Edited by: Etheoma on 21/06/2011 06:30:07 all the reasons why Incarna sucks:
1. 10 HOURS DOWN TIME probably more like 24 hours given the normal way you calculate CCPs extended downtime's double it then add some more.
2. people playing station games in high sec will be able to stay docked and entertained so they wont come out to play.
3. adds little or nothing to the current game play.
4. this current expansion is little more than a teaser and a way to mass test how incarna works on most PC'son tranquility.
5.It draws resources that could have been allocated to fixing, finishing and expanding already released features.
6. and it just sucks.

Boohoo
Originally by: Etheoma 2. people playing station games in high sec will be able to stay docked and entertained so they wont come out to play
Because they couldn't possibly tab out to a browser, other game or stick a movie on the other monitor. There is NOTHING to entertain yourself with in stations. This is the whine you should have been going for.

Maybe, or maybe they only have these resources because of their ****ty vampire game.

Stunning finisher. This thread will go down in history.
Overall I think this was a poorly thought out post and you could have just put it in one of the other #23423564263639052 threads whining about incarna with no thought put into them.

trying to get people who play wow to play eve is like trying to get a 2 year old or play chess and adding a shinny near useless feature where they can walk about for like 10 minutes before they get board is not going to help.

My responses:
1. About my guess, too. Though I've been surprised before, I don't expect it.
2. As long as stations make you invulnerable, this was and will continue to be the case. We don't need incarna for this. PI, trade, trash talk, forum whoring, browser games ... I mean, c'mon? What's Incarna really adding that will make this worse than it already is?
3. In some ways, true. But I have to say, I'm really excited about the new recruitment options, as well as the maller reskin and the change in login screens. I can't use my CQ due to a crappy computer, so meh.
4. Agreed. Finger's crossed that CCP finishes it.
5. Disagree. Dev teams don't work that way, regretfully. Throwing more devs on a single issue (like bug-fixes) can actually have the opposite effect by making things more convoluted and slower. And ANY game where there isn't new content every few months, loses subscriptions. Plain and simple truth.
6. Disagree. But I've been waiting years for it, so meh.

Not for at least a year, no. Anyone trying out EVE will get bored of the broom closet before the trial period ends. If anything we need new players looking for Incarna to NOT jump in the game right now but wait until CCP has added station interiors at the very least. |

1. Maybe the downtime will finally give you the opportunity to step outside and get some fresh air.
2. People playing station games? Who cares what are people are doing b/c last time I checked they pay for this game too.
3. Adds and expands on existing features, but more importantly, it's a step toward fully walking in stations.
4. Downloading the patch is optional.
5. Fixing things is an on on-going process. Moreover, this patch will expand on already released features but not the ones you want obviously.
6. Cry more

I just can't get enough of how refreshing this forum is, with all the original topics and new ideas. Nothing ever gets redundant here.
I'm glad the people that decide to come to these forums read before posting and make decisions based on whether or not a certain topic of discussion has been brought up 100 million times before, for the past 87 months, 25 days, 17 hours, 32 minutes and 18 seconds.

Honestly, many people i have talked to that did not enjoy eve sited that they felt no connection to their character being in a pod at all times. Im not saying that incarna will sway everyone but it will add immersion; which whether you believe it or not is important to people.
Also do you really believe that eve players are so much more intelligent than other mmo players?

You have to admit that there are a hell of a lot of things to learn in eve and most of the more fun things take a lot of waiting etc and EVE in an Massive multiplayer / MMO getting back to the point it is not that eve players are more intelligent i can tell you there are a lot of dumb ass's in eve but we have the determination to climb that virtual rock face which is the learning curb of eve.

when did i say they didn't put a lot of effort in it i said that they put a lot of resources into it, but as i said they would be better off putting those resources into something else like fixing / finishing / adding to current features which would have been a lot more cost effective.

the others are basically opinion apart from 3 but there is some truth in that but i explained why this is worse in a later post
yes if you have lots of people working on one problem it can become very hectic and mistakes are likely to be made dead-lines missed because of mis-communication but if you take up the list of 1 million and 1 things that eve needs to fix there must be enough room for more people to work if they pick problems that little to do with one another in the code and in game

Two honest questions: 1. What's the consensus on whether prospective new users will notice a difference between the current advertising and the Incarna advertising?
2. Especially after seeing the quote to the effect that CCP believes they attract more players by releasing flawed, but higher tech, versions, as opposed to fixing existing issues, (I hope this is a rumor.) what's the consensus on whether most of the existing issues will ever be fixed and will remain fixed after future upgrades/patches?

1. Patch time will be about the same as it is for every single game in this genre. There will be issues, live with it.
2. If people want to stay docked and do more than spin their ships, well, thats their choise. EVE - Play it your way.
3. Adds a LOT to the game. Roleplayers will be given more to work with.
4. this current expansion is just like everything else CCP release. They give us the shell and then let the players build onto it from there. Its the best way to do things and the only way when it comes to sandbox-games.
5.It doesnt draw resources that could have been allocated to fixing, finishing and expanding already released features. More cooks in the kitchen does not allways make for better food.
6. and it is ****ing brilliant for those who want to use it.

Originally by: Lei Fai But it will draw more people to the game, providing the income CCP needs to expand upon and fix current features.
CCP doesnt need any extra income to expand on the game and fix current features.
EvE has provided the income for ccp to do a lot of things. They have purcahsed a company or two with money made from eve. They have used the profit to make one MMO and one FPS. A few buisness models they currently have running were not something that was there originally (there could have been a view for having it when they felt the game was large enough to support it) and that revinue stream also helps pay for all of the aspects of game design.
So far CCP Games has had 1 sucessful product, the money from EvE will drive the above two products (and likely more) until such a point that they either fail, or become a success on their own.
As the universes merge (incarna + dust + cross lisencing from other material) then the entire brand will be where all of the value is. Think of StarTrek/StarWars as an example of how one brand can spawn a large list of revinue streams.
I dont look forward to the move of buying things for $$, Plex allows users to play, removing that facility now would likely harm subscriber numbers to a point that ccp dare not risk. The worry is that this new system (selling virtual clothes and the ilk) could easily be altered to make buying real ingame items for $$.
It could be that Dust will be AURUM driven instead of ISK driven, If that is the case then SOME of what we are seeing seems logical to me. If Dust is ISK driven, with e-peen mods being purchable with AURUM then the conversion seems really odd.
There's two views ccp could have taken in regarding to doing PLEX to AURUM. The first (no tinfoil hat) view is that they wanted every player to have access to AURUM. I think this is the case. The second (tinfoilhattery) view is that they wanted to add a layer of virtual transaction space to seperate their activitys from being the same as other virtual stores.
Either way, Regardless of game, Regardless of Brand... This is EvE.. This is the current patch.. If you dont like it then lump it - Or just logoffski for good. ----------- Never Forget the joy of finding a main to link to a scammer alt. N-y-p-h-u-r ! ! |
