Incarna is still a massive cluster****, you have not commented on CCPs intention to expand MT in game-breaking ways, and completely miss the reason most of us are upset.
Bravo, 0/10, subscription cancellation sustained and reinforced.
I realize you, specifically, may not be to blame. But you're willing to come out and be the buffer, and that's enough to make you complicit in my book.
Do not be fooled fellows, this non-response is merely the start of the CCP wagon-cricle.

Pretty much this. We need to get CCP to have someone who can actually answer these issues instead of deflect it all. Don't give up your right to have CQ be a "disembark" button on our old hanger view! And don't give up the fight to resist real $$$ for in-game progression!

I just hope you guys get your **** together. I mean we are not cash cows. And we never wanted vanity items. We want ship improvements on the spaceships. How long has it been since you released decent pvp spaceships in bulk. Trinity? Apocrypha. Anything else hasn't been much of use. I mean do you guys play your game? I mean policy is that you all don't interact with us much. But **** policy if you ask me.
Please fix stuff and be more foreward and stop treating us like we are dumb. We play a very complicated game in general and you have more smart people then world of warcraft kids that want instant gratification.

I don't post too frequently but I feel I must add my voice to the crowd.
We need to hear from the higher ups what they have to say on the matter. The only way My three subs will be sticking around is if there are some serious priority changes because of this leak. I don't like my money going to your 'other projects' I don't give two s**ts about. Put my sub fee toward more devs who enjoy the game and less about milking us for MT. Incarna might have been a full release if you had. A Proper one with the vidion you showed us all those years ago. All of your decision the past couple of years has been PRIMARILY about making money and we are getting just sick of it. ==================== ~/~ Sultan of Buruni |

Originally by: Jade Constantine Sure when you have been playing Eve as long as we have you learn to take the rough with the smooth but you do so with the general feeling that CCP developers understand and ôgetö what makes Eve great û and thatÆs the problem now. This internal newsletter (if real) shows that one of the leading developers does not ôget eveö does not care about eve, and simply sees eve as a cash cow to be milked ferociously to fund other projects. This is about keeping the golden goose of eve subscriptions (on a drip feed if necessary) while chasing and grubbing every little loose cent he can from the player base.
Let me give you a couple of examples of how this can and does (and has already) impacted our enjoyment of this game:
1. The Captains Quarters û itÆs not gameplay its a display cabinet for vanity items. And the price of this display cabinet for you and I is that multi-client performance in stations is now terrible û if you have a bad graphic card itÆs a jerk fest û if you have a decent graphics card itÆs heat-fest. I can run 3-4 clients with CQÆs turned on û I can run it smoothly û but do I want to? Hell no because my Gtx 580 sounds like its melting my motherboard now! So I need to turn off the CQÆs on multiple accounts and as a result have more limited functionality on those accounts and an ugly wallpaper. No more station environment, no more clicking on my ship to open cargo hold, no more dragging ship to the hanger to board it. The delivery of the CQ vanity item display case has impacted my gameplay.
CCP could have made it optional and given us the option of keeping the old hanger view and added a ôdisembark shipö option to the UI but ôoh noö to do that would have meant we werenÆt being forced to look the vanity display case that marketing insisted must be front and centre if weÆre to even think about buying these ridiculously overpriced items from the Noble store.
2. If you read the newsletter youÆll see reference to saved fitting slots û and I donÆt know about you Verone but in JF weÆve run out of saved corp ship fittings. We want CCP to up the limit but is that really going to happen while the ôbiz-devsö talk honeyed words about how to squeeze extra income from players for such ôminor upgrades.ö? How long till we pay aurum for extra corp standing slots? For wardec options? For a usable corp management screen?
3. And who develops these vanity items? Yes thats right its Eve artists and developers whose salary we pay with our subscriptions. Given the choice wouldnÆt you rather have engine trails and flashy cyno effect for all players rather than a bunch of overpriced tat in the Aur store for a fleeced few?
Because that is precisely the compromise being made here -> CCP using our subs money to pay for vanity item production they want to sell back to us for greedy prices and it is something you SHOULD get mad about.
So hereÆs the thing.
The time to fight for the game we love is not in six months time when these concepts have bedded down and CCP is feeling bold enough to start selling Noble Faction ammo and +9 implants. The time to fight is now. Because this newsletter embodies everything that many of us feared but didnÆt want to believe CCP were becoming capable of. It is a massive betrayal of the compact we shared as players and developers of this game and indicates that CCP is preparing to leap down a very dark and deep path of self-immolation in the months to come.
I donÆt want to see Eve Online die Verone. That sounds dramatic I know, but gameworlds die when the dreams and visions are extinguished and that can happen through a succession of bad ideas foisted on a community by people who really donÆt have much of a clue in business.

