You can't make it both consoles with the same servers, it would never work and both Sony and MS would never agree. Therefore they chose whichever one payed better/gave a better chance for communications.

THE PS3 Exclusive thing is not CCPS fault! Tl;Dr: Blame Microsoft's way of connecting to other game platforms
Heres why. If you look into things like Portal 2 and other Steam games, Microsoft is fine allowing you to play with people on the PC or PS3. But the thing with it is that you have to play on the microsoft Xbox live servers and have the PC or PS3 connect to that with you. Since CCP has to have the games connect to TQ to work they can't have multiple platforms connecting. This works for Steam where you are playing Non MMO things like Portal or TF2 where its Map load, play, Done. But not in continous things like EVE or Dust
Think about it. What would happen if 50 percent of the people played on the PS3 connected directly to TQ and the other half played on the xbox on Microsoft's servers. Either you would get epic lag from the Xbox people, or you would have to have two instances of each planet getting fought on, then somehow combine those two fights into one result.

section 8 runs off PC servers.. in fact i can start a section 8 server for 360 if i wanted. they dont need cross platform ps3-> xbox 360 matches. all 360 players would be playing with 360 players.
so it makes no sense. also, they should have came out and said PS3 exclusive WAY earlier... announced it years ago even if they were gonna do this

In standing tradition with EVE they wanted Dust to be easy to hack. |

The other one is that IIRC you can't give out free updates on the MS network. Have fun rebuying the game every six months.

Lets just start with the simple things.
Sony needed friends at the time this choice was made, it was a rather recent deal. We're talking 2 months ago it wasnt official. Sony take more risks on throwing money out on developers with poor/non existent track records. MS understand that Dust is risky and has a very low draw. Microsoft are not sold on the idea of freemium games or item shops, let alone allowing themselves to be cut out of cash by using Aurum. Microsoft have very strict policies in regards to patching and testing, quality control is very tight if you're not a big player. The developers are asians and at some point the game is designed for both an asian and american market (ps. CCP Horace, euros are people too).
At the end of the day, money made the choice - CCP would have had to put a lot of money into Dust for it to be capable of crossing the tickboxes on that list, when they know it's hot a high chance of ending um being itemshop/freemium already, that would further increase the risk of it not returning the capital investment.

no, actually it's PS3 exclusive because CCP are money-grubbing folks who are in bed with Sony. Pretty damn simple actually.

Yeah, this is bogus. If Bethesda, Bioware, and EA can come to terms to let their stuff work with their own network, then clearly CCP could have. I'm sorry, but is it really wise to entrust your customer's security to a company that has been hacked 5 times in the last month? Really? They lose my credit card and then you want me to go buy a $300 console from them AND entrust them with my credit card? Bad form.
Major party foul guys.

this guy explains exactly why it's PS3 exclusive. It's the same reason that Champions Online on x360 was dropped. You can't have multiplatform, single server MMO on the x360. Microsoft testes the patches before they hit the servers. it creates a delay, so if there's a cheat/hack/exploit that needs to be fixed like NOW, they would have to wait for it to pass MS Q&A before going to the X360 network. PSN doesn't have that delay.
Simple. X360 = delay in patches

PSN doesn't require you to give them any credit card info. You have to give them to CCP if that's how you want to pay for your sub.

I personally think it was a bad choice the shooter player base on he PS3 is a lot smaller and so is the actual owner base and the increase of said base I do not see happening with the recent news releases about the credit card hacks and the crack of the PS3! It had in the past the Blueray going for it but that is long in the past and is a dying console their movement techology was a big flop and otherwose things are not looking good and the amount of people getting a console that expensive which can not ensure account safety for 1 game is rather slim. I would say making multiplatform with their being Ps3 merc anc xox mercs and in eve they are just designated under a different merc faction would be a wise move considering you cover a wider range and no cross from sony to microsoft happens and you get a lot more players. ----------------------------------------
