Devs should check this out ... Shores of Hazeron some calls it Minecraft in space, others call its mechanics future of space games, you decide. This game still too different from eve, its more of 4X online strategy, with a player avatar. Being a loyal player of eve-online since 2004 i still hope to see some features like bridge control on the ships itc. Short story short: When I played: I lost the knife, dropped from orbit naked (there was a bug that put my respawn outside the atmosphere), took some predators down with my bare claws, built a flag primarily out of my own skin (PCs leave harvest-able corpses), and got started. Threw up mines and farms, manually harvested and sold food to get my people to stop starving before they could get the harvest in, worked the economy up from stone hammers to electronics and rockets. Built a helicopter. (It's terrible, I don't recommend it unless they've improved it.) Flew it over the ocean to another land mass, built another city, built a port so that they could exchange goods. Built a space rocket and a space suit. Flew it sub-orbital and threw up another city, then accidentally jumped out while flying home. It probably got deleted at some point, but it may have hit the speed of light first. Built another space rocket, took it prospecting in the outer system. Nearly froze myself in a cryogenic ocean. Finally found what I was looking for on a gas giant moon: two minerals respectively found on airless and dark worlds. The secrets to reactionless flight and wormhole travel. Built a mining colony, got it running. PS: could be moved to ideas section if ccp stuff think so.

Edited by: Constantinus Maximus on 14/06/2011 07:43:03 It's a damn good start.
As a consequence of them starting from avatars standing on a planet, all the "immersion" stuff is just native instead of added mini-games. Eve was never really "all round sci-fi sim", that is a new catch-cry around here. Eve was never really talked about in this way until recently.
With SoH, "atmospheric flight" for example isn't something added to another game and claimed as part of the main game. It's just a matter of you needing to fly through an atomsphere to get into space. 1st person combat is the same, boarding crews and a bunch of features Eve couldn't even dream of including.
Amazing that these few guys can code so much while CCP comes up with turrent animation or another piece of eyecandy.
That being said the game is a little flawed in the actual "game design" and needs to reach critical mass before full-scale warfare evolves to include whole fleets with towed starports etc. Currently you "win" by creating alts and "lose" by dying without alts, due to empire respawn point end-game gap.
If CCP ever truely wanted a sci-fi "sim" then they needed a starting point like SoH. To become a sci-fi "sim" now CCP only has the option of 3rd party and tacted on mini-games like DUST and PI.

Good odds on this bet.
The only 10 years where Eve can get a better starting point are the 10 years that have already past. They did have a good spaceship game for a few years though.

I'll bet 10bn it will. Shake?
Of course if it doesn't 10bn isk is going to be rather meaningless, you might as well just pay me now.
I think in 10 years we might have most of the ship models updated and be starting on updating them again to try bring them up to date again. I think we might have got some better mission content by then, but probably not by much. We'll have stations to walk around in rather than just captains quaters. And people will still be asking for AFs and railguns to be fixed, Falcons to be nerfed (though we might see ECM changes before then) and be complaining about PLEX prices.

Yeh, but Infinity team posted in the end of 2010 that they rather focus on making game engine ready to be sold rather then game ...

no, it make me quite happy. Can you imagine trying to have a fight with even 10 people in the same solar system with that engine? Thank you EVE, i <3 you -------------------------------------------------

We are talking not about technical side of space combat using particular (Infinity) game engine, but about features in Shores of Hazeron and Infinity games we are hoping to see someday in eve, or at least some eve progression in this terms ...

I have played Shores of Hazeron and I think the same problems for infinity go for SoH. That engine is unstable, the game is nearly unplayable, and has been being worked on for years and years. I would be shocked if you could ever have a good looking (looks aren't everything), playable game with a single shard server that operated like that. Being able to fly to a planet and such, i just can't see that being a technical option with the kind of data transmission that we have or will have for a great deal of time. Nice idea in principle, but I would be extremely worried about the implementation. -------------------------------------------------
