So I've been stripping belts in highsec and swapping crystals to mine various ores. Then I heard about faction strip miners that give more yield than regular T1 trips (but a bit less than t2 strips with crystals).
I really wanted to know that if in the long haul that faction strips will be truly worth the investment because of a few plausible reasons I have pondered.
a) The ability to strip a belt from start to finish without having to swap out crystals for each type of ore in the belt. (Also saving time while docking to swap said crystals)
b) Eventually over time break even then come ahead on the cost of buying said T2 ore specific crystals all the time.
c) Save a small bit of time not having to scan for specific ores for your crystal type down. (Then again I scan anyway to know if I need to run a full strip cycle or if I can stop early due to less ore left on the roid than a full cycle)
Also what would the cost of a faction strip cost each, or total cost to get 3 to fitted to my hulk. Not to mention where the heck I can pick them up at.

There is little difference between faction and tech1 in out put. A quick search on contracts finds examples of ore strip miners. Then its just a matter of doing the maths.
With no skills effecting output the figures are below.
Ore strip give 540m3 and have a range of 17km
Tech 1 strips give 540m3 but have a range of 15km
Tech 2 strips have 360 with tech 1 with 1.625 =584
tech 2 strips with tech 2 crystals (1.75) = 630 Macrointel, the place were the nature order of the universe does not hold sway. Pirates and ore thief's are congratulated by carebears for the actions. |

You heard wrong. Only one faction strip miner version exits, the ORE Strip Miner. It has the exact same yield as a Strip Miner I. The only difference between the two is that the ORE version has 2000m longer range.
Generally not worth the extra cost, assuming you can even get your hands on them. The only source for these strip miners are the ORE LP Store, which requires running missions for agents in one of two 0.0 systems in the Outer Ring region. These two systems are generally camped just because they are the only source of ORE LP items and certain BPOs (Covetor, Retriever, Procurer and Noctis).

Ahh ok, thanks for the info. Guess i'll just stick with t2's and swap the crystals as needed then. I can do without a tiny range boost.

When you're sitting around mining and are not fapping to ****, watching a movie, or forum whoring just show info in an item, and go to the variations tab it will list all the faction and officer varients and you can compare the differences.
Pro tip: Gallente faction items got screwed, much like Gallente ships have.

You dont need to dock to swap the crystals if you just carry them in your hold, they can just be swapped like changing ammo - unless you dont want to carry anything in your hold to maximise your haul as you dont have a hauler mining with you?
