Not sure where to post this, but isn't declaring war on another alliance the day before Patch day an exploit? ( I'd petition it if I didn't have 2 open petitions at the time that they still haven't closed... )
Just now, an itty bitty little ****ty alliance we've already pounded several times now, decced us, right before patch day, which is goign to start in hours, and last most of the day, giving us very very little time to prepare for it and switch to war operations. The fact that we have some people online with POS technician rights so we can switch our POS from quiet little carebear pos to OMG MOFO DEATHSTAR mode is a blessing, but I'm not sure everyone in our alliance has that luxury, and they won't make it on time to react as patch day will cover most of the delay.

Yep which is why you should have had all the offensive modules anchored already. Putting them online is quick.

yes.. but still with all the POSses I have to switch.. and unanchor all non-combat modules etc.. this is goign to take at least 2-3 hours, and Like I said.. i wanted to go to bed early. :p
for the record.. it's not the wardec that is making me grumpy.. I'll just put the dust cover on my hulk and my orca, it's the fact that they did it again with patch day.. giving us as alliance less time to switch over to war operations.. quickly move that pile of goods that has slowly been stockpiling but wasn't quite ready for bulk shipping, batten down the hatches, put dust covers on non-pvp ships, remove dust from pvp ships. Buy some boosters, and some energy drinks for war ops.. along with more wodka.

I'd say it's petitionable... but... your POS should be able to switch into 'combat mode' within an hour or so normally and a pos bash can take days so I'd say there isn't a huge advantage gained from it. I mean any offline modules that would get incapped would be easy to replace? Or do I not understand pos mechanics fully? :P

I do.. more or less.. right now I'm getting rid of non-combat modules that are not needed during war ops.. laboratories, manufacturing plants, that kind of stuff. and yes, I have spare guns, ECm and other junk already anchored. The guns and other toys are anchored and I'm onlinging them now. so that will be at least an for this pos.. Then I get to move to the next one.. and the third.. THAT is the annoying part.. I would otherwise be doing that tomorrow afternoon oh wait.. that's when the patch is being put up.. with the usual extension on the time it takes for CCP to bring the server back up, it will be wartime when the server is available again.
it would also save on fuel if I could do it tommorrow. :p

please explain how it is an exploit? You still get 24 hours notice regardless of patch status.
As a matter of fact i say YOU are the one exploiting because you will have MORE than 24 hours notice.
I dont have any open petitions so I am filing one now. . Adapt and overcome or become a monkey on an evolution poster.

I think you're not getting it Cipher..
Wardec was started at 20:00 Eve time.. or something like that. That means that tomorrow at 20:00 eve time, war will start. Meaning we have a prepare time of 24 hours. Now.. tomorrow at 05:00 the sever will go down for patching.. and is scheduled to be put back up at 19:00 eve time, that's a total of 14 hours that we will not be able to do anything on the server to prepare for war. So we have 10 hours, not 24 hours to prepare for war. Now.. add to that, european timezone, it's 11 am here.. I wanted to get some sleep early.. but I can't because if I go to sleep now, the server will be down before I wake up to arrange the POSses etc. And with the usual extension on the patch schedule, it will mean the war will be RUNNING before the server goes back up. So next time I log in from now, it will be wartime. No 24 hours.. just a few hours now, and having to delay sleep due to that.

I would imagine in the same way as mass-dumping sov structures (or disrupting the same) in connection to planned downtime has been labelled an exploit in the past.
Since the timer is still running during downtime, you're effectively cutting into the amount of time the opponent is given to get ready through various in-game activities. The various war timers are presumably there for a reason; circumventing the timers subverts that reason. ùùù ôIf you're not willing to fight for what you have in ≡v≡à you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.ö ù Karath Piki |

I've seen some threads where CCP has removed decs started just before an extended downtime. I would petition it...although it's probably more fun to just shoot at each other. - [SERVICE] Corp Standings For POS anchoring |

Xearal, it has now occurred to me that wardecing you, canceling it, wardecing you... canceling it (repeat repeat repeat) would be an immensely amusing and gratifying expenditure of a person's time.
When you petitioned said individual, they should simply tell CCP that it is an "attrition" method designed to get to whatever it is you have inside of those pos's. U think my plan would work?

Eh, Petition it. You have a chance for one of these things to happen
a) You'll get copy/paste of "the logs show nothing, go f*** yourself for filing a petition" b) Its not an exploit c) I eat crayons, hurr d) It is an exploit
...Then when you stopped to think about it. All you really said was Lalala. |

Edited by: Shandelzare on 21/06/2011 12:37:38 Edited by: Shandelzare on 21/06/2011 12:37:16 Don't know what CCP's stance is to wardecs before extended/patch downtimes, but atleast onlining Sov blockade units / territorial claim units just before extended/patch downtime hits, so that most of the onlining period is spent during the downtime is considered exploit worthy of banning involved players for few days and removing the offending structures. Atleast during the war in Fountain between IT & allies against invading forces, when someone from IT side onlined several SBUs just before extended downtime, the players involved were banned for few days.

We've had this happen to E-UNI a few times. It's actually a very good tactic by the wardeccers especially with our Wartime Standard Operating Procedures, which basically prohibits E-UNI characters from missioning, mining, hauling, etc... during the war.

You get 24h real time forewarning. Not 24h playing time. As you whineposted on the forums, next time a major patch is expected to take servers offline for a whole day expect a handful of alliances to wardec you a few minutes before downtime and start blobbing all your poses a few minutes after. --- I don't know! I don't know why I did it, I don't know why I enjoyed it, and I don't know why I'll do it again! Bart Simpson. |
