We know that stations have windows because we can see them on the station exteriors. So the question is, will windows exist inside of stations when we get to walk around them?
Windows don't necessarily need to show "live space" outside of the station; I understand the difficulty in that from a coding/programming/graphics standpoint.
It would be nice, though, if we could look out of windows and the the star field, nebula, nearby planets and moons, the sun, etc.

The video "Future EVE" shows a pretty large window looking out into what i would assume is the live space outside. THe Very first DUST trailer also shows a large window with a view of the planet outside.
I assume that CCP wants to have these windows, but simply faces the uphill battle to make them happen.
One easy way is to have a 3d environment generated from what the server knows is outside, the exact placement of the ships need not be shown, but if the servers knows for example, a fleet of 15 Maelstroms are sitting outside, it can just render 15 Mael's randomly outside that window.
Who knows what they'll end up doing, but i don't expect it any time soon.
Will be nice to see if undock is clear out a window though :P

Not having windows showing space would take a lot of..well "space feeling" away, so, yes, I guess it's safe to say you will see space from within a station.
But since Incarna will be on a seperate server, ther is little chance we will see "live" space and undock areas. For now, at least.

NO, everything in stations will be Mac based.

I wondered how long it would take someone to do that...

No, there will be no windows, the EVE engine doesn't support that. "Nuts!" |

No, there are no windows now, the EVE engine doesn't support that yet.
There, fixed that for you.
For details, Google "non sequitur".

Since CCP said there won't be windows and they won't put in a viewscreen of space there will be no windows or anything like that since CCP doesn't seem to value it.
In time they may revisit that, but given CCP's track record of adding things I wouldn't hold my breath, best to expect it won't happen and if it does yay surprise.

I believe CCP only said that windows will not be in captains quarters. They have not confirmed nor denied whether or not the actual public area will have windows.

If modders can place faux window views in single-player RPG (Elder Scrolls IV), then big MMOG programmers can.
They don't have to show an exact representation of what is going on outside. They already show a sort of window view on the login screen.
They just need to match the outside scenery with the inside views (planet, star color, random ship types, etc).

I remember CCP saying that it would be very difficult to have the station environs talk to TQ and pull grid information about what was happening outside. It's the same reason why your hanger doesn't have ships moving along the large corridor area you can see as a player undocks.
Which kinda sucks. It'd be nice to get some generic background animations going ya know? No it wouldn't add much to the game if anything beyond immersion and screen candy. Same for Incarna, if you can't get a live feed from the grid then some faction police or random ships flying around 'outside' when we look out the windows.
What's that team? BFF... little things do make a big difference in bringing a scene to life.

As far as I've read stations will have windows, you just can't look outside (for what that's worth). It's simply too much strain on the server to sync the station environment with the solar system. Especially in Jita.
I also read however that they're looking into making some kind of radar interface with the station environment so you can see who and what's outside, you just don't see the ships themselves.

I'd like to think that CCP will endeavor to put useful windows in station environments at some point, even if its just an 'on-grid' basis, or half a grid or similar. The information on ship speed/situation/direction/activity is all going to be translatable through their Carbon system eventually, from the way i understand it.
Keeping fingers crossed :) --

There are still definite performance costs to suddenly deciding to stream that information to many more clients than it used to be sent to, though.
Suddenly everyone inside Jita 4-4 is getting telemetry data on everyone right outside Jita 4-4. As far as the server is concerned that's almost the same hit as everyone actually being undocked outside the station.
Besides, if I have a nice view of outer space I don't want someone's 6 alts in obelisks blotting out my view anyway. It's such a long walk back to my ship to go bump them.
