Doesn't CCP realize that real life analogies aren't helpful here? Yes, we know that guys in Armani suits get better jobs and attract women, people in expensive sports cars go faster, and people with expensive golf clubs hit the ball farther. But this is a game where people get away from real life, and people need to feel like they have a chance to compete.

He could just google a CEO draft, I guess. ;) All the CEO letters in my company read the same as Hilmar's in tone and style.
Too many cheap manager seminars and loss of contact with the customer basis do that to you.

The blog won't say what we want it to. I'm not expecting it to. I don't honestly know what it could say to make any of us feel better.
There isn't much you can -say- to an angry mob that will be heard over the shouts and cries. Ironic as it may be, CCP needs to take a hint from Hilmar's email and act, not speak.
Anyways, this blog is probably not a surrender as you want it to be. It's just an iteration of his first blog, talking about the rest of the points we demanded a response on. That's what he said he was going to do, and that's probably what he's doing.

Boardroom meeting
"Funding our additional product offerings on the back of our flagship success is becoming problematic. We make more profit on Plex sales than we do on our discounted subscriptions...
We have another problem.... fewer and fewer new players are joining Eve and staying because they believe they have no chance against established veterans.. How can we churn the base to provide opportunities for these newer players ? "
Wait, we've got it ! - no need to even bother ! We can just offer new players the ability to become as powerful by paying us as much money as the veteran did to get where they are !!
Brilliant, AND it will solve our original problem as well.. as once the players hear of this they'll revolt ! Those with the most to lose will become our unpaid workers in this effort !!
But how to accomplish maximal impact ?
Seeding the soil, chumming the waters.. hmmm
I know what.. Lets just say we will react to customer demand.. We KNOW they've always demanded skill point shortcuts.. Always, been the biggest complaint of new players..
Then we can honestly claim that we are just being a responsive company, giving the players what they most want !
Brilliant !
edited for typo
I'm afraid that's exactly what has happened |

There isn't much i can add that hasn't already been said, but i can't pass up the opportunity to post in what will become a classical thread on these forums; or possibly it's obituary.
I want CCP to know that i, too, am a very disappointed customer that not only feel neglected, but also disrespected by the new direction in the company.
Content: Symptoms and Illness
Like other people, i don't care too much about the details of this expansion (the prices in the NEX-store, the load in the CQ graphics engine or whatever), what concerns me is the more lasting troubles, the multi-year long neglect and the fact that we as players can expect, or begin to suspect, that this nonsense will only continue. Enough is enough!
The fact is that we have not seen a successful core-content expansion since Apocrypha (which in itself was a band-aid patch, to temporarily solve issues with character evolution and the empire-to-sovereignity experience; which's features have not been properly iterated upon since, despite promise after promise). The following larger content-expansion, Dominion, completely failed in every aspect of it's outspoken ambition (end of afk-empires, stale conservative landscapes and feudalism; create corporation-level content and diversify nullsec). Since then, all we have seen are small fixes and an nigh complete focus upon the new-player experience, eyecandy, development-consuming scripted (non-sandbox) content and other games.
We don't mind a better (new-) future-player experience, we don't mind grand visionary ideals or a fearless attitude to new products - but they can not come at the complete expense of the present.
You made your run with Incarna. Enough, refocus.
Meanwhile the political climate and emergent content in EVE-online has continued it's decomposition with stale twosided coalition wars; and a screaming lack of content for alot of players - no matter how good you are at creating emergent gameplay on your own.
Fear: Direction and Reaction
The fear among all these players crying out in agony, is that this will only continue; that you CCP don't care about the present, or us, the community. Every indication in your presentation, internal climate and actions speak of that. We wouldn't care if some Dust GDC referred to us as "freeloading spectators" unless we also didn't feel that comment was representative of everything else you have done that past few years. Now it feels representative, and that's why people sloganize and errupt around that comment (the same as every other symptom you belive is what incur our wrath; while it's so obvious that the only root of our anger is your overall direction and neglect).
It's not just an individual fearless mishap of taste or tact, or misunderstanding of casual internal team-building - it's reflective of the overall neglect and the degeneration of your attitude towards us the past 2-3 years. We can feel it, that's why it hurts. We used to be your players, your community and your loyal, appreciated customers. CCP used to have a reputation and goodwill among it's playerbase, where people would climb the palisades to defend you against outside criticism, and cite EVE as the "best game ever". The same outspoken ambition you had in your continued development. These days we feel you look upon us as only consumers, revenue and basis for corporate expansion. The words may be ill chosen, or never intended for publication - but we also see it in your abstinent actions. The palisades have been turning on you for two years.
You listen more to people in the industry (other companies like Sony, NVIDIA or shortsighted investors and other financial people) than you do us, you wish to impress them more than you do us.
We don't like that perspective or spirit; it has ruined the goodwill you once had and our gameplay with it.
Change, now.

358 pages with, what, 30 ish comments per page by players, and how many comments per GM/DEV/anyone from CCP? Obviously there doesn't appear to be even the slightest interest whatsoever in attempting to put out the fires or qualm the masses with prefabricated half-truths and vague apathetic promises.
I wish I could say I was surprised. I wish I could say I was disappointed. But like so many other people, it'll be plenty easy to find other things to do with my time and money.
