CCP has that much time to get their **** together...
You can ask your bank for a charge back.
Yeah go to your credit card company. I had to do this once when they locked my account and I couldn't get a response from them. Turns out someone had hacked one of my accounts and stolen a couple billion in assets, but CCP wouldn't tell me why my account was locked and kept billing me. Called my bank and disputed the charges and got it refunded. |

Originally by: Quantumality Why doesn't CCP stop dancing around and just do what they already mean to.
Implement a store attached to account management. Allow people you use the credit card they have attached to their accounts to buy skill points, faction goodies, virtual clothing, ISK, standing, any anything else. Get rid of PLEX because that is just an unnecessary middle transaction in the real intent of things - which is a direct line to the wallets of players above and beyond the multiple account subscriptions people already pay for.
By the way, since CCP is going to do all of thise for our convenience anyway, why don't you start selling some convenience items I can buy with my VISA like shutting down the current soverenity in systems, buying a nuke that can wipe out an entire player fleet in one shot, maybe even some special ammo that can penetrate POS shields and destroy the structures directly. Hey, how about something really cool like the ability to make a player not be able to respawn to their clone for half an hour. I mean come on, you want to let me pay for convenience, so let's start talking about stuff worth running up my credit card bill for.
^ Just admit it and continue on with this game as P2W. This half-assed approach is disconcerting, but I think that's what they are aiming for. Bring in a P2W crowd while still milking a few bucks from people who actually loved this game for it's uniqueness.

Not even worthy of the fail whale. This has been by far the worst PR response by a company ever, and this is no exception

Now we see what CCP does. I await the results of the CSM meeting with extreme interest.
After you napalm your customers it's pretty hard to do any worse.

Last devblog proves that they were in fact planning to introduce RMT for non-vanity items in game, or other services. Look how quickly all the rumors about SOE were put down. It was done with remarkable speed and efficiency. Yet they have been skirting a simple yes no question for days now. They were probably not going to introduce this until a later, possibly much later date, but the direction they were going is there. So this post was made as a stall tactic for some of several reasons.
A. They need to rethink their business model forecast, which is not a quick overnight thing, and they want to delay until they've discussed it.
B. It divides the opposition. They're hoping this will calm things down a bit and causes fighting between two camps and not all focused against CCP. This has already happened.
C. They hope that any kind of delay will reduce the anger the customer base is feeling right now. And that much of it will simply blow over in a week.
C. <TinfoilHat>They want to try and milk 1 more months subscription from some people.</tinfoilhat> They know how many actual subscriptions are set to expire in the next week and they want to push them off.

So this all makes sense now... CCP isn't really THAT stupid to want to try this. They're just that ****ed and had to try something. Cause of death isn't terminal stupidity(Okay this is arguable), but actually..... okay stupidity in trying to fund 2 projects by beating it out of your golden goose.

Originally by: Maeve Nightside Real world loans are only part of their prob.
They sold a lot of PLEX to the players. It is like taking out a bond (since plex represents game time. If redeemed it means a drop in subscription income). They have a lot of leveraged debt in game too.
If called in suddenly, it would be a potential hit to their ability to continue operations because their cash-on-hand could dry up.
I don't think they legally have to honor any of it. But it would be pretty disasterous PR to simply delete them all in game or cease honoring them. Not like they're doing much better here, but I guess that's subjective. But, anyone who was evaluating their company's finances would percieve them as a liablity for that exact reason. After viewing the financial ****up that is CCP I've moved to the "wait for the CSM meeting" camp. So far all their response has been total BS and stall tactics, but it's probably just because as a company as a whole, they are against a wall and attempted an insane maneuver to try and save their ass. My accounts are still unsubscribed, but awaiting the answer to the big yellow question. If it's no, I may consider playing again. Frankly, I just don't know if I can ever get enthused again, but I probably won't cancel. If it's yes, I quit full out. So for now I'm going to honor the cease fire.

Edited by: Kilmiester on 01/07/2011 05:40:06 I've been quiet the past couple days... been playing perpetuum and I even reactivated my *gasp* wow account. I have to say I already miss EVE, but I await the results of the great stall and keep alive my fading hopes that it will be positive. [Edit] I fail at drunkin typing Very Predictable Feedback. |
