Face it, they do not have the subscriptions a game like WoW has to play Russian roulette with their base fans. EVE is nothing without its fans. In today's gaming market a game company cannot expect to get away with whatever they want and neglect their base fans - period - end of story. CCP does not have this luxury. If they really believe this, than they have been living in a cave in Iceland the last few years(I hope that is not the case).
Just give them the time they need to sort this mess out. I love Incarna and I want it to succeed, but not at the cost of the games fans. Without them, this game becomes just another POS game on a market all ready flooded by those types of games.
So here is hoping the people in charge at CCP understand that if they want to be an SOE and drive their main fans away and make them bitter - they can do this, but be prepared for the backlash. It will be fierce. Ask John Smedley if he regrets what he did with SWG and the NGE and if it was a good business move. SWG still hasn't recovered from the NGE(in the last week they are removing 2 more servers and moving players to the remaining ones - there is probably less than 30k people actually playing SWG today compared to the 450k they had before the NGE).
So chins up! Give CCP a chance to make this right(the MT stuff), and get the rest of Incarna out, and lets see if they can continue to deliver the game we have all come to love. If they can't and won't - then to hell with them - I'll be the first to biomass and cancel my sub.

While he'll probably concede that it was a bad move in terms of business, the NGE wasn't the only time Smedley proved that he has no shame. In fact, he pretty much did so repeatedly from the start of his reign, and not just to SWG.

Sorry then, replace the "we thought they were" by "they told us they were". Is that more accurate ?

The thing that seems crazy to me is that they knew some people would be resistant to micro transactions and incarna in general, and then some genius decided to price an eye patch at $60...
No foreplay, no loob, they just went straight in and left everyone feeling abused.

It's been said so many times before, if CCP cared for the fans they would have fixed all that is wrong and several clicks away from fixing rather than add more content with more bugs.
Fixing lag, FW, hybrid weapons, sov, supercapitals etc could have been done in a few months tops. Instead we get CQ wich brings more lag, more bugs and more rage. This is ignorance towards the player db hands down.
If they are pushing the game in this direction, it is not the game i want to play anymore.

They don't learn. They don't study the history of MMO's so they're doomed to repeat the same mistakes.
This happened before SWG, it happened to DAOC. The 'BizDev' team THOUGHT they understood what the playerbase wanted. They THOUGHT they could put together and expansion that everyone would love. They tried to emulate EQ1 and make it force people to socially interact. Instead, they turned DAOC into a nightmare that took months of camping and huge groups of people just to acquire special skills or one single piece of gear. And if you didn't have those, your character was just crap. Those of you who were there know quite well about the Trials of Atlantis expansion and how it devastated that MMO.
DAOC is now a shadow of what it once was with peak times having 2,000 players online. Mythic was eventually bought out by EA and became part of Bioware but the bitter taste still lingered. It's now some 8 years later and DAOC still hasn't come close to it's former glory days of 20 odd servers. Last I checked they were down to 2 servers.
Then, the SWG saga you mentioned. They don't have to ask John if he screwed up, he admitted it freely when SOE bought Vanguard.
"We've learned a thing or two with our experiences with the NGE and don't plan on repeating mistakes from the past and not listening to the players." - John Smedley, president of Sony Online Entertainment
Two MMO's failed to listen to the people that made them what the were and were financially punished as a result. The question I have is whether CCP has the ability to learn from the mistakes of others without having to make them on their own? That... remains to be seen. Well I like the Incarna expansion and look forward to the new avenues of game play it will provide. This game will be more of a rounded gaming experience. As for the MT, that is where I have an issue. This notion of adding buy-to-win items is a no go for me. It will break the game not only for me, but everyone playing and in my opinion ruin it. Just my opinion, though.
They should also be realistic with the MT prices. It is crazy to sell a virtual item in a game for he same price(or even higher!) than items we find in the real world. That is just insane.
