After logging in tonight, doing the downloading on both of my computers and then trying to navigate the "Captains Quarters" my initial reaction is "Epic Fail"
The new release crashed my new "Gaming" laptop graphics card and caused my desk top system to run so slowly the entire "quarters" froze up. The light was also so dark in the quarters I couldn't see anything except the info screens.
If you guys call this progress we surely don't see eye to eye, I'll have to move everything out to my POS so I can play the game without all the problems.
I don't see this as progress at all, it's a step backwards and I'm sure many people will have to update their mother boards and graphics cards to get this to work correctly. For all the hype involved I was not impressed at all. The new release made a very negative impact on my EVE experience. The last major release made it impossible for me to dual box, now this release further degrades my hardware ability.
Did you guys conspire with your "partners" at Invidia and the other graphics card manufacturers to jack up their sales?
You suck...........

This thread should be posted in the sub-forum section - Eve General Discussion.
My HP desk top computer is 10 years old, running Win XP - 80 GB Hard Drive with Nvida GeForce 6200 vid card, Pentium 4 CPU 2.40 GHz, 1.00 GB RAM.
I had 15% free space on my hard drive and after downloading the expansion, I ended up with only 6% free space left. I removed a couple of other programs and got it up to 7% free space.
Anyway,I set up the Display and Graphics option in the Esc menu to optimize for performance and selected all effects to show, such as Turrets, Explosions, Drones, etc and then cleared all cache files. The game takes a minute or 2 to load up the Captains Quarters and it's a little bit laggy but I can interact with everything and walk around.
There is an option to disable station environments in the Esc menu. Might wanna think about that. I'll probably use that option for docking and undocking from stations whenever I'm in low security.
I plan on adding a bigger Hard Drive and a higher model Vid Card to my computer so I can reduce the lag and have more free space to download other programs. Until then, I can handle the bit of lag.
Overall I was impressed with the Captains Quarters. I like the direction this game is heading. It's turning into a full time space ship/character simulation.

Is it an ATI card?
Look at the Carbon engine this way. Its not meant for EVE, its meant for a game that's going to be released in 2-3 years, so until then, expect alpha level performance (even more so if you didn't buy the golden brand Nvidia) ...Then when you stopped to think about it. All you really said was Lalala. |

Edited by: Brickley O''Neal on 22/06/2011 13:32:52 What did you expect running a gaming laptop? Gaming laptops in general, unless you have a top of the line $7k custom built one specifically for gaming, suck, period. Don't complain and blame CCP for your shortcomings in hardware. It's not their job to make sure all the players have adequate hardware to be able to play the game, before or after any major patch/xpac, it is YOUR job to make sure YOUR hardware can play the game they produce. So quit *****ing and get a realistic machine that is designed to run a graphically demanding game.
I see thousands of people whining about how terrible their systems run now, well DUH, what do you expect people. Use your fricken heads. No ones forcing you to play the game anyway.
At any rate, great job CCP, game runs fantastic on my end, not so much as a hiccup thus far.

I have an asus U-30JC and can run the game and nothing went wrong with my computer.
It's not even designed for gaming.
Albeit its a bit choppy in the quarters, but whatever i think the addition is great. I love seeing the ship hang there.

My HP 8440 laptop still runs eve pretty good and it's not even a "gaming" laptop, it's a business class one...over wireless even.
Meh, he's probably got all the extra crap they put on laptops running sucking up resources, my guess.

I downloaded and installed the expansion on my laptop after work last night. The quarters take about 20-30 seconds to load when I dock, and the movement is a little choppy (need strafe buttons! :P), but everything will display, even on the higher level graphics settings. This is on a mid-grade Toshiba Satellite that is over a year old. The only problem I have with Incarna is the character creator (even on low settings) is sssssllllloooowww, but usable for everything but facial/body sculpting. I just use my 5 year old desktop with an AMD 2.8Ghz SINGLE core processor higher-end video card for that and it's fine.

Yeah, so it's a "laptop" but it worked fine up until Incursion. And for those who are multi-tasked challenged I also said my desk top ran crappy too but you obviously didn't read that far. The point is this release is still very new and also very incomplete. As new layers are added more people will begin to have hardware issues and more people will be forced to upgrade their systems or get new ones. It's either that or quite playing EVE. And I'm going to ask this again, what did it add to the actual play in space? Nothing. If I wanted social interaction I would have signed up for Facebook. And yes, I posted this in the wrong forum location, sorry.

problem with that is you cannot disable environment while in the station environment, so don't forget to do that before you dock in lowsec or you'll just increase your risk by having to undock and redock.
