I am getting pretty close to flying it, just wondering if it has any use outside of PVE. I would love to use it in pvp but most of the comments I see from people are saying its only useful in PVE. Or should I be training for a different command ship? Looking for any opinions/advice about command ships overall.

Well it is a Drake with just slightly higher Dmg, for a PVE investment to get 10% more DPS, and a bit more tank 150mil is not so bad because you make it back.
For PVP a Drake has close to the same chance of Dying but costs about 120mil less plus insurance. There is not a big market for it, if you can afford it fine it is a better ship but most of the time not enough to make it worth it.
Also it's tackle is a little gimped from having 5 slots.

Basically its drake with 100 more dps, sligtly better projection to small targets, slightly more ehp, 25% more efficient rr and better cpu - in exchange for 1 medslot and 200m extra isk.
Not bad ship, could use some extra pg though.
Best field command atm is sleipnir if you want to train for it.

The Nighthawk is good if you want to have fun and cost is no issue, it has a healthy EHP compared to a Drake, but like others have pointed out, all you really get out of it is a bit more DPS, bit more EHP than a Drake (45k to 75k give or take), a bit more precision, and that's about it.
So really all it boils down for me personally, since I do carry around a PvP Nighthawk in the rare event an Empire war breaks out and I can have some well scripted fun with it, is that a Nighthawk is a pricey kind of gamble, you get to fly a ship that looks amazing, has at least some fairly legitimate advantages over it's T1 counterparts, and looks good doing it.
I still remember when I was a rookie doing L4s out in the Dodixie area with a corpsmate of mine, a griefer warps into our pocket and flips a wreck, and my buddy starts firing on them without even thinking, and this Nighthawk and a few others warp in and wail on him good.
It made a HUGE impression on me to see this violent overpowered looking black and red ship firing volleys of death and destruction from 70 clicks out while a tackle boat tried to snag my buddy before he warped off.
It is good for making memories, not good for your wallet, you WILL lose it easily to a well fit battleship if you get caught, so just be aware of the limitations.
We had a war against an Empire alliance that claimed it was PvP centric, and one of our guys in an Abaddon ran around their neck of the woods solo day in and day out, and eventually he came across a 2.3BIL fit Nighthawk pilot who thought his **** didn't stink, well... he lost the Nighthawk, quickly... I think it took all of 23k damage before it popped, ROFL... poor shield boat against an Abaddon... *POOF*

Here, though this one's a passive tank. I like his active fit a bit more, but I bet it's with a deadspace shield booster, almost doubling the cost.

Fon just used 2 with a 30k point and, iirc a cheap 15m booster with crystals (the gimped fitting limited the booster).
Sadly we got uprobable t3, so he added a claymore in the second vid then a loki in the third just to stay competitive. He stopped making them because he got tired of expensive loot going to unskilled blobers, which is fair enough imo. Lowsec just turned into a smaller, much laggier blob fest after fw and while lag has been removed it's made lowsec rather stale. One of the big reason you see so many sleipnirs instead of nighthawks. Easier to fit and capable of getting off a gate without dieing where the nh would. |

A couple of comments: - It's not any different from any other PVP video. - It's very ballsy to take your NH onto the field of battle alone against so many enemies. - ****ty pilots are everywhere in Eve, and watching them explode makes for an entertaining movie. - Just because it's expensive doesn't invalidate what was done.

Ed: Really, it's far more entertaining to watch his 1+gang bonuses vs 5-10(?:+gang bonuses) than the 100v10 most people who complain about it usually do. -- Eve Forum ***** Extraordinaire On Twitter

I am in agreement here, I think you're taking this thread way too seriously for internet spaceships.
Liang was just curious about the fit, not about whether it serves you coffee in the morning or wipes your rear.

I seriously hate the nighthawk. Love the ship look but the function of it is nothing more than a fat crappy drake.
A Tengu beats it in every single role except that it has a drone bay and a utility slot.
If they gave it enough grid for HAMs + X-Large booster it could be a brawler but alas, they did not.

I think HAMs+ XL is a bit overkill. All it really needs to be competitive with other command ships is 150 grid. Anything beyond that should be left to the general question of Command Ship vs Tier 2 BC balance.
Also, I contend that the Nighthawk makes a better Naxias Drake because of the 5th low and explosion velocity bonus. Though the missing mid hurts a lot.

Some really good points here, but I dare to say that I still haven't given up making movies. I have probably unintentionally misleaded many of those enjoying my movies by the description text in ...Wickedness thread, but that was done merely to bring down further expectations.
I'm still playing and losing expensive ships left and right, but that's just my last movie being that good at reflecting my PvP cababilities at their best (which subsequently results in making it even harder to produce something new, equally spectacular) and EVE in general getting worse and worse (due to various things - cynoes, supercaps, ultimate intel etc.) rather than me scrapping proper PvP altogether.
But I'm still alive and (somewhat) kicking cause I've got some new cool stuff awaiting to get released one day.
Though, you're right in terms of me hardly using Nighthawks nowadays. I've got a little bit tired of pre-nerfed ships in general and Nighthawk in particular. Tengu for instance is better in every single way so flying NH at the moment is just a joke.
So is the reply of a CCP'er in my signature. Otherwise it's a perfect proof that EVE is being deliberately guided to its death by the incompetent leaders. ---

Good to know
As a side note however, I feel it's important (because plenty will inevitably fail to read the patch notes) that todays patch removes unprobable ships. This will restore a fair bit of the lowsec balance thankfully. It will also mean that anyone with a probe launcher over the next few days will probably rack up a lot of t3 kills ***The EVE servers and their patches***

They capped the ratio at just under unprobeable. So basically anyone with: - A faction probe launcher - Faction probes - A virtue set - Perfect scanning skills - Covops 5 - 5+ minutes to get the ultra tight 6+ probe formation required to get a returnable hit -- Eve Forum ***** Extraordinaire On Twitter

While I can totally sympathize about not wanting to PVP in a gimped ship, surely you find it easier to find fights with a NH than a Tengu? That's one of the key reasons I flew a Cyclone for so long - it was just easier to get a fight than in a Hurricane.

What about using the NH for PVE? I don't want to use a battleship for missioning it just looks really boring. On EFT I could get an active tank NH to do a bit over 500dps would that be plenty for PVE?
