Greetings EVE community,
This is an idea that has been floating around on my back burner since Apocrypha. I think I have this at a point where it is presentable. Please let me know what you think.
The original concept was a sub-capital ship that is able to travel with fleets and fill some of the unique roles of carriers. This has evolved into a T2 variant of the Orca which is capable of deploying limited numbers of fighters, providing gang-link bonuses, and offering small corprate hanger and ship maintenance resources.
This ship is NOT intended to be cyno-jump capable, nor is it meant to serve a logistics role.
My biggest concern is that I've made the drone bay too small. I decided to err on the side of caution. Also, I'm not familiar enough with T2 production to make the manufacturing requirements.
CCP, if you use this idea show me a little love. I'd consider one free hull and a 3-run bpc a fair exchange for all intellectual property rights. I'd be willing to sign legal documents to that effect.
SHIP TYPE Kraken
MARKET GROUP Capital Ships -> Capital Escort Ships -> Syndicate
DESCRIPTION Hull: Orca Class Role: Escort Carrier
Fearing a major Sansha incursion, the Syndicate has begun developing several means to project capital power within a cyno-jammed system. The first result from their R&D department is the kraken-class escort carrier. Essentially a heavily overhauled orca, the kraken is a fleet support ship capable of deploying small numbers of fighters while retaining its ability to travel by stargate. Additionally, many of the orca's industrial-support capabilities have been repurposed to give the kraken a viable presence on the battlefield.
Developer: The Syndicate
Role Bonus: 99% reduction in CPU need for Warfare Link modules Can use 3 gang link modules simultaneously 250% bonus to tractor beam range 100% bonus to tractor beam velocity 500% bonus to ship scanner range 200% bonus to Fighter control range
Escort Carrier Skill Bonus 10% bonus to drone capacity per level 3% bonus to effectiveness of warfare gang links per level

I think not.
"The Orca was developed as a joint venture between Outer Ring Excavations and Deep Core Mining Inc as a vessel to help meet the demands of New Eden's industry and provide a flexible platform from which mining operations can be more easily managed.
The Orca uses much of the technology developed by ORE for the Rorqual and integrated with the latest advancements from Deep Core Mining research division has developed a vessel which offers a diverse role to all sizes of operations and needs."
Look at who developed the orca class. It s an industry type calss vessel from scratch. A design like the Kraken would need it s own from the ground-up design.

Why?
Hmmm... is this supposed to be a BS sized CS that brings along ship replacements for inty/dictor pilots?
That's what it looks like.... kind of interesting idea, although it needs a lot of tweaking.
P.S.: I highly doubt you can claim intellectual ownership when its based on CCP's basic ship design/universe, but perhaps you were trying to be funny...

Well you've shown the rough idea for it, but so far have given no good reason whatsoever why EVE needs this abombination. _________________________________

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the only industry-specific traits of the orca are a large cargo hold for ore and mining gang links. Is it really that much of a stretch to believe that the gank link type could be changed? Or that the ore hold could be cleared out to hold fighters while cutting out parts of the structure to make them deployable?

The intent is both a resupply ship and a gank-link specialist that can contribute to the fight from safety. Whether "safety" means from a safespot or at range on the battlefield would be up to the pilot.
Additionally, it would be nice to see a use for fighters that didn't require large fleet battles. Carriers focus on remote repairs a lot these days, while SC focus on fighter bombers. The fighter is becoming an afterthought.
Anything else folks?

This seems like it would be an enjoyable class to play. It would make fighters more small gang viable which would change the way they are fought. Keep up the good work.

couple things, one, the orca is an ORE ship with gallente roots; and is being rebuilt by the syndicate, also with gallente roots. I would guess this ship would utilize an armor tank rather than a shield tank. two, I think it would be more suited to have 10-15 heavy drones with another wave available in the drone bay than using fighters. unfortunately if this were to happen I see it being turned into a highsec capable super mission runner. but I feel that a support carrier would be more likely to have a large swarm of small drones than a small swarm of large drones.
