Hooray and about damned time.
And I knew Friday was some sort of firewall on the time frame front...
Look, you said it, you realize we're full up with many an unhappy camper.
I will say you have the order of things a bit messed up. I'd say the NEX prices while insanely laughable are far from the number one concern. I think the number one concern is years of "Incarna will be optional" became "pay us to alpha test WoD." Because that's how I see this. I've never cared about WiS - I know of SL and quite frankly they have you clocked in the buy things for your space barbie market. I didn't care though, since I'd been told as long as I've been here (late 07) that I wouldn't have to do Incarna. Well, sure, we can turn it off - for now. What happened to optional? Because while it may be optional at this juncture, it sure doesn't seem like it will be forever. That's my number one gripe and if this were to change back to optional for all time, then I'd move on and be a happy camper again.
So, my ranking of anger goes something like this:
1a. Optional or not? (Or, "give me ship spinning or give me death" - you can keep your damned monocles!)
1b. Is that newsletter legit? Cause if so - you all have some explaining to do...
2. Performance - why are 4 walls and 1 avatar killing some folks' machines?
3. Holy broken skills/ships/bonuses batman!
4. NEX = trolololol

Yeah, I think that's probably their plan. But see, I think this is in fact so cluster**** huge enough that they shouldn't be pulling a Friday afternoon news dump and then running for the hills. This **** is serious, and they need to be burning the midnight oil in Iceland.
Hell, the more I think about it, the less pleased I am with the whole "I'm here to say chillax, people will be talking tomorrow" vibe from Pann's initial post. Screw that, get Soundwave to get his ass out here and explain himself. I don't care if it's his normal snoozy time. This is serious. All hands on deck, no one sleeps till this gets fixed.
While I myself have commented that it's not like CCP is curing cancer or putting men on the moon, we all do pay for their continued existence. So, you know, this weekend they don't get off.

Originally by: CCP Manifest Soundwave will NOT be fired nor should he. I personally would not like to see one of the driving forces behind the Alliance Tournament and the spiritual leader of Team BFF take a fall for agreeing to present one opposing side of the microtransaction debate in an internal newsletter.
I totally agree that he should not be fired. I don't believe in being punitive against people who have an opinion, however unpopular amongst the player base it may be. Having said that, while it's admirable you're going to defend your friend, quite frankly, Soundwave needs to be here defending himself, not you.
I think it is completely understandable that many of us here are not too happy with the man. He needs to come explain (and honestly, I feel this is important enough for him to be doing this now, not tomorrow, but now) how he thinks his ideas in Fearless WILL NOT completely destroy the game we've all been playing these many years.
As for me, this is what I'd like to know. Has there been a discussion since Tuesday amongst you folks about rethinking the forcing of Incarna/CQ on us in the future? It sure seemed to me that being able to disable CQ was something CCP planned to remove in the (who knows when) future. Has there been any discussion of going back on this idea - back to the years of "it will be optional" that we knew of prior to whenever the "Incarna and multiple clients" dev blog was published (what? 10 days ago or so?)?

He sees us all as a bunch of children needing his enlightened guidance to lead us places we don't want to go. Sorry pal, the emperor has no clothes and no amount of slick talking or promises of more "walking" is needed. Why don't you just shut up, listen to your customers, and then present something substantive on corrective measures?
I felt that too. You hit the nail on the head here Heinrich!

Originally by: Brujo Loco We need a complete lineup of CCP's current policies regarding the game, was the "leak" real? Are you guys trying to turn EVE into a FORCED Incarna Watchstation? Why make CQ MANDATORY by placing the non Incarna environment "TEMPORARY?" WE WANT to OPT OUT of INCARNA. WE WANT the OLD Ship Spinning Environment back, and please, read this, NOT BECAUSE WE WANT TO SPIN SHIPS Like drugged up clowns for endless hours to do nothing, we want the old ship spinning environment because its FASTER, EFFICIENT AND MORE STREAMLINED that the completely counterintuitive mess that CQ is, NO we don't want a better or bigger CQ now, we WANT you to ENABLE the OLD HANGAR BACK, then you all can continue dallying with your "great success" of Failcarna Environments while leaving a main core aspect of EVE's oriiginal gameplay as it WAS.
Change is good, but don't forcefeed us your ideas of testing Incarna. Bring the OLD Hangar environment back and make CQ Incarna OPTIONAL, not the other way around.
*some snips*
Explain to us how people inside CCP pretended to induce us to Mass test an engine <that is obviously flawed and still needs a lot of work> by taking away FUNCTIONALITY from us? <bring back the old Hangar Environment, make CQ optional>
*more snips*
And as a final Note, next time you pretend to lead a company somewhere, EXPLAIN BEFOREHAND and thoroughly what are your plans, if you want eve to become a BUY DRESSES, READ REAL JAPANESE MANGA fest, say it so beforehand, don't lie or try to weasel your way out!
Don't get me wrong, I think the leaked Fearless thing and the implications is pretty damned important. But at the end of the day, this is the most damned important thing to me. Don't force us to alpha test Twilight Online!

