Hello, i was wondering what your opinions are on using different weapon types, other than hybrid on gallante craft such as a battleship. Considering how crap the Hybrid weapons are compaired to others and also considering how lame the hybrid weapons bonus are on some of the battleships, would it be better to fit a different type of weapon? Thoughs please. cheers.

Some have been using projectiles and not caring about the turret bonus.

A fly Dominixes a lot. I use lasers with 1 LAR when running through level 4 missions, the long lasting ammo is great. For the Gallente epic arc where I need 2 LARS and explosive damage is nice to have, I use projectiles.

That was the type i was considering, the bonus from gallante for Hybrid weapons on the battleship i have does not seem to justify using them in the first place and i belive i would get better damage results from using projectile weapons, in effect cutting my losses with the poor bonuses.

Many Gallente ships, drone boats to be specific lack hybrid bonuses.
As a result you can fit them with anything really or go with a nos/nuet set up and get your damage entirely on drones.
Projectiles are often the best choice as they don't use cap and you can pick the damage type. Though I have seen a few savvy capsuleers add lasers to their Gallente ships.

does doing this make gallante ships bad for PvP? its a part of the game im looking forward to getting into, but i wont go there until im skill trained enough to stand half a chance, but your views on how gallante battleships...and indeed all other gallante ships fair in PvP, especially with non hybrid weapons. I know it all depends on who and what you are up against, but just a general opinion is good guidance for me.

At the moment it seems Gallente is lacking in both PVP and PVE capabilities. Mostly because they took a rather hefty nerf a while ago.
Minmatar are the kings of PVP at the moment, with Amarr and Caldari kind of tied for second. Gallente gets last though. Blasters still have the highest potential to dish out the most damage, however the extremely short range tied in with the slow gallente ships makes for a bad combination.
Unless you want to get really good with drones, I would advise staying away from Gallente. Caldari and Minmatar seem to have the upper hand at the moment.

Edited by: Elder Khain on 07/06/2011 22:43:13 Hybrid weapons rock ! but only in close range ! if not they are just sux. Use projectiles instead. they got better range, tracking rate, and also does not require capacitor.

In addition -projectile ammo is far less bulky, you don't need to reload as often and because of the big falloff bonuses you don't need to use long range ammo that much. -you can choose from 3 damage types instead of being stuck with thermal/kinetic
Really I don't know why the US Navy is wasting all that money developing a railgun, 20th century projectile weapons are clearly superior:P

I don't think hybrid is necessarily bad for having those shortcomings it's just a little fussy for solo work. You're likely talking about PvE though, and yeah there are definite frustrations there.
As far as PvP goes hell just pair up with someone who can tackle and warp a blaster boat onto the target's face to melt it. Problem solved.

With an attitude like that PVP is going to suck. Go buy a Tristan, a Thorax, a Vexor and start shooting at someone already. The best time to get into the PVP side of the game is right now. Whether right now is a day old noob for a 2 year noob.
At the moment Gallente ships are not the optimal ships for PVP. They have their uses and they add to gangs but they're not "the best." If you want to follow the fads start training for Minmatar battle cruisers and Caldari battle cruisers. Specifically the Drake and the Hurricane. _______

If by ****ty, you mean that the anti-matter rounds fired by a Gallente Railgun Uzi will just **** on everything with the resulting fallout being an extra layer of ****ting-on-everything-downwind goodness, then yes.
Seriously, what kind of survival rate would PBI have in a world of lasers and anti-matter rounds?
