Right now I'm having a problem with T2 assault frigates. Specifically Caldari Hawks and Harpies.
Their coming in and flipping my cans. (Working on Mining to get barges, using an Osprey to jetcan mine and my badger to haul)
I know in a straight fight that there is no way I could beat them, I am wondering if using ECM warfare to lock their ship down so I can just continuously hit them without taking any damage will work? And what type of fitting will I be needing for it.
Thank you in advanced, Rothus.

It's pretty hard to beat highsec 'pvpers' (aka noob gankers) at their own game, especially if you're low SP. You can beat assault frigates with a t1 frigate if you have the SP and player experience to pull it off, but if you are mining in an osprey until your skills catch up for a mining barge, this is probably not viable.
You could ecm them, but you won't be able to break their tank or lock them down. Further, they probably have friends.
Easiest thing is just to move to a quiet, out of the way system and you'll never see a highsec wanna be pirate again.
If it's any consolation, once you get enough player experience to move to lowsec or nullsec, you'll never see that kind of player every again, unless you choose to visit highsec for some reason. |

Just throw dual webs + scram + neut + guns and put a 1600mm plate on and you should be good to go.
Or get a corp mate in a decent ship, he flips you, your corp mate comes in and kills him. |

Well I am not well trained in using guns. Even though I am really high in light missiles and Rockets. all my secondary missile skills are at lvl 4. (ie rapid launch, missile bombardment, etc) |

Replace 2x ACs with 2x Rockets or AML. I would go rockets so I could squeeze the medium neut and 1600mm plate.
Just be sure to hit approach, he will slower than you but you need to not let him disengage.

Ignore them. Go to 0.7 or lower system and use secured cargo containers. Guys who fly t2 frigs and flip your cans do that for one and only purpose - easy kill. Even if you are able to deal enough dps, he has a friend or alt around for sure. If you do not have other corp members or friends who can fly t2 ships with t2 fitting and have some experience with pvp, don't even think about revenge. You will lose and guy will just smacktalk you in local. True story ^^

Hawks and Harpies are terrible can-flipper ships you can easily kill with an Osprey.
Just do what NoLimit said, 2 webs, scram and neut then whatever small weapons you can fit. Don't forget to use drones also.

I used to can bait with a few month old alt character in an arbi fitted 2 mining lasers, but the rest neuts, web, scram, decent armour tank in the lows, T2 drones. Was fun, never ever lost to an AF but killed quite a few.

self-defense kill rights do not transfer to corp iirc. If the flipper has a friend in system at all he will not be much use, except maybe for remote repair. If you want to be really careful you can always set negative standing to the flipper's corp as well, then you can see straight away if he has any allies in local.

At your level of skill development i.e. low offensive, low tanking skills, higher mining skills, the easiest thing is to use secure containers. These can be anchored 'for self' in sec 0.7 systems and below. They need to be anchored 5km from other secure can or asteroid so you need to think about where you anchor them i.e within mining lazer range of a few roids. Don't forget to set a password. Book mark anchored can location so you can warp to it easily and you are good to go. Mine into secure can and collect ore with industrial when can is full. You can use multiple secure containers so you could anchor a few and they won't go pop after 2 hours. Say goodbye to can flippers.
This technique becomes limited once you stop mining with cruisers imo, well maybe up to a Retriever and T1 strips. Covetors and hulks will fill the largest secure can to quickly, in one or two cycles so secure can mining becomes impractical.

Stop jet canning or get a friend to sit back and wait.

This guys correct. Scrub pirate flips you, you attack him, and only HE can fight you. His fleet, corp, etc wont be able to attack you. So atleast take solace that itll be a 1v1.

Simply use Secure containers? No flipping then.

Unless of course he as a logi alt. Which is likely.

This is a part of EVE life, for most people in an unfortunate sense. Moving your mining operation to a 0.5-0.7 system, as already mentioned, will allow you to anchor secure cans - the only problem with this is they don't hold a great deal. You also have the option of making a second account and having a hauling character loaded up alongside your miner.
I would however strongly recommend you join a corporation that runs mining operations and has Orca support. Not only will you be mining with others but your cans will be eaten up by the Orca thereby reducing the chance of your ore being stolen.
And I definitely agree with what somebody else in this thread mentioned, moving to lowsec or nullsec will mean you won't face this kind of play type. It's strange to imagine but since my corporation moved out to nullsec our miners have a far better time than they did in highsec. No can flippers, no daft empire wardecs (we still get them but they rarely attempt to find us in nullsec) and ABC ores providing maximum isk/hr ratio. The only issue you deal with is the occasional red or neut entering the system, to which you simply dock up or move to a POS. CEO Enlightened Industries |
