I've read comments a few times that seemed to reference signature radius mattering in regards to being tracked. I wish I could find some of the original sources, but I didn't keep track of them, and I recall them being from reputable sources.
So, am I missing some knowledge of an important mechanic? From what I understand, it's transversal velocity vs. tracking, and signature explosion/resolution vs. signature radius. Nothing between signature radius and tracking.
Maybe the reference was more complex than that and they were referring to how the two damage reductions are applied together? (which I don't know exactly, tbh)
Please enlighten me if I'm missing something.

(Edit: I'm at work and can't download the swf, but I've been through that guide before)

It is (Angular Speed divided by Sig) vs (Tracking divided by Res)
...and this result is then modified by falloff distance.
So yes there are some cases where that target painter may prove more benefical than tracking computer with tracking script. ------------------------------------------- Die Amarr Die!!! |

Sig radius vs. resolution is a direct multiplier to tracking.
Double tracking has EXACTLY the same outcome as doubling target signature.

Edited by: Matalino on 23/06/2011 20:36:27 The guide states "the signature comparison is multiplied with the tracking comparision". This is correct. Increasing your target's signature radius (using a target painter) has the same effect as increasing your turret's tracking. The effects of tracking and signature radius are the same.
However, the guide completely fails to descibe the tracking comparison, giving the excuse that "one cannot really explain in words". It is actually very simple: tracking follows the same curve as falloff. Having a target with (signature resolution/signature radius) * (angular velocity/tracking speed) = 100%, will give you around 40% DPS; (signature radius/signature resolution) * (tracking speed/angular velocity) = 50%, will give you around 80% DPS; (signature radius/signature resolution) * (tracking speed/angular velocity) = 200%, will give you around 6% DPS;
You can read this article for more details. It even includes a nice picture.
