An "I quit" thread popped this question in my mind.
Im wondering what part of the chunk of money Sony promised to CCP comes from knowing that CCP will be forcing part of the eve community to buy a PS3 console if they want to participate to Eve-on-planets. That "were trying to reach another market" line is bull**** IMO, they know most eve players will want to play dust.
I find this really, really, hard to swallow. This is something eve players have been wanting for a long time, and instead we get to play doll dress up in station unless we buy a PS3 and only then, can we participate in the avatar part that matters.
I dont think it has really sunk in with the Eve community how greedy that move is.

Maybe because CCP does want auto aim bots dominating DUST 514 like it would be if it was on the PC, like the rest of the FPS's on the PC? I am not endorsing PS3 over any other console, but thank ****ing god its not on the PC. I would rather deal with eight year olds than a **** load of cheaters with auto aim bots.

I guess they should just port eve to the PS3, remove the PC part of the game and that will be that, no botters/cheaters either then.

Dust will be running on a centralized server, and that makes it absurdly simple to moderate. Get banned on one planet, and you just got banned on them all. It wouldn't take too much bannination to make people reconsider hacking, at around $80-100 a copy (you know it'll be that much), and thats assuming they don't ban the sony online account rather then the game copy, you probably have to buy a new console to get around that. Besides which, if you had played any modern FPS you'd know aimbots are rare. Aimbots are bleedingly obvious, noone uses them, at least not for long. Wallhacks are sometimes seen, but usually, if you think someone is hacking, its just that you are bad. Sorry.
For the record, I will not be buying a PS3 to play dust. I've invested far too much into my PC room to go start playing in my underused lounge room with the worst input system imagined since the sega activator.

The eve audience is too niche to impact Sony's overall sales, even if 100% of it went out and bought a PS3.
I imagine a very small % of it will, if they haven't already.
Sony knows this, so does CCP.
There was no deal made regarding this, because neither company profited from it.
You are looking for something to be angry about, nothing more. Get over it.

I'm (like others) still thinking CCP's move is coming as a consequence to LIVE fees and other related crap like that. Though relatively ironic considering recent license fee announcements me thinks, either way I agree with the decision of making Dust a console game for many reasons. The possibilities for epic win are all there, so it's just a matter of whether or not CCP can deliver.
Not holding my breath or making any bets about it of course, epic fail is epic win's twin sibling after all. |

Botters and cheaters, while thoroughly annoying and damaging to the economy, aren't really as relevent in an MMO like EVE. In an FPS game, they handicap the entire system, completely destroy all combat scenarios, and force admins to spend there days capturing and banning hackers. Frankly, hacks are the bane of the video game industry on PC, and do the most damage to the playability of FPS games in general.
I'd link some video's of the potential cheats and hacks you'd be facing on PC for Dust, but they almost consistently have urls in them. As for googling hacks on PS3, it seems that all youtube video's are fake, asking for info, and links suggest that the only hack is a trophy hack of some kind, which Sony apparently is in the process of fixing or has fixed.
That's a good sign I think. After my experience with online FPS for PC, I'll be happy to play a multi-player FPS without them.

If you look in the other threads about this topic or the Dev blog. Basically the game was orginally going to be designed for both Xbox and PS3. However Microsoft would not allow them to do two things.
1) Connect the game to the same network as PC games. It was against policy (even though they have done it with there own games in the past.), probably since when they tried to do it with a FPS resulting in the console test players getting slaughtered (There is a article form a couple of years ago about the test and why they abandoned it).
2) CCP want to be able to publish free expansions and upgrades, Microsoft would not allow this since they would not make any money on the extras.
Sony was more willing to work with CCP to allow these on the play station, hence the reason its only on the PS3. Macrointel, the place were the nature order of the universe does not hold sway. Pirates and ore thief's are congratulated by carebears for the actions. |

The only thing difficult to swallow is the crap you are coming out with. Can you really be so stupid? You clearly are not interested in DUST514, nor EVE since you refer to the next expansion in such a derogatory fashion, in fact I wonder what you are even doing here since you appear to think CCP are evil and greedy for wanting to make a profit, that EVE sucks and that we the community are so stupid that we need guidance from a mono-brow sporting, low IQ cretin like yourself.

The problem is often when game companies are not content with making money, and focus on making alot of money. Thats when the quality usually starts to go down.
Case study: Blizzard of the Diablo 1/ rocknroll racing era and Blizzard rolling around in a tub of money era.
Theres plenty of threads pointing out why Incarna is a lackluster expansion, dont need to repeat it here.

So you prefer console fps which deliver the aim bot as a game feature. Sounds fair to everyone at least. Why a forum in the year 2011 still has no automatic double post merge which can be done even with javascript mostly is beyond my understanding. |

Blizzard releases like one game every decade; how exactly is their "quality" going down.

anyone who buys a PS3 to play Dust is high. i already have a PS3 and i have no interest in Dust at all. another FPS in the most over populated genre on consoles? good luck competing with Halo and Fear and COD and all that CCP. the gimmick of having it relate back to eve will not matter at all to anyone who isn't already on eve and no one is gonna buy 12 copies for their 12 alts here. the beginning base will be much smaller than the subscriber base here, and i doubt it will get much bigger
and most of the Eve community doesn't care that CCP is only motivated by greed, even though that has been obvious for months

For example by letting dead servers live to milk players out of 25$ when they could easily merge them.

That is also what i think, thats why i dont understand why they will not release it on PC. Its what alot of eve players wanted, thats like releasing walking in stations (although its getting lots of flak now) on PS3.

I'm a newb in EVE been playing just for one week. I've been gaming for 30 years and EVE is by far the best game I've ever played. I come from an era of lines and dots for video games. The concept of Dust is the reason why I got EVE.
I own a PS3 I heard about EVE from a FPS forum called MAG(Which has the same concept as Dust) except the Dev for MAG was too poor to follow thru on the vision they had.
This is where CCP/Sony stepped in CCP is taking the baton from the Dev of MAG and making it better. What you don't realize is that there is a huge!!!!!!! market for FPS team based objective games that require you to think.
The players that will be playing dust will be your hardcore FPS team-based/Objective players. Which will be older players like myself. I do not play FPS games MAG was my first and Dust will be my 2nd.
CCP is calling Dust the thinking mans shooter kids do not want to think. Do not sleep on the Dust players I know of a lot I mean a lot of folks drooling to get in the dust Beta.

It's very possible to hack consoles and inject 'aimbot' software into the games memory. Just a heads up.

Probably worse, since apparently dust has more of an effect on eve than WIS...
