Edited by: Murtal Liven on 10/06/2011 03:48:45 Edited by: Murtal Liven on 10/06/2011 03:44:22 About a month ago I recruited three players named SomeoneStrange, Thrashgall, and Mattikus Indaris. They seemed to be great, upstanding members and we had some good laughs on vent. They had been granted limited roles and had shown responsibility by running a PvP tournament for my corp.
Two days ago, they ganked two corpmates, one in a Retriever, the other in a Vargur, and stole a whopping (sarcasm) 200km3 worth of tech 1 mods from our public hangar, along with maybe 60m from the wallets they had access to.
So this thread is for three reasons,
1. You guys are certainly pro corp thiefs! A whole month to gank two ships and steal 150m. /claps
2. Just a warning for any future corps thinking of recruiting them and running their names through the forums.
3. I sincerely liked these guys, or at least the personalities they put on. My question to the people of C&P is, why do people do this? I play eve to make friends, not isk. I would rather give money away to friends because they lost a ship than steal money from them. If it was for tears or the lulz, unless this thread is considered tears we were more disappointed they would pull some **** like this than panicked and whining all our money was gone. Everything they stole or killed (including the Vargur) has been/will be replaced inside a week.

This thread is tears, unfortunately. I'm not a griefer, but I recognize two things about your post:
Quote: 1. You guys are certainly pro corp thiefs! A whole month to gank two ships and steal 150m. /claps
This is a typical "carebear ressponse" to being griefed. You (whether truth or not) pretend like the loss means nothing to you. They don't care, they probably don't even care about the ISK. The fact that they denied you something, no matter how small, and your stupidity, real or percieved, assisted them with it.
The fact that you made this thread at all shows that you are bothered, and has the added side effect of making them slightly more famous, too. They have proof that it bothered you somewhat, or else you would not have even made this thread. The best way to counter griefers is to completely ignore them and continue on like nothing happened. Just like elementary school, a bully thrives on the reactions he gets from victims, as they provide feelings of power, superiority, or validation.

Ahh, I see. I was hoping it wouldn't come out as appearing to be tears, but I see how this could be a typical carebear reaction. I'm not mad about the ISK loss, I'm saddened and disappointed people would sell friendships for tears, lulz, and small amounts of money.

The main point of this thread was to warn future recruiters that these guys are not to be trusted, checking the forums has helped me find potential griefers in the past so I wanted to forward the favor.

Yeah, C&P certainly is a double-edged sword in that regard.
Still, you posted an alert thread about the characters, which is more effort than a lot of other victim corps take.

Edited by: Talia Yvormes on 10/06/2011 06:57:51 3: Because they're friends with each other. A lot of people don't play this to get E-buddies, they play for ISK so they can do more PvP with people they trust and like. Alt. they are flat out bored. They probably had a good laugh about it and most likely they did not even add you to their buddy list.
All in all many EVE players do not play to befriend everyone they see and in reality a vargur kill and some small bits of ISK is better then nothing.

Spot on unfortunately. You can usually tell by the ridiculous bios players write for themselves: I'm cool, tough, clever, gonna getcha... bla bla bla
Still, there are ways to enjoy this game and avoid all of that.

It's not for ISK ... you can make far, far more money peacefully grinding on alts than on any of these elaborate corp heists. They do it for 'tears', deriving satisfaction from their victims getting upset.
If you find this motivation hard to understand, you are not alone. Most people have no desire to see other people get upset over their actions, in a game or otherwise. It's only a minority with that personality type.

I know those guys ingame... had a good few wars. They started off as a mining corp before they learn the harsh reality of being a lone mining corp. They lost alot in those wars but it was fun.
Going to forward this link to them so they can collect on the tears they farmed.

I hope we have learned a valuable lesson today. No one can be trusted in EVE. So you should only throw out what you can lose and pray you get back more. I suppose they are roosters for doing this. But then again, I have seen a far worse chain of events.
lucky you weren't a WH corp etc. "Hey mutually interested corp who wants my corps WH space. Ill help you scan it out :D."

Confirming this was a targeted corp heist, although it took longer than we had planned.
Strange, Thrash and Matt will be happy to know they got a forum thread. I'll pass it along.
The OP fails to mention that he hired 3 pilots with the corp "Total Grief" in their employment history.....
Learn from your mistakes buddy, and actually search people. If I didn't love them so much, I sure as hell wouldn't hire them.
Also, it's not about the isk, it's about the tears. Thanks for providing both though. We each bought shiny new ships with your isk.

I was thinking that OP was under reporting the amount of the theft, givin the tears, but since you have not claimed otherwise, it seems you are the worst scammers ever. What a small insignificant take for a months work

Oh Murtal. We stole 139 mil from your corporate wallet - not 60 mil. On top of that, the loot and ships we stole from your hangar came out to a bit over a hundred mil. Not a huge haul, I know - but its absolutely hilarious that you're trying to downplay it here.
I suppose I owe you some thanks however - this is the first forum post chock full of carebear tears for Total Grief - and we'll certainly make sure that it isn't the last.

Not going to lie, we were a little disappointed with the take as well. We finally decided that there wasn't as much to take/kill as we had hoped, so we cut our losses. Also, I can promise you that the take was greater than being reported.
Win some, lose some.

I would, without hesitation. Banana Boat is like one of my most favorite songs, ever.
How long until Hallmark releases "Congratulations on Your First Corp Theft!" cards for "him and her"? Let's face it: when one of these things happen, there's always one party that gets mildly ****ed, and another that experiences an unjustified and temporary ego boost.
We could pretty much use them like emoticons.

Not quite I'm afraid. We actually stole about 75% of their corporate wallet - the other 25% we could view, but didn't have access to steal.
We may have only stolen pens from the bank - but this particular bank only stored pens and toothpicks in its vault.

Heh. So you broke into the Pen Bank and were all like "Dang, they only have pens!" But it still took you a month to steal them. Must have been one heluva toothpick vault they had.

I've played Eve with quite a few really cool people. I cannot agree that most Eve players are mean or stupid. The kind and intelligent folk are just quieter and get noticed less.

If I were a professional thief, whose entire income came from robbing corps blind, this would indeed be quite sad. Thankfully, it's more of a hobby for me. As it is though, I got what I wanted - Carebear tears, and over a Billion ISK in damages done overnight with zero losses. |
