Hello! Getting a Pilgrim soon for pvp. Looking for some general insight on fitting/tactics/engagement profile, for solo/small gangs, in low-sec/null/wormholes respectively. I will mainly be flying with a Purifier SB friend though, in which case I'd decloak and tackle (scram, web, neut and tracking disrupt) and then the SB decloaks and torpedoes from range... how would that work on which targets?
Any and all tips, thoughts, insights much appreciated!! thx

You can swap out some of the more expensive bits for T2 bits if this fit is a bit spendy. I only fit mine this way after flying the Pilgrim quite a lot and learning the ship and what it can and cannot do.
Pilgrim isn't really a ship for long engagements. You want your neuts and drones to take the enemy out of the fight quickly, and the 3 neuts are extremely effective at this.
But...
you have to really learn how to pick your targets properly. Taking this up against a passive Drake is a terrible idea for the most part, but excellent against ships the live by cap (ie: laser/blaster boats, active shield/armor boats).
The neuts give you teh GTFO ability, as does the ECM drones (but try to never rely on ECM drones getting a jam when you REALLY need it). The scram, web, and TD are extremely helpful to keep a boat from burning away (neuts as well for AB boats). Not going to get a lot of DPS out of it though, even with top drone skills. Works EXTREMELY well with another dps ship. Bomber is decent unless you against a drone/missile boat, then your bomber goes pop very fast. Paired with a dps-heavy boat like a gank Cane, Harby, etc, you can get some great kills.
Mostly though, and this comes from just experience, know your ship types and use this knowledge to pick proper targets. Pilgrim is great for ganking at celestials, belts, plexes, but not so great while taking sentry guns (and enemy player guns).
If you know for sure your target is within range of scram on landing, decloak on your way in (need 6 seconds at least, fairly awesome when you learn to do it so your timer is up right as your warp is over), otherwise a 1600mm plated boat like this is tough to catch anything except other very slow boats.

The above setup is solid. But here is mine.
Highs: Cov Ops cloak II 2 Medium Eneru neuts II 1 small energy neut II
Mids: Med cap inject II with 800's Warp scram II Y-t8 mwd 10mn AB II TD II
Lows: Med armor rep II DCU II 2 EANMII 1 800 rolled tungesten anti therm pump anti kin pump
10 med II drones 10 warrior II's
This ship is best flown with a Falcon and can overtake any ship in the game aside from Caps given the right circumstances. The AB serves as a second TD used for rtansversal and spotty situations. I have had a lot of success with this platform.

Thx alot for the input, the fit I had in mind is very similar to Torothins. The decloak on warp-in trick sounds really nice =) Perhaps I'll try to pair it with a drake on the alt instead...
ps. Will be getting a Curse as well =)

I like this setup.
2 x Medium + 1 small is better than 3 x medium neuts? Presumably because once you have the cap down, the small neut shuts down the window of opportunity for cap recharge?

Yup, basically this. But its more for keeping pve ships capped out so they cant even activate hardeners - i wouldnt say its better in every situation.
For pvp you want your target capped out asap and theres much bigger chance, that pvp ship will have cap booster fitted - bonused med 3 neuts help with that alot. Its harder on fittings, but also allows you to engage from 12k if you have faction scram - and with 2x tds you can shut down almost any turret ship from 12k.
Btw avoid drakes, myrms and battleships with lots of utility.

ya I like the 1 small+ 2 med fit, however I think 1600 plate is better when not with falcon tbh.

Edited by: Noxides on 28/06/2011 01:45:46 I fly a pilgrim quite a bit and one thing I have to say is if your pvping in wormholes/0.0 don't bother with cap boosters, your run out after like 2 fights and the nearest ones will be 30+ jumps away if your in red space.
I fly my pilgrim in the heart of other players sov, where's local's full of them, where the ratters feel relaxed. Your not gonna want to stay on grid long enough to use cap boosters imo.
The fit i use:
[Pilgrim, Solo Pilgrim lvl5] Damage Control II Medium Armor Repairer II Energized Adaptive Nano Membrane II Energized Adaptive Nano Membrane II 800mm Reinforced Rolled Tungsten Plates I
Medium Capacitor Battery II Tracking Disruptor II Tracking Disruptor II Warp Scrambler II 10MN Afterburner II
Covert Ops Cloaking Device II Medium Nosferatu II Medium Energy Neutralizer II Medium Energy Neutralizer II
Medium Anti-Thermic Pump I Medium Egress Port Maximizer I
Warrior II x5 Warrior II x1 Vespa EC-600 x6 Hammerhead II x5 Hammerhead II x1
Works good in pairs http://aac.eve-kill.net/?a=kill_related&kll_id=9349932 http://eve-wtf.com/killboard/?a=kill_detail&kll_id=36747
Any turret ship is game, only engage passive tanked ships when local isn't full I pretty much only use targeting range disruption and orbit at like 7k with AB on. Spam D-scan like anything when in a fight if anything shows up GTFO.
This suits my play style but it might not suit you, i can spend weeks deep in red space harrasing the locals hence my point about not having cap boosters

Its an awful ship I'd pick another. If you want the cloaky ganky dream, the T3s give you a much better target selection and even a solo stealth bomber gives you a larger target selection
Its almost unusable in WH due to Sleepers nuking drones, its almost certain to die if back up arrives (and anybody half way decent PvEing should be in fleet and have at least a point on their ship to snag gankers) and it fares incredibly poorly against most PvP ships.
...Then when you stopped to think about it. All you really said was Lalala. |

It works great in wormholes, most wormhole engagements end up being ganks. Without the pilgrim, killing those t3's are incredibly difficult as their tanks are insane. Also in wormholes you rarely solo, so it's job is to lock down a ship and drain it for your friends to blow them up.
I can only speak for wormholes, but my strategy is to basically find these guys and wait for them to finish the sleepers, just as they finish I uncloak and grab them. Bare in mind that you want to avoid drakes and hurricanes, but those are more easily kill able so the pilgrim isn't needed that much. Outside of ganking, I wouldn't recommend flying it in a gang/fleet setting as it's not really it's strength.
