Edited by: Jaradakar on 16/06/2011 02:02:04 I'm not sure if the EVE developers have played World of Tanks. I can tell you right now that I'm enjoying it immensely and I'm preparing to leave EVE for good as WoT has the play experience I wish I could have in EVE.
Build and customize my space ships and then go out and do tactical battles. After the battles end, tweak how I've customized my ship (ask the questions of, "was it my tactics or how I built my ship" but I'm not penalized for actually TESTING things. Sure my ship might have been blown up, sure I paid a minor cost to repair it -- but in most cases the damage I did or role I fulfilled paid me more than it cost me.
No more having to spend hours to rebuild a ship (Hint: Running around pricing out good prices or trying to find components for hours is NOT fun). All it is super tedious spawn times!
Another hint. Players like to collect things and once they have them, they don't want to loose them. EVE's harsh combat penalty is just that. I know lots of players like the current system, I'd like to suggest that more of them would like it if you made changes.
In short, give players a way to have battles big or small in EVE without risk. If you need to isolate it to a combat simulation that's fine. It would let Vets and noobs practice and learn combat without risk. I know it would give some players satisfaction if I could log in and just do some cool combat. Join a fleet and fight over and over...
I hope the devs might consider this. If they do I'll consider coming back. If not good luck in the future.

I think everyone except you likes the risk element to EVE. Remove the risk and I could see EVE becoming pretty boring...

I'd like to suggest that you are a) playing the wrong game and b) playing it incorrectly. When I kill someone, I like them to feel the loss, and if you choose to spend hours running around trying to find the absolute lowest price for everything, you are doing it wrong and/or too poor to be PvPing at the level you have chosen.
What you are experiencing right now is feeling the loss. Someone out there is reading your post and feeling very, very smug. So the difference between eve and world of tanks sounds like eve favors the victor. By your account, in WoT, the winner gets no satisfaction from winning, but the loser doesn't feel so bad. In eve, its the other way round, and thats how we like it.

Eve also has almost exactly what you describe, have you ever heard of Singularity the test server Jaradakar.
Items are seeded in the market at numerous stations a 100 isk. You blow up your insurance covers the loss and then some.
All you need to do is install the singularity client and you can have eve without risk, of course nothing is permanent there as every and then they do a mirror from Tranquility but it is basically what you are describing.

The thread title caught my eye b/c I too have been playing WoT. Having said that all the reasons in the OP are garbage. Others have said why better then I can.
Let me whisper in your ears though why I find so many other Eve players in World of Tanks: You can log on and get PvP in under 10 minutes.
I have two accounts with Eve. I log on, set training and log off. I've been doing that since January, after having played the game since the first half of '07. Quite simply I'm waiting for something to happen. Anything to happen. W/o ranting - supercarriers, faction warfare,low-sec hybrids, Dominion, assault ships, dramiel,.... shall I go on?
I will harp on faction warfare a little bit. When it rolled out you could log on and find a fight within minutes. It's been completely neglected and that's a shame. Low-sec could be a small group/solo PvP zone if they gave it even a little bit of attention. With WoT you can get easy access PvP. In nullsec the average fleet fight can be around 4 hours. And is decided by who has the most supercarriers. Anyways, starting to rant despite myself - those are my thoughts.

Go to the test server it is exactly what you are looking for. ______ Hello WoW players. Look at your toon, now back to me. Sadly it isn't me, but if it wasn't simplistic pre scripted linear mono dimensional game you could look like me. I'm in a Paladin |

