What exactly are the "several important issues" that the client update addresses anyway?

Originally by: Rolix FallenOne I'm ATI card user, too, and in my opinion there isn't any difference in hardware between manufacturers (Nvidia, ATI).
There is, but most of the difference is in how they do GPGPU. Just look at what everyone is using to mine bitcoin.
Originally by: Rolix FallenOne Only difference is software
And this is by far the most important difference. ATI were *not* known for their driver quality and only now AMD is trying to recover from it. For at least a decade games have had to include ATI-specific workarounds because some feature would break on their drivers and wouldn't get fixed (alternatively it could also be bad graphics hardware design, which would disprove your previous point).

Originally by: Demonfuge Malevolent Btw does anyone know what the daily downtime is actually for? I can't see anywhere what it is actually used to do...
Regenerate asteroid belts, remove expired containers and database optimizations IIRC

Originally by: Felix Shoen WTF on the Mac patch. opened up eve to find a EVE EULA box that is ??empty?? it says scroll to bottom to continue, there is no bottom. There is no Text. It also wont close. Very nice work CCP. New to Mac OS are we?
Welcome to Cider. CCP does not actually port EVE to OSX, they use Transgaming's Cider (a fork from a very old version of Wine) to run the client for them.
If you were running it under Wine on non-OSX I'd say you're missing a font (most likely Tahoma or Arial).

Originally by: 01011 101 I've installed the patch and the client screen ship and turrets are lovely, but I think I'm losing my mind....what ship is it?!
It's the redesigned Maller, seems to be in Navy colors.

Deployment is still underway, and the database is being stubborn. Current estimate for opening Tranquility for the players is 21:00 UTC. Once again, we would like to thank you for your understanding and hope to see you in the game soon.
In case people wonder where did that come from, it's from http://www.eveonline.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&threadID=1532385