I still believe that one important thing is what they will declare now. They need to comment in some way on this leaked document.
As for the content of PDF itself, dont kid yourself. It was an internal memo. I am sure many of you work in big corporations. You seem to be surprised that they treat customers like milking cows? Dont be. Every single corp does that. Every single corp thinks like that and internally speaks in a same matter. The difference is you dont talk about it out in the public. And that is why this leak is a damn shame and something that will hurt CCP. But again, judge them by what they will do, not how they think about you.
I am not defending nor condemning CCP. They spill PR bull**** just like any other gaming corp out there. I work for a large corp with many customers. There is a huge difference between what we communicate outside to the public and what we talk about in offices. As a matter of fact I'd say we think that half of our customers are idiots. This is normal but you dont speak about it at a press conference. CCP just did that in some way and they now need a serious damage control.
What will ultimately matter is if EVE will be still game people will want to play. And what features will be implemented in it. What CCP CEO thinks about me does not concern me.

Originally by: CCP Pann The newsletter was not fake. I guess this is how it feels when someone reads your diary, something you hadn't intended anyone else to see. Not to deflect the heat but to explain why what I'm about to say, I wasn't involved with writing it. The only reason I mention that is because I am not going to presume to know the minds of the people who did have comments in there. I am not going to throw people I love under the bus or to the lions or whatever. I can't/won't answer questions about what they said or why they said it.
Our newsletters are written as a means to bring about discussion (that sometimes can even become heated debate) among our coworkers. That's really all I can say about it. I am not a game designer. I'm a mouthpiece. I'll admit it. By the time I get involved, the decisions have been made. Not making excuses for myself, just explaining.
Thank you for addressing that. The letter reads like a brainstorming session to me. I know yall got more than enough feedback than you bargained for. I personally would be disappointed if the nex store does give advantages in space. That is all the feedback I have on that. As for Incarna at launch, I did a lot of research prior to launch and the only surprise I had was that the mediocre laptop I have at best, can handle it. You have my patience to see this thru. I am still looking forward to blogs on establishments, dust, and the CSM notes. Hang in there.

I agree with everything that has been said ahead of me so far. And BTW the this feels like SWG is soo very true for me.
One little thing that very minor in comparision is I can not see anything in the station area. It is all too dark. I have turned up my display to its max and I strain to see anything. ANy way to add a Gamma feature so I can turn it up when in station so I can see something.
And I do remember you from the old days.
Please get the game back on track!

I would be lying if I said that whatÆs happening now didnÆt make me sad, but IÆm not here to ask for your sympathy. To be perfectly honest, IÆm here to buy time while we try to sort things out. No, it was not wrong. Better to think, before to act. Always. What got spooky, was seeing blue lines elsewhere and not a heads up of "guys, this hits hard, we're going to have to think this one through".