Edited by: Jaradakar on 16/06/2011 18:02:04 Edited by: Jaradakar on 16/06/2011 18:01:16 Everyone is resistant to change, hence all the responses of negativity is expected.
Is everyone so blind to see an answer such as, "you can have it on a test server" is actually a correct answer? It's a very poor game design if the only place they offer instant satisfaction is not actually in the game!
I'm not arguing that there should be no death penalty. Death does need to have meaning. I just think that EvE would be far more fun if the current model was reduced a bit. Having insurance cover modules (or a portion of, would be a great start). But I digress, that is topic for another time...
The topic I at hand is about giving players an outlet for instant satisfaction without risk (or lesser amount of risk), as it would be a virtual simulation. Look at any modern military. Do you think they don't have training grounds? Places to practice warfare with little or no risk. What military in today's world would not provide such training or options? None. Why does EVE lack this?
What is everyone afraid of? If you want the risk, continue playing EVE how you do. No one would be forcing you to use a combat simulator if they added one.
But... for everyone else out there who wanted to, guess what? They'd be able to. I'd love to have 5v5 battles or 10v10 battles with little to no risk with instant queues! Battles setup so it's guaranteed to be even teams at the start. I could log in pick a ship, mod it out and then test it out before trying it out in the real world. Hell it would let me learn how to fly ships better without less risk.
Why does this only happen for a select few via the Alliance Tournaments? Why can't I log on to EVE every night and have a tournament of my own?
Sure lots who have responded poo poo this idea. I guaranteed there are many users (some who have left eve, or have not even tried eve) who would love this option. More options equate to larger install base. You want to play eve your way, that's fine, I'm not wanting to disrupt that. I'm wanting more options. Expand your mind, don't be narrow sighted and only look at the old ways are the only ways.

No, you just do not like the response.
Actually played WoT for quite a while. Nice for a break now and again. But it is essentially a grind, and has no real risk of loss or gain.

You're not going to win this argument. Risk is an inherent aspect of Eve.
Now if you wanted to complain about cruising low sec for hours w/o finding a fight.... or nullsec being supercarriers online, or empire mission running being soul crushing... you'd have a legitimite complaint.

Without berating you:
Option 1: Use the singularity server (as it doesnt use TQs isk, and everything costs only 100isk). test your fits.
Option 2: Join a corp and practice PVPing with other people. ur allowed to shoot ur own corp members anywhere. Fight to low armor or structure and then stop shooting each other. |

not really, I smell a newer player to WoT who hasn't had matcmmaker screw him over 7 ways to sunday yet lol. WoT has the supercarrier effect. its called being a tier 4 tank who jsut pulled a match with nothing but t7 and above tanks and arty lol. Its not so much you find pvp...as you find new ways to commit suicide in the most useful and fun way possible.

it gets more eve-like later on I hear (still in mid tiers in that game myself).
the top tier tanks at 9 and 10...expensive to fix, and kept fed in ammo. OP gets a bad string of luck and he'll be doing the WoT version of ratting real quick lol. Hop in lower tier tanks and grind them credits.

ya, it gets really expensive in later tiers. and again, still something that happens in WoW, the better your armor the more it costs to make all shiny again.

Edited by: Furb Killer on 17/06/2011 08:54:26 So if test server already does this, then I see no reason to not also implement this on TQ. Wouldnt mind having access to ~good fites~ without roaming for 5 hours and then blobbing the opponent or being blobbed.
Although while personally I am very much in favour of a combat simulator, I do think losses should matter, so yes for matchmaking imo, no for riskfree. (Simply, ship lost in simulation, ship lost in your hangar).

5v5/10v10 with instaqueue... WoW much?
A Tournament of your own? Sure, why not, it is perfectly possible, and you can host your own Tournament every time of the day, with your own rules.
As has been suggested multiple times, if you want to testrun some stuff, head over to the TESTserver... <= see the caps part
Also, the replies were not poo poo, they were actually helpfull replies.
Also Also, no one above me is narrow sighted and only look at the old ways... EVE is desigend to be harsh, and is not a game made for the "Instant Satisfaction" player, so I fear this game might not be for you.
There are plenty of other games around that cater to the "Instant Satisfaction" player, this is not one. If you happen to leave, please mind the door on your way out, and don't forget to put all your belongings in the offerings tray.
Kthxbye!

A battleground style PvP system would help, roaming for hours through empty systems, to just gank some unlucky target that could not get away in time, is certainly boring.
Before you start to flame, I did not write it should be risk free and therefore on the test server.

It does say so in the OP... twice.
Hence, the suggestion of the testserver, where you can build practicefits, get some combat, and evaluate yourself. Just get a gang of likeminded players together, get on TS/Vent/Mumble/Skyp, and have a go at it. A foe without honour, is a foe already beaten. |
