Just started playing 3 days ago. Got through the crash course and the other training quests at the academy. Now, I'm flying aimlessly around space without anything to to. No new quests.
But there's one thing that bothers me most - i have yet to see another player in this game. Sure, there are some in the chat, but thats it. I have not yet encountered another player in space.
So, is eve a mmo or is it a solo game?

Fly to Jita :)
It is an mmo, but you can play it solo if you wish. You want to look for a nice corporation. ----- Malevolence. is recruiting. Dive into the world of 0.0 !

Silly noob question - Jita seems to be caldari state territory. I'm amarr. Should I even be heading up there?
Im happy flying solo for now, but might find myself a coorporation in time. The learning-curve of this game is STEEP and im still struggling to get my head around the basics of it.

Sisters of what? I finished the career quests and thats about it. After that the quest led me to a caldari station. Didnt think to look for further quests here as it was the wrong faction.

Jita is the most crowded system in EVE, the main trade hub of the galaxy. Usually 1000 people online there at the very least. The only star system (I know of) to have a dedicated node. The Sister of EVE Epic arc of missions is intended to teach basic skills.
You can start it by going to Corporation: Sisters of EVE Agent: Sister Alitura Agent Level: 1 Location: Arnon IX - Moon 3 - Sisters of Eve Bureau
The mission chain will take you all over the galaxy and become steadily harder. Expect to die a few times learning how not die ----- Malevolence. is recruiting. Dive into the world of 0.0 !

Edited by: Maeve Trinity on 16/06/2011 21:55:29 Your tutorial agent should have given you instructions to head to the nearest system with a Sisters of Eve agent to get you started on that chain. SOE (Sisters of Eve) is one of the best factions to raise standing with, as at the same time it also raises your standing with all 4 of the major factions (Amarr, Caldari, Gallente, Minmatar).
There is no harm running missions for other factions such as Amarr or Gallente... as long as you are not running kill missions where you might kill NPCs of one of the main factions. You can always reject those missions offered. But it is always a good idea to stick to one faction at first. ;) Most would recommend SOE methinks.
Also... you may well have encountered other players in space... particularly around the stations and jump gates. On your display they would show as little squares. You wont necessarily see the ships unless you zoom in, as the newb ships are so tiny!
Feel free to add me to your contacts, I'd be glad to answer any random questions you might have in game! :)
Hope this helps a little!
And welcome to EVE!

So far you're a neutral entity in EVE, no NPC faction in highsec (that's security status 0.5 to 1.0) will attack you as long as you don't provoke them. Players are another matter, they can't legally attack you in highsec but if you look like you're carrying something expensive or flying a fancy ship, they might do it just for "teh lolz".
Basically, stay in highsec and you should be relatively safe.
And chances are you've flown past at least a few hundred other people so far but haven't noticed them. I suggest you either ask a lot of questions in your NPC corp chat or join a player corp, they'll give you a lot of advice and, if you're lucky, some free stuff! (No begging though)
Feel free to mail me if you have any questions.

Amarr and Caldari are allies. That said, your race/faction doesn't mean a lot in most gameplay mechanics. You can easiliy fly into Minmatar (lore wise your arch enemy) territory and even their agents will smile at you and give you missions.
Originally by: Delorable Sparkling So, is eve a mmo or is it a solo game?
It's a mmo. The most confusing thing is that there's hardly any PvE multiplayer content though.
Originally by: Leetha Layne SO you have finished the Sisters of EVE mission arc?
The Sisters arc gets you some lore and lets you fly around through lots and lots of space and at the end of it you'll have a few million more ISK. Most missions are easy but there's a few missions in between that are really hard for a new player though (what I also think is that it gets you a lot of standings that you don't really want).
As a new player you're still quite weak and only time will make you stronger as your skillpoints will slowly accumulate over time. You can mine a bit to get some ISK (I wouldn't advise to train a lot of mining skills as it's a bit of a low income dead end street, income wise, unless you really like it, income isn't everything).
You can also do the starter missions for the other two Amarr (or any other faction's) starter corporations and get more rewards and ships. You could slowly start to do some missions but some L1 are still really hard for a new pilot.

Troll? In case you are not a troll: Most of the ships you see flying around are piloted by players. Everything that has square brackets on the overview is human everything that has a + bracket is NPC.

EVE Online is a sandbox MMO, which means there is no linear path of progression like in the "theme park" MMOs. You do what you want to do whenever you do it.
It's a harsh, cold universe where people will kill and betray you and no happy pink bunnies will come to your rescue. Ever. With that said, many pilots are here to help and guide you as well so don't be afraid to ask questions.
And for God's sake, don't call it "quests". They're missions.

Sadly, but true more and more pink bunnies (aka GMs) will help you with pitty problems.
Nowadays you can petition and get the 'accidentally' reprocessed items back *sigh*

Hit the Help button, then hit show career agents, they will give you 'starter quests(missions)' do those.
The starter systems where the career agents are found are are full of other new players, exchanging tips and chatting, join in with them.
Once completed they will THEN refer you to the SOE agent for the Epic Arc.

Odds are that you have seen plenty of players flying around but you are just not paying attention. Also, this game is not a kiddy WoW that holds your hand and directs your every movement. You make the game. I would suggest you utilize google and evewiki before you start trying to form an opinion based on a severe lack of knowledge.

Probably not as big a concern for a new player, but Sister's Missions DO NOT raise standings with ALL factions - in fact, it will lower your Amarr/Caldari standing.
At least according to my Standings charts: nullhttp://www.eve-wiki.net/index.php?title=Standings#Standing_Relationships
Haven't done any in awhile, but I do have an 8.0+ standing with Sister's, and it crapped my Amarr/Caldari standings (I am just slightly negative with both last I looked)

Yeah n00b. Before you form an impression of this game, try using these out of game resources to do some research first ...
IMO EVE needs a little more hand-holding and newbie-accessible group content. Of course it shouldn't direct your every moment, but EVE offers many paths, not all of which are all that good for newbies. Clearly presenting some of the better options to new players and giving a bit of a push would probably go a long way towards helping them maintain interest long enough to form coherent, accessible goals in a more independent fashion. If these options involve profitably interacting with other players (preferably with better results than what one could achieve solo), all the better.
From what I recall, the newbie tutorials don't really do a great job of directing you towards constructively interacting with fellow players other than vaguely suggesting that you should try playing with other people and consider joining a player corporation. Hopefully, the Incarna NPE and corp recruitment tools being implemented improve this aspect of the game somewhat.
Out of game resources are helpful, but shouldn't be a virtual necessity when it comes to finding your way during your first few weeks in game.

Is this New Players Q&A? What level of knowledge is required, precisely? What say you try to be helpful or just **** off?

EVE has a few hundred thousand players, of whom a few ten thousand are online at any given time.
With something like 5000 solar systems, there's an average of something like 4-8 players in any given system at any time, some of whom are docked.
But of course, players tend to flock to interesting systems. Jita is the most interesting one, but there are others.
