EVEGuru.com
EVEGuru.com is now up for beta testing and comments. Below, you'll find a brief description of what EVEGuru is and how it works.
EVEGuru.com is a website listing/search engine built specifically for the EVE-Online community. EVEGuru uses a web-based database to display links, thumbnails, rss feeds, descriptions and other information about EVE-related websites. A web crawling robot (EVEGuru Bot) is also used to scan the web for new EVE-related websites and to periodically validate those in the database.
Currently, there are over 800 verified EVE-related websites in a searchable database with over 300 more awaiting validation.
EVEGuru is also user-maintained. Website owners can add their website to the EVEGuru database by filling out a brief form. Owners of websites currently listed on EVEGuru will also be able to modify and update their listings whenever they desire. All additions and modifications are checked manually before being added or updated.
Please keep in mind while viewing this site that it's still being assembled and some features may not work as intended/expected. Furthermore, our web crawling bot was unable to accurately extract proper titles and descriptions for some websites and they may appear to be a bit odd or nonexistent. As we go through the database manually and as website owners add their listings, the database will take on a much more solid appearance.
This is a public beta test!

Really? Well, let me explain how Google AdSence works. Google AdSence knows who you are. It follows your browsing habits. It then tailors ads to you based on those habits. If you see ads for isk sellers then it's because Google has determined that you like them and is therefore giving you more isk seller ads. I personally don't get those ads. And I can tell you that none of the private ads are from isk sellers.
However, if you give me a list of isk seller websites, I can add it to the blocked sites list and their ads won't appear.
As far as the horrible appearance, I'm going to totally ignore that comment since it's not 'constructive' criticism. I'm trying to keep the HTML fast, simple and usable by the IGB. If you want to tell me how to improve it, I'm all ears.

colors dont work together, background image breaks readability, no optical structure marks, nothing.
background images like the one your using are horrible, guess why almost no professional side does that.
also, there is still isk seller adverts on it.

Not sure where you're seeing them. If it's the text ads, I've gone through those. If it's the big graphic ad, I don't see any isk sellers there.
Gimme the URL's and I'll be happy to block them.

Hi,
The idea is good but the site could really use a lot of work unfortunately.
- 3 Places for Ads? Seriously? I shouldn't need to scroll down to see the last 10 searches. Correction, 4 ad spots.
- Your CSS...what the...I don't understand what you are doing... Why is it loaded then loaded again and then manual CSS entries.
- border="0" is your friend
- Make the header area smaller. If you can put your entire hand within the width of the header and that's all you see it's way too big.
- If I click on listings the screenshot/thumbnails are pointless. You can't see anything so it's a garbled text picture.
- Every small little picture of I dono what that is. A rock? A planet? Well what ever it is, if you click on that instead of what it is next to, you get pushed to the "Add a Website" instead of the link. People like myself do like clicking pictures/icons next to links instead of the links themselves.
- Some of those rock icons like Home and Add a Listing have a line through them while the others don't. However when you hover over them the line goes away.
Now I wish you the best of luck here but it needs a lot more effort and polish.

A few thoughts:
- Performance: Use browser caching. Your site has a lot of images, try make a sprite. Also your png images do not look like they are optimized a lot. Try making them smaller in file size.
- The green links are very agressive. Use a color that fits better to the gray and black. Maybe a dark red, a light gray or something.
- Space is quite limited in IGB, so I would suggest to put the logo, the searchbar and the add below into one bar, to move everything up a bit.
- The related links are on the bottom of a very long list. Make a box on the right for them
- The single entries are too large. As I said before, space is limited in IGB, so do not waste any.
I for one find the project very interessting. Needs a little polishing though, but looks promising. I love Eve, web apps and chinese food!

Edited by: Xaroth Brook on 14/06/2011 23:58:46 add a 'padding: 0px;' to the tds you use to build the rounded edges... on firefox I get 'borders' between the cells making it look silly. also: 'clip: rect(auto, auto, auto, auto);' .. as per http://www.w3schools.com/CSS/pr_pos_clip.asp you can see that 'auto' is already the default.. it's silly to redefine the default.. also I've had mixed results with the clip property, I'd recommend not using it at all (as you shouldn't even need it)
also your search thing.. you use a table inside a table.. that's a bit silly... instead of using a 3x3 table for the corners, use a 5x5 table or something for the content (or in this case a 5x7 could work) .. this allows you to keep the fixed-width searchbar automagically resizing inside a table.. this saves browsers having to calculate things twice, which helps load pages faster.
menu on the right hand side.. you use several tables inside a table and using those tables to act as a list... what's wrong with using <UL><LI></LI></UL> .. it's made for the thing you're trying to do.. see http://www.w3schools.com/CSS/css_list.asp for pointers on using custom list-style images... this should give sane html output and much nicer styling.