Manifest, I'll give you credit for being here and posting. I still think we need a lot more people burning the midnight oil on this one, starting a real damned dialog with us here. 48 hours and you see how this all got out of hand, so credit for reading and responding.
So, for me, I'm seeing two things that some kind of answer would be awesome on... The AUR for more than vanity - is this happening or not? Then my thing - has there been a discussion about changing your collective mind about forcing Incarna/CQ on us or in fact doing what you all always said you would do - leave it as an option for anyone to take advantage of anytime they choose to.
I could even like Incarna/CQ so long as I get to choose when and how I'll use it. Sure, I can turn it off now... But for how long? Please please please please please consider making it "forever optional!"

Originally by: Spaja Saist I hope everyone realizes this is just a PR ploy. First they throw Pann to the wolves in a lame attempt at cooling some of the anger then they bring a Dev in and all he can do is make wise cracks and confirm they aren't going to change a thing.
It's too late to try and hold the tide back now. CCP has already made up their minds on where they want to take EVE. Unfortunately they are taking it where I and many others don't want it to go. I'm done with this company and the game I have been playing since 2003. The company is no longer run by people who really love the game. They only care about squeezing every last cent they can to get WOD up and running.
Keep the anger going. Don't fall for their bull****. The only solution is to quit and make them pay for ruining what was once a great and unique game.
Spaja out!
I'd say the fact that I honestly rarely post and yet I've been posting a ton (for me at least) in this thread and others over the last couple of days says that I'm not going to let my anger subside or fall for their bs. I don't think in this case our mass outrage is entirely misplaced nor inappropriate.

Originally by: Lucien Aeonis I've seen this a few times and I don't really understand the issue. If you ever paid for WoW you helped fund Starcraft 2 and Diablo 3 (as well as more WoW). If you ever bought a Chevy or a Honda you helped those respective companies fund R&D on new cars (and for improvements to w/e vehicle you bought).
It makes perfect sense that in paying for EVE, you'd help fund additional projects by CCP, as well as more EVE. Now if you don't agree with what is being worked on for EVE, that's a different matter entirely. But being mad at a company for using its revenue to produce other products (as well as what you are currently paying for) seems silly.
I agree with you - this is a silly thing to be angry about. However, I do think it's ok if I'm angry that at some point in the future (barring a change in policy do to the outrage here) I will be paying CCP to alpha test WoD.
If they want to take my money and make WoD - fair play. However, don't force me to do the testing for them if I should wish to choose not to.

sigh ... AG
Here's my thing. If people are thrilled with Incarna/CQ as it is now - I'm thrilled for them. But I'm getting pretty damned tired of people trying to convince me that it's the greatest thing since sliced bread. Because it's not that impressive as of now. And while I've never cared about WiS (I've known of SL longer than I've known of EVE), and thus am inclined to be "meh" about it anyway, I credit that CCP wants to do something new. However, SL exists, and has as long as EVE. It's like no one around here (including CCP) is aware of its existence. You all think CQ is cool? Head to SL - your head will explode.

You get a large enough group of people together, though, and you can accomplish anything. Even if it means acting like rabid monkeys.
And please explain to me how I'm acting like a rabid monkey? As I've said numerous times over he last couple of days - I don't care about the NEX prices. I am not having hardware problems. I can play the game just fine.
I am not thrilled about the leaked Fearless stuff. I am not pleased that years of "Incarna will be optional" recently became "disabling it will be a temporary courtesy." I don't find Captains Closet particularly interesting, useful, and most importantly, the ground-breaking OMG next best thing since sliced bread feature that some seem to think it is.
I agree with many others that CCP have burned years of good will and trust with their player base. I think I'm allowed to say that, whether it offends you or not. But you're right, I'm just a rabid monkey.
Quite frankly, there have been some over the top comments in this megathread. There have been a TON of well thought out, well reasoned, and most importantly well intentioned comments. Players are not happy, and this is a game that many of us love. But yeah, we're a bunch of asshats for making our opinions known. Clearly, yours is the only one that matters.

