I'll keep this short:
1) Visuals: The new projectile turret models and animations as they gimball (sp?), as well as the multiple bursts of bullets per cycle are very cool. You're doinit very right, here.
but,
2) Pleasepleasepleasepleaseplease DO NOT change the sounds of the Medium (180mm, 220mm, and 425mm Autocannons, and 650/720mm Arty) Projectile turrets! These are by far and away the best-sounding guns in the game--the Dual 180mm Autocannon II is the game's best-sounding gun, full-stop--and it would be criminal to genericise them all so they all sound the same (and I must say, that sound that's on SiSi at the moment was cool at first, but gets a little grating after a while). At least keep the sound of the aforementioned Dual 180 II's. Please?

It would be nice IF (and maybe one can) choose (or mod) the client sounds to be what one would like... if so this could be a very very nice EVE mod.
Working with Drupal lately I am really getting into the modules concept, where one can plug in things - it would be nice if EVE took this course and allowed people to "plug-in" mods that changes appearance and such on just there client - say sounds for one. Like they did with the Jukebox - you can make your own playlists as an example.

ya that sound they are currently using is the sound for the current dual 425s on TQ
its cool on some guns but they really need their own sounds back :(

Ehm WHAT? The sound of the ACs is ok, but FAR from good. It feels as if you fire a machine gun you can hold in a hand, but not like a cannon that shoots multiple projectiles, bigger than a tank does in a second. Really, only because you compare the sound to the other (very bad) eve sounds doesnt make it a good sound. The whole sounds of eve should be recreated and every weapon should have its unique sound.

"Bad" compared to what? And they already do, for the most part--that's what I'm hoping they will preserve...In case you haven't noticed, EVE has been in some ways thoroughly genericised/dumbed down already in the last month or so...This is not a good thing, and neither is going further in that direction.
I'd rather have something flawed but unique than perfected but generic, and ultimately like any hundred other MMOGs out there. I mean, if I wanted that, then I could just go play those anytime I like, couldn't I?
Oh, and how can you not like the sound of a mix between an AK-47's evil big brother and a really big jackhammer pounding through steel overlaid with just a touch of giant speed drill? (What I think the Dual 180mm II's sound like, but that's strictly mho, of course...)

I really feel like CCP should spend a good amount of time (Not as if I know how much they spend currently) making all the sounds for the guns bad ass. Sound is SO FREAKING important, just as important as visuals, if not moreso (you hear the guns everytime you fire, you dont constantly stare at the models though) I remember upgrading from my 250mm rails to the 425's thinking the sound was going to be so much more awesome, only to be totally let down. And that has been this way since eve was released hahaha. We need more background music, and more/better turret sounds!

I think a lot of the new guns look too small... ships hundreds of meters long, only able to power, at best, 8 itty bitty guns hardly bigger then those of ships a tenth their size
CCP, while you're at it, please fix the MANY turret-placement glitches as well. Have a graphics dev sit down and for EVERY ship put all turrets on, one for one, and check if it looks alright or if some turrets would look better on a different place. Or if turretslots should be filled in a different order. It may sound stupid, but some glitches, like guns half disappearing into the model, are so obvious, I seriously doubt this has ever been properly done.
I know it's a bit of a pet peeve, but the Megathron is one of the clearest examples of the placements of the guns making no sense (and that hasn't changed at all with Incarna on SiSi).

well the 1400mm arty is by far the coolest turret sound in the game. still find it hard to grasp how big 1400mm really is, its like 5 feet.

I hope you do realize that some of those guns are over 15-25 meters long on the barrel. Megathron is a 1km long about and having guns unrealistically larger than they should be isnt a good way to go about it. This isnt the scaling up that we seen from a destroyer to a battleship in real navy where an 18incher gun is three times bigger than the standard 5 inch guns but fitted on a ship almost over half of its size. But the size difference between an eve frigate and a eve battleship is like 1/20ths of a difference between the two. Some of these battleship gun models are about half as big as a frigate. Okay so having played for 6 years now: - who cares about sound? I think most of us turn it off. There's never been a reason to have it on with all the sounds glitches, bugs etc. Rubber banding.
You will have in any given situation: Computer Speakers playing movies, music, perhaps outbound on voice comms. Headset - inbound voice, perhaps outbound voice and computer speakers doing music/movie above like me.
You will then have solitaire/hearts/EvePoker or be having the wife bicker in one ear, your dog passing gas in the other, and then a kid doing something dumb and drawing on a wall.
Multiple pets or multiple women, or multiple kids = direct square result of above. You also will have one corpmate who completely messes up his or her comm settings and is chewing on the cud while hot-mic'd.
CCP has other things to fix, and while I think their priority is completely out of touch to what reality is, at least they are trying.

Wrong. Just plain wrong.
Some people turn it off for these, and any number of other reasons. But a lot of us don't, and we use the sound to, you know...help us play and enjoy the damned game.

Edited by: Hyperforce99 on 11/06/2011 22:44:30 I recall sounds filling my speakers... however since the graphics overhaul the sound engine has gone to sh*t. The game right now has way to much falloff and for some reason I can't hear missile impacts sounds on ships even when only a few KM away from them. Where before I was able to hear muffle missile impacts from the other side of the grid no problem. --------------------------------------------- Somewhere beyond happyness and sadness, I need to calculate what creates my own madness o/ |

4 feet, 7.12 inches.
<RP-based theory-crafting>
That, plus the propellant-load needed to fling a shell that big and heavy up to ca. 100+km (T II Sniper-spec'ced Arty-Mael can do this easily) away at near-relativistic velocities (I'm assuming the gun would have some kind of secondary rail/coil assist along the barrel, it makes too much sense not to have it, even though, per the description, IIRC, the biggest arty guns in all three size-categories fire "rocket-assisted" shells)...
...Yeah, these shells would each be the size of small vans, at least, and probably weigh at least as much.
The gun in question to take a shell like that would likely be the size of a frigate (per PF, those are between the size of those commuter-planes for the tier two tacklers/interceptor-hulls, and about the size of a wide-body large airliner for the tier three combat/assault frigates), but you wouldn't need to have more than the barrel and the gimballing-mechanism on the outside hull. Breech, loading/firing mechanism, etc., would be inside.

Why oh why new turret effects but not NEW and improved sounds?? Why would you go with old sounds most of them sound pretty bad. I feel like if the turrets are getting a new overhaul so should their sound effects. If they were worse so be it but new and improved sounds should be somewhere on the horizon.

Explosions in eve have looked crap since graphics update, the old style ones were bigger, and better. These days ur lucky if u see an explosion at all, since it usualy bugs and the ship just * vanishes*...

NEW SOUND EFFECTS FOR EVERYTHING PLEASE.
I don't mind stargates but EVE needs a major sound overhaul. also let us map our own sounds especially the SH/AR/STRUCTURE warnings, those suck.. let us map things how its done like the jukebox (ANY FORMAT BTW don't be lame and say .WAV only). now this would really make ppl happy. It's been asked for.
Also do something different I'm numb to the "warp drive active" thing.