Can I please count on at least some of you to help bring the pitchforks and torches down a few notches?
Trust and respect. It's a mutual thing. And it has been hurt dramatically, not just recently. Please keep in mind that the EVE customer base is a highly interconnected community. CSM being called terrorists on a workfloor for example, or comments at bars of lolcustomers, we too have seen too much of that. All sides need to do some thinking there. And find each other again.
But I must say, this thing of pitchforks. It should not come as a surprise that there is emotion. For us and you. It's what all of this is based on, really. It's the key to EVE. Seeing such things just gives again the impression that CCP has somehow gotten the conviction that customers just whine and hate everything they do and more of that. Truth be told, it is far more worth investigating where such an affirmation of perception comes from within the company, than it is worth reinventing the wheel in community management.

Dear, please do not take this the wrong way. We know it is never easy for CCP "the company" and CCP "the people" to keep "person" and "position" seperate, emotion being one currency of this dynamic certainly does not make that any easier. Not for CCP, not for customers.
But, you are not the right person for this particular job. I fully understand the position, and the focus, but this is not a messaging job. It is also not a job of gathering feedback. Right here, right now, it is a job of rebuilding belief and trust. And that, is an entirely different part and level of CCP. I really hope you understand this. All of this, is tied directly to strategic choices which are unnecessarily risky, which even for CCP's willingness to wing it (loosely translated from a statement by Mr. Thorsteinsson) is crossing a line of business considerations. We're engaged on that strategic level here, and even though it is CCP's right to set that, it has dependancies in the markets it caters to.
To address that, is a completely different level of CCP.
We do thank you for your time. But this is not the right angle. Far from. |

What happens to Eve after WoD is released, will Eve fund lower than expected take up of WoD?
How many lost account's does it take to hurt CCP financialy and put WoD at risk, perhaps even CCP at risk and have to downsize?

I will say that as an aspiring game developer myself, I'm incredibly distraught at seeing the newsletter having been a real document. I'm, frankly, more than a little disappointed. I had great respect for CCP and the EVE development team, because I felt that they listened to their community, had a respect for their players.
Hearing that some developers, the LEAD GAME DEVELOPER, would rather squeeze us for additional cash than continue to put out compelling gameplay, for the sake of money rather than the sake of the playerbase... It really pains me to say that CCP doesn't sound any different from any other video game developer.
Once you guys get a lead developer with the design philosophies of John Turbefield, my respect will be regained. Until that point, I'm not very hopeful with where EVE Online is going.

Hello CCP, Here is me being proactive and productive I understand that you need time to gather yourselves from this very large problem. Something you need to understand is this fact your eve fan base is very very loyal and they feel like they are being turned into nothing but a giant wallet by you. Do with this post what you want but take it from someone with multiple successful businesses the key to losing everything you have gained is to do something to lose your customers they are what drives your entire company. Here in eve these customers are your subscribers.
Now onto the post I first want to thank you for coming out and at least saying something so we know your not all just ignoring us. The only problem with the post is this when you listed the concerns you knew of which were according to you: one the chief complaint is regarding the high cost of goods in the Nobel Market. Second, many people are unhappy about the CaptainÆs Quarters. Third, there are some performance issues with Incarna.
You left out what seems to be the most important factor of all now you may have done this on accident but with all that has happened it looks like you did it on purpose the thing that is bothering the player base the most is this: The new possible MT idea (meaning micro transactions) making everything in game cost RL money. This is probably the worst thing you could ever do. Now im not going to sit here and just say that Im going to tell you why this is so. 1) The system you have makes you stand out from all your competition(Which in the business world is major). 2) you will push away at least half of your fan base in one swoop. If you make ships, weapons, ammo and whatever that is better then what you can get without money and the only way they can get these super items it is to buy them well Im sorry but a lot of us either don't have that kind of money or even if we do would not spend it on that we work way to hard to do that. (therefore you'd lose a ton of players since there would be no more point to continue playing eve).
Please really think about what you're doing and do not ruin one of the best games in modern history to try and make short term goals. A company will always fail that way.
Now if you insist on doing something of this sort how about this idea: Make it for only vanity items such as the gold scorpion, clothes and so on and drop the prices down so it is a more feasible situation for the average eve player. If you do that I think you will see players staying and actually buying these items. But whatever you do I urge you do not make it for super items or ships or anything like that or I fear not only eve will fall but so will CCP as a company which is the exact thing you are trying to stop by doing this (for lack of a better word silly venture you call MT).
I am a devoted diehard and loyal eve player to a fault and spend more time on eve then in my own companies (sad but true) and even I can not stomach this possible switch in mindset please don't mess up this great and wonderful thing we all call Eve Online. I look forward to hearing more soon but already I have heard of hundreds if not thousands of pilots quitting including entire corps and maybe even alliances. Please fix this situation and fast.