Remove CQ. You're just not up to the technical challenge. Look at how terrible the avatars look compared to the char creator. And even with low polygon counts, no animations, 1/4 of the closets finished, and no interaction, you're melting people's graphics cards. This is a terrible failure.
Sorry, but this is utter bull. CQ is a fantasic technical achievement. As someone who can actually run Incarna smoothly, I can tell you, with everything maxed out, it looks very slick! And the character creator? It far overshadows anything anyone else has. Ever played Mass Effect? Their characters can't hold a candle to the truly ingenious 3D characters of Incarna!
The 'animatronics' are amazing too. I was standing in my CQ the other day, and lingered a bit, and suddenly noticed my character was staring at her nails for boredom! Seriously, Incarna is the pinnacle of character design.
I know it's hard to keep issues separated when a general anti-CCP frenzy is ongoing. But Incarna really is a masterpiece -- technically, at least.
Um, no actually it's not. Or perhaps that's not fair of me. I shall explain...
It very well may be a technical masterpiece on some level of unprecedented new technology that is in its infancy. If so, fair play! Good job CCP/Nvidia partnership! Maybe what we're seeing is some bare bones version of something truly spectacular that just needs time for kinks to be worked out. Again, if so, fair play! And in fact, I suspect this to be the case...
But. And this is a huge but... What can we now do? Not a hell of a lot. I hate to keep dragging the SL comparison into this. But if you think your Captain's Closet is amazing, seriously, go take a look at SL. You were impressed with the animations?! That truly is amusing to me. My first thought, and that of a friend of mine was this: I need my Huddles from SL with my AO. Because what our avatars need is a decent AO. (AO = animation override if you're not up on this SL talk - basically, new, better animations that override the default crap built into SL. It's actually impressive what the players of SL have done there - makes CQ look downright laughable.)
Now I grant you that the character creator is first rate. I completely agree. Shame we look nothing like what we made in the creator once we hit our Captain's Closet. My feeling is this - the creator makes avatars in SL look childish. SL makes our avatars in CQ look pathetic. SL makes our movements look pathetic. Never mind the fact we can actually do things in SL...
To be sure, I have no doubt that in time, it may be possible for CCP to totally outdo SL. But now? No, not even kind of close. I am thoroughly underwhelmed by a small room that houses an avatar, a spacecouch, and three monitors.
Oh, and while I too can run CQ smoothly (I'm fortunate to have just built a new machine) I don't think it should require what it does to draw a room and a poorly lit avatar.

Originally by: Ranka Mei Actually, I can agree to most of what you said: they're fair nuances. So, in the interest of this thread -- which I deem to be the need to call CCP on their outrageous MT plans -- I will just leave the 'heated' Incarna discussion (pun intended) for another place.
Fair play and I appreciate the reply. While I've never been too keen about WiS/ambulation/Incarna/CQ/what-have-you, I am not by default against it. I'm a big fan (and I seemed to think I saw you voice support for making it truly optional) of having it be something we can do/not do/kinda do at our discretion. I have it off now after having tested it on SISI and TQ as I don't feel it offers me much. When more comes out, I in fact will give it a look.
I agree the Fearless leak warrants a real reply from CCP. I also think the idea of returning Incarna to being something "forever optional" is important. Hell, those two things get addressed (assuming outrage convinces CCP to make Incarna truly optional and we get the word they super promise not to sell actual gaming advantage through MT) and I'll return to being a happy camper.

^ This. At first I was against making it optional; but I've reconsidered my position, as the guy with the 'zoom-out' idea (somewhere above) makes it so immersion isn't broken for either side of the argument. I find his to be an equitable solution to all.

Originally by: Wakeland What is sad is that CCP will not admit they are wrong! This is seriously like we're getting steam-rolled into their bullsh*t and they are laughing while driving the steamroller. $99 here, $70 there, oh and don't forget your monthly tax of $15, all while we deliver absolute sh*t in return in the form of a broken fu*king "expansion" (Read: Downgrade) and hope to reeling in NEW blood (Read: Money).
CCP won't admit it because they refuse to believe it. Let me be clear - I'm not defending them in the slightest. They really really think they know what's :awesome: and if we can't see it... Well, as someone said, they thing we'll just ***** and moan and then keep paying our subs.
And you know what? Incarna may in fact be :awesome:. It's just not the kind of :awesome: I want to play.

Originally by: Thomas Kugisa just had to laugh when I realized that the Internal Affairs team (which was created due to player protests after t20) is probably in overdrive looking for the "leak" ...
I have been thinking something similar. I've got an idea for them, but nah, I'm loving the leaking.

Originally by: Marcus Vorenius no response from CCP Pann?
Manifest said on twitter yesterday morning that she had a family emergency and had to split soon after beginning this whole thing here.
I'll give her (and for the moment her alone amongst CCP folk) the benefit of the doubt. Well that's not fair of me. There are obviously folks at CCP who aren't happy like we are. Someone is leaking info (and god bless them!).

Originally by: NeoNexus I sure for one can't se the 52 monocles making up for the subscribtions that currently are being canceled.
Oh I'm sure they're into the low to mid 60s now on monocles sold. Totally worth the squandered good will of the folks paying their salaries.

Sure thing. I'm so over-extended on social media right now I think my head may explode. But in this case I'm glad to have helped (it did get reported about 100+ pages ago too, I'm not the only one reporting in).

Originally by: DarkTemplarCrimsonWolf The eve player base isn't the second life one, we'd likely torch CCP and EVE if they go for the premium item with subscriptions model.
You're saying you don't want to pay $195 a month to own a sim... I mean system? Can't say I blame you if you think not...

Originally by: Talamicus I know it has been said before but make sure you DO NOT let this calm down, trust me i bet they are just sitting there chillin waiting for the gale force winds to reduced to a mild western breezer and then hit out with some corporate sh*t
Remember Hilmar said they are not going to knee jerk to the predictable (which is our reaction probably)
STAY THE COURSE HILMAR, Even if there is an massive iceberg in your way!!
Hope you drown in the process
I dunno, we're currently running like 150+ pages a day or so yeah?
But your point is valid. I'm not going to magically calm down. I may fall asleep soon, but I won't be calm.

I've been putting this one out there, makes me chuckle...
