I know rails are kinda sucky at the moment but has anyone ever used a rail tengu? If so what are your experiences with them?
Being mostly invested in Caldari and Gallente skills I'm pretty fluent with rails, as well as missiles. However I am starting to get involved in increasingly large fleet battles and I am starting to slowly and slowly see the effects of the long travel times of a missile. My missile skills are all at 5 so that isn't the problem.
So how does a rail gun Tengu handle? I know there are probably better ships for this but I am more familiar with the tengu than a lot of other ships. And I don't have time to train for them.
So yeah, you guys get the idea. How does a rail tengu handle?

Rails are basically poo.
You can get a half-decent blaster fit with a Tengu though. The optimal bonus is handy (as with the moa/eagle/ferox etc). ---------- Who, me? |

Edited by: Dirk Magnum on 08/06/2011 01:08:14 Eagle hits farther but Tengu hits harder. CBA to EFT warrior this again but it's about 218km vs 195km and 180 DPS vs 230 DPS for Eagle vs Tengu respectively. This is with the same 250km railgun w/ spike and the same module layout.
But, you can fit a Tengu to hit at 205km for 145 DPS -AND- fit a speed mod and some tank if you switch up the fitting a bit. Eagle doesn't have the system specs for that.
I don't need to point out how sub-optimal these sniper fits are for shooting anything other than frigates/destroyers that someone else has already tackled of course.

What's better, the long travel times of missiles, or the zero damage per second of railguns?

zero dmg railgus at least you can kill some pods with those :P btw nerf projectiles
