Edited by: Captain Alcatraz on 19/06/2011 00:26:30 I built a quick list of the features of EVE Online expansions from release to June 21, it speaks for itself.
It's amazing to see how a small team could produce so much when EVE was still young, and to see how the focus has changed with time. How a small team could create a lot of great, concrete content for the players. Whole new ships, mechanics, places to explore, things we get to enjoy every time we log in. And how nothing like that was added since Apocrypha.
I used to wait for the next expansion with excitement, now I make a derp face when I look at the features pages.
What about the Low-sec revamp, FW revamp, hybrid balance, SC balance, engine trails and cyno effects? All those things we've been asking for years, that'd make a damn good expansion. But no, we get to trade $$ for hot-pants for our avatars and Scorpions built out of thin air instead

Interesting post.
I originally followed EVE up through release in '03 but backed off after hearing stability issues... The upcoming Incursion expansion and DUST 514 integrations made me bought and sub this game. So hopefully CCP won't dissapoint

Edited by: Atticus Fynch on 19/06/2011 00:43:33 As with most businesses of this nature they initially start out catering to the customer because they want to survive.
After a substantial capital build up they then focus on catering to themselves (or their potential investors) to increase profits often at the expense of the customers that brought them up in the first place.
It's a nice courtship and honeymoon, but eventually the marriage goes bad because their is a mistress involved.

My first trial was on Exodus I think, then I came back just before RMR!

Going on the stuff in that list, I think revelations was probably the best time I had in eve

I really hope that once Incarna is through, that CCP put some effort into seriously improving the space side of the game.
Don't get me wrong. I like the whole immersion stuff but it's not a priority for me. I see them doing all this work on WIS but only managing to remodel one ship for this expansion. At this rate, the rest simply won't get done. Looking at the new tractor beam and salvager turrets, they're brilliant but they make the now old textures look terrible and mis-matched with the new aesthetic (we now how two aesthetics in one game and it's jarring). I'd rather have had the ship models done but that's just me I guess...
Apocrypha was a totally fantastic expansion. Expanding on the exploration side of EVE was a brilliant idea and one which could possibly have a lot more breadth. I'd like to see EVE become mysterious again like in the good old days and bring more life into non-highsec areas. These days, everywhere is pretty much mapped to death. W-Space is great but unless you want to live in that one particular system (a big commitment) then you don't fight for control of it.
What I'd personally (personally) like to see:
1. More space - be it W or K-Space. 2. Low-sec revamp - give people a reason to go there and fight for it. 3. Remove local outside high-sec.
For starters...

After watching the Alliance Tournament live steam and hearing the segment where they talked some about the next expansion in winter after incarna and that one from the few inklings they inferred sounded absolutely great. Changes to sov, Industry fundamentals and resource allocation combined would make for a very well received and needed Expansion.

Too bad we're not getting any of that in Incarna, but (maybe, in part) in the next expansionà or laterà ùùù ôIf you're not willing to fight for what you have in ≡v≡à you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.ö ù Karath Piki |

In music communities, people grow, the music transforms, another generation steps onto the dance floor and the vibe continues on without missing a beat. From the perspective of the despondent ego, the scene has become "something else" and appears to have lost the special something. Some would cleverly debate that thing to be the "soul" from which all this creativity sprung forth.
The reality is too much for the ego to realize that change began with the person in the mirror. People grow and desire is a natural influence. One can desire a lover to never change or to be something they never can be but the outcome believing to be entitled or even righteous of such desire is unhealthy.
I noticed a keyword within the title of your topic ... "fear" It's also natural to fear the unknown. To want to control the outcome. For some it's impossible to trust the unknown.
Change is inbound but it's not really change or a loss, it is the natural course, it is what's possible.

Sure things change. Doesn't mean all change is good. And you don't have to change things just for the sake of it to appear fresh.
Change is an evolution, a natural progression towards something better. It should never be forced.

I think it's funny that in the search for a good way to assimilate something like change one has the risk of landing on denial as a way to try to pretend everything is alright. Even if the Minmatar quarters around you are falling apart because the duct take holding everything together is starting to melt... because CCP had the great idea of moving ships closer to the balcony instead of leaving them at the center of the hangar. |

Let's say your best friend and lover of two years leaves in the morning as red head and comes back to you as a blonde. You really loved her as a red head. She now claims that she likes the blond much more. The chances of her going back to red is not likely.
Do you...
A) Drop her ass. B) Embrace the blonde. C) Get involved by telling her what lingerie matches her new color and point out that her current wardrobe compliments her red. D) Spam the f! about how she fails.

Does she drop my framerate more than 70% with her new blonde hair? That is a important piece of data left out in your example and could potentially affect my view of things in a dramatic way. |

It could be with the blonde hair, she started working out and thus is faster than your current body.

You date her right? There are cost involved in dating. AND yet she still finds ways to include your outdated hardware.

Nothing against a different hair-colour, it's her body. But when she starts to screw around, don't embrace our relationship any more and doesn't try to satisfy some of my needs at the same time we got a problem.
So, you can stop playing devils advocate now Cyriel.
CCP did promise excellence last summer. I can show you quotes of that in black&white if you want. And CCP encouraged us to call them out on Bullsh*t if the need arises. I can show you quotes of that too.
Part of that excellence is expectation management, which CCP doesn't employ over long stretches. Yes, CCP is more communicative than 1-2 years before.. Devblogs and Masstests and joking of some Devs on the Forums are proof of that. But this doesn't equal Excellence. And CCP knows that. And they better start acting on that knowledge as the patience is running out on some of it's long term customers. The clock is ticking and we're 2/3rds through with the distance of 18 months.