Hey, I'll be tossing out some answers here as best I can as well, so forgive me for a second as there's a LOT of posts to digest in this particular thread and I'd like to get to as many as possible. I have been, along with MANY others at CCP, reading forums, Twitter, Facebook, blogposts, petitions, etc for some time now, so it's not like much of it will be a surprise, but still each person here deserves eyes on their post so here we go.
I also must emphasize that, as Pann said, we'll have a more "substantive" answer for you tomorrow "from CCP" on many of the things you guys are talking/questioning/legitimately complaining about... so I wanted to make that clear.
There have been a lot of meetings and, as I am sure you can all undertand, these aren't quite the easiest things to unravel, reravel etc.

Ok, well blowing past the 'let's see if this goes away error'...
I care about the issues bellow enough that I have cancelled my Sub... the quality of your response over the next couple of months will determine if I ever re-sub.
The issues for me Start with your lack of communication, So much of this could have been averted if you talked to us about what you were thinking about doing and why before you actually went and did it.
Also you don't respond to those posting feedback about features on the test server, which significantly reduces the will to post feedback rather than just use SiSi to muck around in, and reduces the quality and relevance of testing, and thus the quality of subsequent patches.
I posted this and then created this thread well before Incarna hit TQ, and answering and dealing with the issues raised in the questions in them would have solved a lot of the issues with CQ. Although nothing to help with the MT issues. I did get a limited dev response... from a customer relations guy (CCP manifest)... who couldn't answer my questions, or deal with my feedback... Not his fault but the info and responses we needed didn't come...
Also Salpun created this thread, which did a good job of doing what you should have been doing, in directing feedback in the run up to the patch... He deserves a lot of love and Kudos for doing that for you.
Also Akita summed up most of the CQ issues in this thread (we have slight differences in priorities but the same general gist)
So the particulars...
You broke your promise to make Incarna optional... CQ, and the rest of incarna should be accessed through a button on the station panel in the old hanger view. The reasons I have iterated time and time again. It breaks immersion to disembark from your pod on every undock. It limits the design of Incarna to force Incarna to have to have the same functionality and UI as the hanger. It reduces performance to have two UI's It means any patch that breaks the in space UI breaks Incarna, and any patch that breaks Incarna breaks docking. it forces people who 'like their capsular characters' don't want to leave their pods and just want to blow up space ships into incarna... which causes rage and quitting, for no good reason (no good reason for un-optional CQ not the quitting).
The fix: Return the hanger (I don't mind a graphics upgrade to the old hanger as long as its low performance impact, but the functionality must be there, and iterations on that functionality done separately from Incarna/CQ).
Give us separate graphics settings for Incarna and the hanger/space
Retain the option to have a still image in the hanger and not have to load anything at all (ideally a still image of the ship you docked/logged on in, in the hanger)
Having separated CQ from the in space UI, make a decent UI specially for Incarna that works in the environment, so it doesn't pop-up immersion breaking, view blocking, windows.
deal with these basically:
AS for the other issue...
I am against MT period...
I say why here...
If you don't remove MT from the game... Well I have already un-subbed over these issues. And I won't re-sub till they're fixed.
Basically You can have MT or you can have my custom... you can't have both...
I know this is probably a pain to read, with all the links, but as I have been talking about this with no response for over a month I have written quite a lot, way more than will fit in this post. --------
By Grfmsv÷tn, Eyjafjallaj÷kull, Vatnaj÷kull, and Hekla itself... THIS is my sig.
