Anything dual core with a PCI Express 2.0 slot
Grab one of the crapboxes best buy sells for $200 put a $200 video card in it, buy a $200 monitor and for $600 you can enjoy 80% of the performance of that $3000 Alienware.
Buy ATI for best price/performance, Nvidia makes great cards they are just expensive, and it sounds like your looking for a budget build.

Regards,
I picked up one of the previous gen dual-core Asus Republic of Gamers refurbs for a tad over $600 US. http://www.amazon.com/ASUS-G51VX-RX05-15-6-Inch-Laptop-Refurbished/dp/B002RX43RE/ref=sr_1_15?ie=UTF8&qid=1308670543&sr=8-15
Certainly gives you more options on a budget. Works really well with Eve it has a decent nVidia graphics system only has a fairly low-res screen built-in, but plug it in to a decent screen when at home and works really well. There's a second drive bay so you can slap a 500G drive on or put an SSD in as the primary and move the one they supply as a secondary.
I also have a Macbook Pro that in theory SHOULD be able to run Eve - and it does just fine for about 10 minutes before the over-driven ATI video system overheats and shuts the system down!! ... i.e. AVOID a Macbook Pro for running Eve.
Otherwise - as other folks suggest a cheap white-box system with a decent video card should be fine.

Hey dude, it will be pretty cheap for u to setup a comp just to run eve with 1 client as intel processors are pretty cheap the bare minimum i would suggest is any dual core above 2.5ghz on each core (you can pick up a decent motherboard cpu and ram bundle for about ú100 on ebay example http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Intel-E5700-Dual-Core-CPU-and-Motherboard-2GB-Bundle-/280665502251?pt=UK_Motherboards_CPUs&hash=item4158f7b22b) Which leaves the psu, case, gfx and hard drive, if you had a bit more money then i would suggest going with the i7/i5 cores isntead of the LGA775. You can buy a pretty good case with a good air flow these days pretty cheap around 30 ish pounds, hard drive is going to cost you ú20-ú100 depending on size you want for the money, now you have the option of either buying a cheap psu for ú10-20 but the downfall with cheap psu's is there voltage regulation isnt as stable as a named psu like corsair etc and gfx cards arent too bad either now like the 8800gtx u can buy now for ú40 (ú350 when they first came out) but the main thing that is going to cost the most is the monitor.

Honestly, I strongly recommend that you take the time to build your own computer. It only takes a about a day to do even if you have no clue and end up looking every step up online.
1.You will get more comp for your money, and the components will be the ones that meet your specifications. The biggest problem I have found with buying pre-built computers is cheap generic motherboards, ram, and hard drives. Manufacturers also are notorious for negotiating deals for CPUs and GPUs from batches that did not meet QA standards from the big manufacturers.
2.You will learn a great deal about how your computer's hardware and software function. When something does go wrong with the computer, you will most likely know how to trouble shoot it.
3.Even if costs are a little bit higher on your first build, if you get into the habit of reusing the parts of your computer that are just fine (such as the case, PSU, drives, ect..) your next upgrade will be much cheaper.
4.Finally and most importantly, you will know exactly what software is on your computer. You would not believe how much spyware, adware, promotional software, and even key loggers come on a factory built computer these days. Not only do these programs drastically affect performance, but often leave you with gaping wide security holes.
If you do decide to buy a pre-built computer, do not leave the store with out a CD copy and key for every last bit of software that computer is supposed to come with. If you don't have the physical copy of the software, you do not really own it. The very first thing you should do with your computer, is completely wipe the hard drive and reinstal a fresh copy of your operating system and only the software you intend to use.
Do not use any OS CD that is labeled something along the lines of "HP system restore disk." Use only the OS disk directly from OS publisher. If a manufacturer or retailer is unwilling to provide you with this when you buy the computer, take your business else where. The only reason for them not to provide you with this disk, is so that they can charge you when you have to come back to resolve a problem requiring it.

NOT DELL XPSi (Intell Core2Quad Q8300 @2.5 GHz, 4 GB Ram and crappy GeForce 240 GTS) - it's so noisy that I can't hear the FC :)

Edited by: Ishina Fel on 21/06/2011 20:53:03 I've been building custom systems for friends and acquaintances for many years now. And if I've learned one thing, then it is the following: if you know where to look, you /can/ get quality parts and latest technology without cutting too many corners, and still achieve a reasonable price.
I'm not sure where in the EU zone you are, but these parts should be available most anywhere: http://geizhals.at/eu/?cat=WL3
Every single piece is from a proven brand. It is the latest CPU generation, the latest mainboard chipset and the latest GPU generation. 8 GB RAM, 1 TB storage on a relatively speedy disk. This system will not be whisper-quiet (that really costs something extra), but it won't be obnoxiously loud. Particularly the GPU has one of the best pre-installed cooling systems in its price bracket.
For 500Ç, this system can easily handle EVE and Incarna on a FullHD screen with all bells and whistles enabled. You will also be able to later upgrade to a true quadcore, if you so desire (but the 3.1 GHz 2-core, 4-thread CPU should serve you well for a long while).
Of course, this assumes you have a monitor, a windows license and a few hours of time to assemble the thing yourself. Shipping not included.
Enjoy
