Ok so when it comes to this kind of thing i am in the dark... i have no idea what to do. There are going to be people who say not to do it if i dont know how... but i thought i would ask for some insight on how to not die in a JF from highsec to 00. Any help would be much appreciated.

A few trial runs on the test server would be a good move, get a feel for it before risking your JF for real.

Well, it's really easy to be honest. Always cyno in at a station. You can enter warp from undock at every station design except 1 even if you need to do a 180.
Other preventative measures include checking how long it takes to get out of dock range. In a different ship of course. This is effective gank prevention.
make a warp in bookmark for the station you are using it to fuel a pos in system, this prevents you from warping back to the station outside dock range
The jump freighter is damn near gank proof except to following situations
Cynoing at a POS Suicide ganking Having someone that sucks at cynoing and you bump on jump in Flying around during a war dec warping inside an out gate in lowsec and bumping off of it before you can spam jump.

Yes, please always do this!
Just like a stargate, a cyno will put you random;y around the cyno. Most of the time you will end up just out of dock range with reds all over it or being bumped halfway across the system.

Then the cyno pilot was incompetent and/or you chose the wrong station.

Heh, someone never learned to cyno.

Never had any problems. You can get someone else to do your cynos, but I always prefer to jump to my own alts. Stations with a large docking radius are preferred. -place the cyno within the docking radius. Your Jump Freighter will appear 5km from your cyno ship. So not too close to the station as that will get you bumped, but also not so distant from the station that you run the risk of appearing outside the docking radius (fit a salvager on a cheap ship and use the tactical overlay to show the bubble where the ship will appear), -verify that the undock is safe too. If you leave the station you'll want to wait out the session timer and verify that you are still within the docking radius, -if you plan on doing courier jobs for other people, triple verify that you have docking permissions in the target station.

Haha...must be dumb! Of course safe spots, POS's, planets or moons are sooooo much safer to jump to.
To the op - just make sure you dont jump to a kickout station, think about cyno placement to prevent station bumping and you'll be fine.

Every station's docking radius is actually a sphere, centered on the 'box' station icon. Every station model, no matter the shape, has at least one 'sweet spot' in which a cyno can sit and its cyno sphere will be inside the docking radius and not touching the station.
The JF will always appear along the edge of the cyno sphere, so that means you need to take the JF's length/width into consideration. It is possible for a JF to jump in and, because of the station's orientation and the default ship orientation, touch the cyno sphere only with the front/back tip of the ship. That means the cyno needs to setup so that the edge of the cyno sphere is far enough from the station that even if that happens, the JF still won't touch the station model. The worst model of all is the station type in Misaba. Kick out stations are not a problem for JF/freighters. It is now possible to undock and stop inside the docking range of all station types. |

Edited by: Yvan Ratamnim on 21/06/2011 12:30:25 LOL "just out of range from dock" sounds like your corp has some EPIC fail cyno pilots ... mine have never landed me outside dock ring ...
strap a salvager to your cyno ship, turn on tactical overview and mouse over the salvager and youll see a circle, that circle is the range that the JF will land from the cyno ship, you want that entire circle to be in side the stations "bubble" yes stations are circular even if they dont appear to be those epically tall stations just go next to them and youll be surprised how easy you can fit the bubble inside... the ones with the spires below just undock and stop after a few seconds its very easy on that one ... and my favorite i think its gallante is the ring one thats a circle with a notch cut out with the undock in the center of the O ... its epic cause anywhere you are inside the 0 is a safe cyno spot lol
BTW the salvager is only really needed till your good at visualizing the circle at 5km .. and you need that 5km to be just off of any physical structure....
for those fail cynos the reason your "always outside dock range" is cause your looking at your OVERVIEW, your overview doesnt need to be 5km from station... you need to be 5km away from the physical structure.

Also ctrl + space (stopping ship) doesn't change the 30sec session timer for undocking, so you can always check the undock before hand to make sure it's safe to exit.
