.

I've actually been toying with the idea of using an RDP on my iPad/iPhone to access my home computer to play EVE; even read a few topics on here discussing such options.
I know I won't be able to do high FPS activity like pve/pvp, but I think market trading and maybe setting freighter runs or ice mining might be possible.
ofc, an app from ccp would be preferable,
but in the mean time...

Well, they can extend the Carbon code to Silicon code that is easily suitable for mobile platforms and once they have it, the front end would be easy to deal with for Winlet, iPhones and Android. Of course, they can pick platforms that are widely used first to start with.
Maybe Eve App for Android then iPhones before Winlet.
I really doubt only 2% would be interested for taking Eve in performing bodily functions. It is Eve Everywhere. --------- Sent from my BlackBerry.
