I can't find my favorite quote. Does anyone know what it is or info to look it up. I can't remember. 8) It has to do with calling liberty a storm. Or the storms of liberty. It's from the American revolution period or just after. I generally take it as the reality of society needing to be out of oppression or in this case as far in the opposite and the meaning of free speech in the first amendment and a potential practicality in it's defense however you take what I just said(if this helps or springs anything to mind). Either way I can't find the quote and can't remember what it was from or who said it. I know it's known there are corps that use it as their basis or name reference. And with the slightly potential or viewed political basis of the storyline or interest in general in this game I figured someone would know. 8)

Quote: The spirit of resistance to government is so valuable on certain occasions, that I wish it to be always kept alive. It will often be exercised when wrong, but better so than not to be exercised at all. I like a little rebellion now and then. It is like a storm in the atmosphere. Thomas Jefferson, letter to Abigail Adams, February 22, 1787
This it? and further more why do i even need a sig? |

Edit: http://www.let.rug.nl/usa/P/tj3/writings/brf/jefl55.htm possibly.. But I'm not sure. It might be from ben franklin or someone like payne. Though this could be it. I thought I'd be more certain when I saw it.

Jefferson? search for "storms of liberty"
Quote:
But shall we on this account forego any advantage which we are fitted to enjoy? Shall we put in practice the horrid system of the detestable Robespierre? Shall we make war upon science and its professors? Shall we destroy the arts useful as well as pleasurable? Shall we make knowledge a crime, ignorance a gratification? Shall we lay in ruins our towns and deform the face of our fields? Shall we enchain the human mind and blunt all its energies under the withering influences of privation and the benumbing strokes of terror? Shall we substitute the unmingled misery of a gloomy and destructive despotism to the alternate sunshine and storms of liberty?
It's a verbose version of Franklin's a little liberty for a little security quote.

Edited by: Avrien on 10/06/2011 19:50:18 Edited by: Avrien on 10/06/2011 19:45:48 I think I remember some of it. Before the storm part(I think.) it is referencing people preferring calm or flat existence. Something like that. And rebutting eventually with a storm reference as being the one he preferred! which sounds sort of franklin like to me but it might have been a different person. Was that one of the ones you posted. I didn't find the last franklin quote in the actual document. Can't remember enough to find anything but actual storm references in a search either. I think my google is defunked. 8)

Pretty sure it was genuine. I already knew of it and I was probably looking up the quote on multiple sites and the real documents it came from. 8)
Edit: another good qoute. not the one but it's good. 8) Without Freedom of Thought there can be no such Thing as Wisdom; and no such Thing as Public Liberty, without Freedom of Speech. Benjamin Franklin, writing as Silence Dogood, No. 8, 1722

Gold.
I got the joke completely. It wasn't complicated. A Bill of Rights is what the people are entitled to against every government, and what no just government should refuse, or rest on inference.Thomas Jefferson
