So how come no ever uses shield booster (for pve/pvp)? I see primarily LSEs and Invulns being used.

Edited by: Worpout on 22/06/2011 18:27:47 Because shield boosting (And active tanking in general) is hard to make any real use of in small scale PvP w/o crystal implants (While not entire impossible) and in a large battle's it's useless.
The reason of this is, the moment the amount of incomming damage is exeding(How do i spell that?) your tank, you will go down quite fast, compared to ships who field a buffer tank.
Also, it require a huge amount of concentration with cap management and pulsing your booster the right time.
Edit: For PvE you should really not use buffer tanking ships.. Are you only looking at DRAEKS or something?

There are a few reasons that Buffer Tank is prefered.
* Harder to fit. * Requires more Mods IE Sheild Amps, Cap Boosts and such. Leaves less slots for tackle. * Capacitor Heavy, makes Neuts Doubly Dangerous. * Not optimal for fleets because of lack off buffer tank makes it easier to be Alpha'd before RR can rep you. * Not many ships are bonused to it. * Repping is over time so you might last shorter then a Buffer fit if the burst you down to quick. That is why most ships that do it are bonused.
That said the Solo/Small Gang Mealstrom, Rokh, Navy Scorp as well as the Cyclone and Sleipnir are often Active tanked. But for the most part other ships don't have the Mids or CPU to Support it.

Edited by: Rodion Romanovich Raskolnikov on 22/06/2011 18:55:25 For elite shield-boosting shenanigans see the Cyclone and Sleipner.
In PvP, active tanking is only really viable for solo combat, and since most Eve players shudder at the thought of fighting on their own ("solo PVP is dead!", "if ur going into a fight with equal numbers ur doing it wrong, lolz!", "blah-blah, herp-a-derp, umadbro?", etc) EHP tank for blob-gank reigns supreme.

Buffer tank keeps you alive the longest, and requires minimal oversight.
Shields recharge automatically, and if you do survive a battle you can probably dock up to repair shields. The booster can also repair your shields, but it won't do you much good if you've been blown up.

Active tanks have their place, but sadly lose out in most scenarios.

Y u doe it rong? I doe it rong 2 :'(
When to use shield boosters: - mostly pve - ships with shield boost amount bonus - if you have really kewl complex boosters on your shiny pve ship (tengu/vargur/raventypes/maelstrom like that) - when you get bored running missions with afk/rush domi's and want to try a t2 maelstrom fit with tech 1 XL booster YAY, no crystals of course
Just like with local armour reppers they are strong, especially when you get a stable fit, and specific for shield boosters, crystal sets

Active tanked fits use a shield booster.
Passive Tanked fits (such as a Drake) rely on the passive recharge ability to regen shield. The LSE improves the passive shield regeneration.
PvP Buffer fits use LSEs because incoming PvP damage can easily overwhelm a shield booster.
Go search on "active tank", "passive tank" and "buffer tank" for more details.
