Greetings, to my sisters, brothers, and any who may be genuinely curious about the Matari path.
Many Matari, particularly those raised outside of traditional Tribal communities, have never been given a chance to learn what is meant by ôWalking the Pathö, have never learned of our own beliefs and religious practices. Of course, these practices vary somewhat from Tribe to Tribe, and even among the tribes, variance can be found in individual Clans and sub-tribes, but the central theme remains consistent throughout the Minmatar religious realm; honoring our ancestors, receiving guidance from the spirits, and staying true to the path that the spirits choose for us. But, where can one learn this facet of ôbeing Matariö, if one grew up in a culture that either did not embrace, or outright suppressed, our beliefs? How can one learn how to see the path, to follow it?
I make no claim to ôknow allö that there is to know about the various traditions followed by our people; certainly, a Starkmanir will seek the path, seek guidance, in far different ways than a Sebiestor, for example. However, for those who wish to learn more, to at least hear one interpretation, are welcome to join me in ôThe Standing Placeö, a new channel and virtual environment I have commissioned for this very purpose, to speak freely with myself and one another, and maybe find some answers to the questions they may have. Please feel free to use the channel as a social place, though many such do exist already, I certainly do not mind if people wish to visit and partake in civil discussion of more worldly topics there. It is my hope that shamans of other tribes will visit, so that all Matari beliefs may be represented and available for those who seek them.
Non-Matari are welcome, and indeed encouraged to come. Through communication we may develop a better understanding of one another, but please be respectful of the intention of the channel. Polite theological debate is encouraged, regardless of the beliefs of the speaker, but please, refrain from any racial remarks or religious idealism; engaging in that sort of behaviour helps none of us, and will result in the offender, if they persist, being removed from the channel. This is not a place for hate.

Will these be lessons taking place at a regular time, or simply a forum for attendants to ask questions about the Matari faith and spiritual traditions?

Edited by: Andreus Ixiris on 07/06/2011 03:21:43 Actually, I fear given that the brutal genocide against the Starkmanir people was largely successful - in that most of their unique cultural traditions have been permanently lost - very few, if any Starkmanir will ever be able to "Walk the Path" in the manner of their ancestors.
While I'm an atheist and hardline secularist, Minmatar spirituality seems to be an almost universally constructive force, and so this seems like a terrible tragedy to me. ----- Andreus Ixiris CEO, Mixed Metaphor

I attended the opening and am looking forward to many more evenings of learning and stimulating conversation. As one who was raised outside the Republic and who wants strongly to connect with our peoples' heritage, I applaud Ava's work in getting this project started and also thank all who visited for keeping things constructive and respectful.

I might come by when I can. I like it, and as a fellow Matari, I would like to join up once I reach a spot in space that allows such communications. Not much of a shaman though... more of a wanderer I guess. Being such, I have never gone through much paths or anything heavy with tradition. ----

As I stated to you earlier, I will do my best to visit in the near future and I will continue to hope that this is a fruitful and beneficial experience for all who participate.

Hrm....second blatent act of disrespect to a superior oficer in as many days by members of this Order. I shall to write someone a note...
Anyway, apologies for the minor derailment Ms. Starfire. I would like, if I may, to look in on this. I have to admit, I don't know as much about Matari culture as I would like and this seems a way to learn without all the sniping that we usually see here. Once things are up and running, would you be interested in chairing a discussion on the topic through the New Eden Assembly?

I find it disgusting, Blake, that I can start conversations on this board, and participate in similar conversations started by others, regarding Amarrian religion, and remain quite respectful while doing so, but you think you have some right to come crap up my thread with your oral diarrhea. Yeah, get your mouth checked out, I dont think it is working quite as you intend.
Victoria, I will likely leave it informal and "open forum" for now, unless there is a strong desire for a structured "class". If there is, I will happily put one together, so please, feel free to let me know! Thanks much to everyone who has stopped by, and thank you for the support and kind words.
This is my attempt to ensure that what happened to Starkmaniri culture dosent happen to all Matari beliefs and traditions, an attempt to keep them alive, vibrant. I am thankful for those who wish to listen to my ramblings. I will try to keep it coherent.

I do try to be respectful to others, but I generally make exceptions in the cases of those who are dedicated to undermining the Empire.
You should do a bit of research into the activities of EM before you associate yourself with them.

While I appreciate your dedication to the order and structure of the Empire and its militia, Blake is operating as an individual in these discussions and, at best, a representative of PIE, not the Imperial Navy, the militia or any other military organization.
As such, I am not beholden to his rank in these discussions. If this were a battlefield and I were under his command, that would be another story entirely. You may wish to include that information in your report, Mister Mokk. My statements reflect that I often address and speak with others in a respectful manner, affording to them the highest level of respect they are due, regardless of the setting.
Blake: I know full well the activities of the Electus Matari. I also happen to know that what is being presented here is being presented by an individual, as an individual, as a voluntary practice with absolutely no affiliation to the Electus Matari.
Much in the same way that your comments and decisions on these discussion are yours alone unless you are specifically speaking on behalf of PIE inc or any other entity, which would be expressly stated in your statement.

Ms. Rella,
Please reread my previous post. The first line was directed at Raze Valadeus.
The second part was directed to Ms. Starfire and contained an apology for the derailment and expressed an interest in this project.
Andreus: Not even a good try. You've lumped two different circumstances into one incoherant sentance. I'll ask you to be mindful of Ms. Rella's request and follow it.
Sir Lyn: It wasn't you. Don't worry, I'm sure Sir Aldrith has been made aware of the first instance.
Now. Can we pelase return this thread to it's rightful owner?

Now, now, no need for people to get huffy over a few comments. I believe it is everyone's personal prerogative to place their respect where they wish.
Rodj is entitled to be snooty, Anabelle is entitled to curse, and Squire Valadeus is entitled to defend the honor of hostile Matari every now and then.
Whether or not any of these things are wise, I will not comment on. That I'll leave up to the same personal prerogatives that led to the varying statements to be made.

It's amazing how many Amarrians feel their opinion is needed in threads about or for Matari. Aren't you busy enough bothering your God that you need to splurge your thoughts across GalNet whether they're wanted or not?

Well, it goes both ways, really. Matari comment on threads meant for Amarrians too. It usually involves the same sort of disdain you are exhibiting now.
But you are correct, we Amarrians really ought to be above such things.

I can't speak for all the amarrian loyalists speaking here, but my interest was pretty genuine, unless you do not want me to take any part at all in this matter, though I will leave that appreciation to the OP.

I've been watching through my VR link, because I'm VERY interested in what you and others have to say about the Matari, Ava. I've been unable to participate due to corp and alliance matters that have demanded my full attention as of late, but hopefully those will get ironed out soon and I can sit down with you and chat at length.
